    Gorgeous set up.
    I still have my 27 yr old 3.5 Maggies.
    I can't get enough of them .
    Would love to hear your system.

    Seem kinda wide, tweeters 8 feet apart? Wall treatment on the immediate side walls is a must, even a 4 x 6 rug on each sidewall is huge. Use good (Cardas) 6 inch banana jumpers from x-over box to speaker and replace the cheap 'staple' tweeter attenuator with a short Cardas jumper you will hear the diff. Brystons must be direct to wall socket, no idea why folks use surge protectors with them when Bryston says that hampers current flow just like with Krell. Lastly, raise off floor using 2 to 3 inch thick 11 inch square pavers from Lowes /Home Depot (four per speaker) with rubber adhesive grip pads under Maggie feet, 4 each leg, evenly spaced for supreme isolation. Cheap mods but they do make a difference. I can't see how to remove the socks on mine but I've heard that helps too. VERY cool setup.

    I agree, the equipment goes on the cabinets on the side wall, stage right & some simple wall dampening behind the Maggies. Maybe some foam corner traps? Keep up your quest U R getting closer to live performance.... When the hi hat sounds like its in your room you have made it !!!

    I really like their sound but I have used Klipsch for over 30 years , guess they sound different and could never take the abuse that the Klipsch handle with ease. Plus Klipsch are easily repaired. But I do enjoy listening to these. 👍🇺🇸

    I don't know who ever said Magnepans have a so called spacious sound.....although they are not as directional as say a Sanders electrostatic loudspeaker,
    they are still somewhat directional.....in nature as all loudspeakers are......It's not a question of spaciousness when you are in the sweet spot,
    it's a question of focus.....when the tweeters are laser focused right at your listening position, right at your earlobes in fact, there is an enhanced sense
    of focus on the performance.......there is an enhanced sense of instruments in space, something the Magnepans do so well.....
    There is no loudspeaker below 25,000.00 that really beats the 3.7s but they require care in setup to get the most out of them......

      +stewart0722 - You have them crammed on the short wall (WHY does everyone do this?) playing in a reflective room with bare walls. You get out what you put in. That said, much of what you said is true however the problems can be fixed thru modding, such as those offered by Magnestand

      +56squadron
      What problems can be fixed through modding??? I don't think I mentioned any problems......I have Magnestands and they are not a DAMN bit different than stock stands......just a gimmick.......Magnepan has made their speakers more stable with their new bases, but nothing wrong with the old ones.......and all of them sound identical IMO.....As to your other comments, it sounds like a bunch of non sensical, incoherent bullcrap.....My room has lots of stuff on the walls and the long end of my room sounds way better than sticking my system in front of my fireplace and having my speakers block my back french doors......

    • @56squadron
      @56squadron 8 років тому

      You didn't mention problems? Your post started out as a complaint against people who said maggies have spacious sound! And what can be fixed thru modding? Wow... don't you read online forums? You also don't know what I am talking about, because your speakers have NOT been modded by magnestand. You own magnepans, magnestand is a mod offered for those speakers which you clearly know nothing about. But you're the one who knows everything? Whatever....

    Super nice setup here. I am seriously considering a pair of 1.7i. 3.7 are a bit out of my price range.

    • @stewart0722
      @stewart0722  7 років тому +1

      you should buy a used pair of 3.7s, or even 3.6s before going 1.7i's.......the differential in low end is to me a matter of absolute unacceptability when it comes to the 1.7s.......

    I'm likely weird, but Magnepan's always seem really truncated at the top and bottom. The highs don't sing and there's really no bass. They certainly need a sub or 2. That's no big deal most speakers do, especially my favorites, Martin Logan. But it seems to me that all of the sound is in a very limited bandwidth in the middle.

