    Whats your approach to gear and lenses - Less is more, or more means more creative?

      I've been shooting for nearly 20 years, and I only ever shot one body at a time and don't go through lenses very often... always a medium and telephoto zooms, then a fast 50 and maybe another prime. When I recently switched to Fuji from Nikon DSLR I got much more interested in lenses again because of the vast amount of options, with third party and vintage glass. I kind of have GAS for sub $200 lenses now haha. I just picked up a 10mm f2 for landscape/astro/interiors, but I think I'm actually done for now. Which means I have five lenses total all for pretty different purposes, and the most I've ever had at once. I have a 16-80 f4 and 80-200 f4 for landscape and everything else, a 27mm pancake for everyday and travel, a 56 f1.8 for portraits and details, and then the 10 f2.

      recently been into compact quality so Sony A7cii with contemporary sigmas 35/65/90. I also have a Sony a6700 with 15mm 1.4 so trying to figure out how to make the most of both sensors with sharing of lenses

      @@ofthenearfuture Nice - and yeah, its easy to get GAS when you switch systems, especially for the sub 200 USD 3rd party option out there, haha. The pancake is nice though... Even if im not keeping it! Made more sense to keep the 23mm f1.4

      @@pcphotography9108 The contemporary sigmas are AWESOME! Ive got a connection in Sigma and theyve lent me some of their glass in the past. If I didnt own the fujis, id probably go with sigma. The 18-50 f2.8 is also a great. Super light and compact!

    Kudos to you for making this decision. Personally, it's less about the number of lenses I have, but total cost. If I want another lens, I'll sell some gear to make that happen.
    My 'keepers':
    - like yourself I have to have a telephoto and in my case its a manual Samyang 135 mm f/2.0 ED UMC - an incredible lens by any measure and possibly one of the sharpest on the planet for aps-c but also such incredible bokeh (lenstip gave it an Editor's choice award)
    - KamLan 50mm F1.1 II - another manual lens, but it is a workhouse especially for night shooting. KamLan always have great colours, and the manual focus throw on this lens allows you to work quick and precise.
    - Tamron 18-300 - if there was a best-value lens, to me this is it. Fast focus, great image stabilization, light and compact with incredible focal range, macro ability. Of course, it isn't the sharpest, but you take that into account, and you make it work.
    I probably could just keep those three and be good. I no longer have the XF35 F2, but that was another workhorse, and great street lens. In its place I have a Brightin Star 35mm F0.95 on its way, which I'm pretty sure I will love.
    The rest:
    - Fujifilm Xf 16 1.4 - I've taken this just as my sole lens on trips and thats when it shines, when you give it your undivided attention. Haven't been using it as much lately though, as the 18mm focal length on the Tamron often suffices.
    - Fujifilm XF 56 1.2 - recently purchased, and to my dismay, it is not functional. It's a dying lens that is still sharp in the centre, but some damage has occurred, and the edges are quite blurry. I may be stuck with this lens, or sell for parts.
    - Samyang 12mm F2 - I fine lens for sure, optically great, but I haven't really put it to use.

      I hear ya! never tried the manual Samyang - but the internet says they have great and sharp lenses. This idea of downsizing seems better by the day to be honest. And im considering swapping the 23mm for an 18mm. As you say, bring it on a trip, give it undivided attention and it will shine. Like with less lenses. They will shine more. 18 can be tricky though when youre used to 23 and 33 as the widest lens options! Anyways, cheers for sharing and for popping by the channel! Hope to see you around here

    Thanks for the video Daniel. I'm going through the same process. Many of my lens purchases have been impulse buys and/or what might I do with a new lens. I'm down to the 18 mm f1.4 and the 33mm f 1.4 and I'm thinking of adding the 90mm f2 on my XT5. I have the 27mm f2.8 and can't decide weather to keep or not. It's nice as a single lens setup.

    • @DanielBryn
      @DanielBryn  Місяць тому +1

      Oh ive been there, and to be honest, the 90mm was an impulse buy. Lucky in the sense it was a good fit. But ya... Its a great way to downsize and be mindful about gear obsessions. Agree on the 27mm. That being said, I dont miss it! Got the 23 and 33, they are just stellar pieces, and I prefer walking around with the best quality gear since I go out a lot

  • @charliejg
    @charliejg Місяць тому +1

    I absolutely LOVE shooting with the XF90mm. It may be my favorite lens. Right now it's the longest reach lens I have from Fuji. I do have a Canon FD 135mm, but that's my fun manual focus lens that I got for $35. The XF50-140 has been my "save your pennies" lens for a while to use for sports and wildlife. Plus, it can be used for other things as well given the low end of the focal range. And, it's a really sharp lens as well. That 150-600 isn't anywhere close to my budget. But, for now, I have the XF18-55, the XF56(OG), and the XF90. I mostly do hiking, cars and general photo walk stuff. Now and then I do some portrait type stuff and some sports. Not sure yet what I will get with some longer reach. I shoot with an X-T3 that I bought barely used back in January 2021. It's a great camera that does the job for me. Thanks for the lens overview, have a great weekend.

      @DanielBryn  28 днів тому +1

      You and me both! The 90mm is superb, and I use it every time I go out. Such a great lens, and with 40MP on the XT5 I can also crop quite a bit without loosing quality. Thats why I opted for the 90 instead of the 50-140 (which is alos great, but too big for me)

    I'd be interested to see what you think of the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 as I think there could be an agreement for possibly replace the xf 23 and 33mm f1.4 lenses.
    Thats if you like the focal length and if the xf ones have a specific characteristic that you're after/like in them.

    Could you give me some advise ? I am a street photographer. I only have 3 lens and 1 camera. My camera is Z6ii and
    Z26mm F2.8, Z50mm F1.8 and Z24-70F4. I always used Z26mm and Z50mm. Z24-70 F4 should be kept?
    which another I can buy instead of lens. I also think 4 lens for my camera system.

      Cool - id rather ask the question how often you use your different lenses. I didnt use my 16-55 f2.8 for over six months, and didnt miss it either = easy choice! And im also a prime lens type of guy, always using 1 or 2 primes when im out. A wide and a tele (90mm). Figuring out what you like the most is the key to be honest. Did that help at all?
