Sometimes, where you start doesn't matter as much as what you take from it. I was a person enticed by music and traced a certain song back to it's origins, and found myself in the realm of anime. You should take this chance to open up and watch Clannad, and the After Story sequel (assuming that you havent heard of this song in particular). It's a powerful story, and worth the time that it takes to watch it.
