Hello John, it's not as the Dehler 30 one design holds a World Sailing Certificate as an Offshore Regatta Yacht. Therefore a battery drive is not possible ;-)

What about the anchor ?
Dear Jezus, as the Dehler 30 one design is a performance yacht which is designed to take part in international regattas and has to comply with weight standards, the anchor is not integrated in the hull.

no keel cutter? That keel is a kelp collector. So no good here in southern california.

@@dimitriskrin I guess also a defibrillator is required too? coast guard also requires a throw able flotation device doesn't matter if only one person is onboard. Maybe it is really just to allow cheaters since there is no way to prove it wasn't used. Lots of ways to make it look like it wasn't.
@@seandepagnier you're just looking to pick an argument. Obviously it doesn't come with a automatic defibrillator or a fully stocked cat 1 first aid kit. THOSE ARENT STRUCTUAL ITEMS. The manufacturer is responsible for the hull and rigging to make sure it meets various safety standards. It needs to meet ISO 12217-2 Design Category A with a STIX minimum of at least 35. How does accessories fit in to this?
Name 1 electric engine and battery setup that
A) fits be boat
B) isn't too heavy
C) doesn't impact the cost to the purchaser
D) has enough range to power reserves to propel the boat a close enough to 6 knots for a minimum of 5 hours into a headwind and significant sea state?
I dare say a lot of the other boats that a 30ft light weight fliers no not meet cat 1 structural requirements or aren't anything but a stripped out racier with a glorified carbon bucket to shit in.
@@dimitriskrin show me the engine setup that can power for 40,000 miles without refueling? Nuclear/solar power can do this, so it should be mandatory for all boats to have small thermonuclear reactors or PV similar to what the mars landers use. Why not require all boats to be able to sail several times the wind speed? would do a lot more to evade storms than most boats out there that have engines.
Or maybe there is no reason for arbitrary nonsense requirements, and rich people should be the last ones in the world with the right to use engines.
You should never power against wind and sea. I don't even know why people think this is acceptable it is a wrong way of thinking and also cheating. There is also no reason to ever do this and never was. Show me a diesel setup that pays the true cost of emissions. It would cost about 1 milllion to build and power a 20hp engine using only renewable in every step of the process.
I never had an engine and have sailed all over the world to 30 countries and more and more found the engines are simply not needed anywhere. I had to tack a few times more than people who cheat but that is about it. It is fools making idiotic requirements that stand against competence that is a real shame. The engine enables bad behavior, wasteful decisions and ultimately lazy people while screwing everyone over at the same time.