    • @stewart0722
      @stewart0722  2 роки тому

      I always find it curious that people seem to want to say that Maggies are so limited to the middle band....a midrange speaker primarily.....On the high end, they go well above most dynamic speakers, for instance the Vandersteen 2CE, best selling full range speaker in history, goes to 29KHZ while the Magnepan 3.7 goes to 40KHZ, and on the low end the Vandersteen goes down to 29 Hz and the Magnepan 35Hz......do dynamic speakers typically go lower than Maggies? sure.....they also deliver that bass in a different manner....some people find punchy, kick you in the gut bass pleasurable, some people prefer the realistic presentation in the low end Maggies provide with a holographic presentation of a kick drum's reflection off the back wall.....other people want that kick drum to hit them right in the face, and the Maggies won't without a sub.....but no sub will really keep up with them....so people will add a bass panel from magnepan which is OK, but not great......but in my experience sitting in front of Maggies properly placed, I'm not wanting for Bass very often......

      @@stewart0722 One thing we don't know about is room effect. It sounds to me like Magnepans are really driven to the mid. But then I'm hearing them on UA-cam. I would love to hear Maggies in person. I'm not really familiar with planars. My personal speakers are Martin Logan and Definitive Technology, so I do like different types of speakers. I wouldn't argue about the Magnepans because I don't disagree. I would love to hear them in person.

    sounds like my Yamaha ns1000m's exceptional mids an highs but lacking in the bass. add a couple of jlauido dual 13.5 subs or jbl high end sub with 2500 watts per channel. im rebuilding my Yamaha ns1000m with dual 12;s per side but using the ns500m subs instead because they have better bass than the ns1000m subs an reworking the xover to tri-amp. my amps are the balanced audio technology rex mono blocks for mids n highs an a bat 600se for bottom end. dac is antelope rubidium dac that will play dsd 22.000mhz. my source is my computer or my Logitech transporter with a word clock input port for the rubidium clock at 10mhz. thinking about buying a ps audio direct stream dac but havnt yet. that's my 2 cents thank you for the audition of the mags.

    I like the sound of your system. You obviously have put some thought into it. Note that for a measly $100 you can buy a decent portable stereo digital recorder that will produce files that sound 10x better than your phone. That's my recommendation to all audiophiles uploading system videos.

    WHERE"S THE TUBES? One day you might audition some tube gear. You will never go solid state again period. Especially with Maggies which allow any and all to flow through. BTW, you room it too small for those. Try the baby MMG's. You will be more pleased with them due to your small room.

    • @stewart0722
      @stewart0722  8 років тому +10

      +jim davidson
      Jim, you are smoking something you shouldn't be smoking......
      My room is 28ft long x 16 feet wide and it is 10 feet tall. If you think I need baby MMGs because of the
      size of this room, you need psychiatric care :)
      As to the question of tubes, since you're not familiar with any of my equipment or my room.......
      The Convergent Audio Technologies Renaissance preamplifier is 100% tube based and is widely considered by many reviewers to be the best you can do as far as a tube preamp, it has been in production for over 30 years.......
      As to amplfiers:
      Magnepans are 4 ohm speakers and require tremendous current to operate at their best in a SMALL 28x16 room LOL
      As you know (or probably don't know based on your comments) Tube amplifiers do not double their wattage into 4 ohms and as a result, there is no way I would partner these with a typical 100W or 200W tube amplifier in my room.......the Bryston 7bsst2 puts out at least 10 times as much juice as I would get with the typical tube amplifier out there without getting into incredible amounts of money, maintenance and heat and I still wouldn't have as much power.....!!
      Bryston amplfiers have an incredible synergy with Magnepan besting any tube amp I've ever heard with them (I've heard over 2 dozen). If you travel to Magnepan's factory to audition a pair, these are the amps you'll hear. If you go to an audio show where Magnepan is showing the 3.7s, this is the amp you'll hear them with.......Magnepan could have any amp they want......they're right up the road from Audio Research........and they prefer Bryston....
      My system has incredible tube magic, combined with low end authority.....I have the best of both worlds and I have it in a huge space.......so the 3.7s will be staying......but thanks for the offer of the lowly MMGs.....LOL
