@@kristilynn5655 Hey, it took me a minute to understand this too. look at it this way.. the difference between a $1 bag of chips and a .10cent soda is .90 cents. I took the class in 2005 and completed the course/test. I did not take the state exam. I was told I do not have to take the classroom course again. I just need to pass the state exam. What is your thought on this? Do you think I could pass the state exam or should I re take the course? I really do not want to sit through the course again.
I like your tips to pass the real state exams but am having a lot of problems to understand the math problems am good adding and subtracting multiplication and dividing but is got me very confused with the problems
If you read the question and are confused about what to do, that is not an issue with the math - it's an issue with reading. I'm not saying that to be insulting, so please don't take it that way. I just find that a lot of people say they have a problem with the math, but what they really have a problem with is figuring out what the question is asking (which is a reading comprehension issue). I'm not sure if that's your issue or not because I am basing this off of a one-sentence comment. But I think it's important to figure out what your issue is before you try to solve it. Does that help?
I was stumped on the chip/soda question. You kept emphasizing check your work and use a calculator but the biggest misconception on this question for me and I'm guessing for others is we assumed the chips cost $1.00 bc it states the chips cost $1 "more" than the soda. So we really don't know the exact amount of the chips until we figure out the cost of the soda. Is my thinking correct...or is my explanation more confusing. I think I understand it now after reading other comments you left. I originally was 100% certain that the soda cost .10 but I get it that $1 more than .10 would make the chips cost 1.10 and 1.10 (chips)+.10(soda)= 1.20 so that's too much therefore it must be the soda is .5 and $1 more than .5 = chips costing $1.05 thus add $1.05+.5 totals $1.10. I think I got it!!! You are awesome!!!
You are exactly correct. If you use intuition, you will pick ten cents. Once you check your work, you will realize that it's wrong, and figure out the correct answer.
I know I’m smart but the whole chips and soda question really confused me because it says that together it cost $1.10 together and the explanation still didn’t make sense but I’m hoping this is not on the test tomorrow… lol

That said, I really appreciate how straight-forward and logical you are with your tips and examples. It almost makes me feel stupid for overthinking some of this stuff. Much love from the panhandle 🤙🏼
Hello Im taking my test in just two weeks and I love your videos so far but where can I find all the formulas I need for the test? or is that in a future video I haven't seen yet?
You said add, subtract, multiply, divide.. if I use your approach, “read last sentence and that’s the question”, how much did the soda cost? $1.10 is total cost for soda and chips. My question is.. Is $1.00 plus .10 = 1.10? Is $1.05 plus .05 =$1.10? My answer is you can obviously eliminate choices C and D immediately. How can both be right ? Better yet how is either answer wrong?
Let's say the soda costs ten cents, what is a dollar more than that? With my calculator, a dollar more than 0.10 is 1.10. (You have to add a full dollar, not ninety cents.) 1.10 +0.10 = 1.20 (too much) That's the point of the question - if you do it quickly without really paying attention, you will only add ninety cents rather than a dollar. If this still doesn't make sense, call me and I'll walk you through it over the phone.
Your videos are amazing and super helpful. I will never forget 43,560. Thank you thank you thank you. I would love to have a one on one conversation with you once I pass my state test

@@HosannaPrzYHWH It's definitely one that makes you think twice (which is the point of using it as an example). I'm glad it makes sense. And thank you for your kind comments.
Check your work (which is the point of the problem) and your answer will be incorrect. Let's say the chips cost 0.10 as you suggest. The soda costs a dollar more than that. That means the soda costs 1.10. A dollar more than 0.10 is 1.10, not 1.00. One dollar is only ninety cents more than ten cents. That means our total is 1.20 - too much. One dollar more than five cents is 1.05. That's the point - that you have to check your work, or you might get a 74 on the state exam. If this still doesn't make sense, call me and I'll walk you through it over the phone.
Dear God I'm so stupid when it comes to math. I've failed twice so far and I know it's because of debits and credits and prorations. I just don't get it and when I'm sitting in front of the computer my brain goes into a fog. How does everyone cope with that brain fog?
My first step is to not tell myself I am stupid when it comes to math. If you tell yourself you are stupid, you will do what is necessary to convince yourself that that is true. Also, ask yourself if the problem is math or reading. If you can't add the numbers, it's math. If you read the question and can't figure out what is going on, that has nothing to do with math - even the question has numbers in it. I'm not sure if that applies to you, but it applies to a lot of people, so I wanted to share it. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

@@Nunya45036 100 pennies make a $1.00 so if you add 100 more pennies to the 5 pennies that the soda cost then you'll have a total of 105 pennies or $1.05 (which gives you the cost of the chips)
@@kristilynn5655 Hey, it took me a minute to understand this too. look at it this way.. the difference between a $1 bag of chips and a .10cent soda is .90 cents. (so at this point, the bag of chips is .90 cents more than the soda.) .10 more cents would make the bag of chips cost $1.10 which totals $1.20 when you add the .10 soda. On the other hand, the difference between a $1.05 bag of chips and a .05 soda is exactly 100 cents ($1.00)... hope this helps

Does the testing center provide you with scratch paper to use to work out the math problems?
They give you a small white erase board at the test center. You must use the online white board if you take the online proctored exam.

How did you do?
Mrs Karen I wasn't ready so I rescheduled it for August the 10th I didn't know you was going to text me back LOL but thank you for asking
THANK YOU!!!!
You are welcome. Good luck on the exam.
Very useful tips. Thank you.
I took the class in 2005 and completed the course/test. I did not take the state exam. I was told I do not have to take the classroom course again. I just need to pass the state exam. What is your thought on this? Do you think I could pass the state exam or should I re take the course? I really do not want to sit through the course again.
Several laws have changed since then. I'd take the class again.
Would be nice if you add videos of amortization problem and Homestead exemptions.
I know I’m smart but the whole chips and soda question really confused me because it says that together it cost $1.10 together and the explanation still didn’t make sense but I’m hoping this is not
on the test tomorrow… lol
What bran calculator do you suggest

Please don't take this the wrong way, because it IS a compliment, but you are so delightfully dry and nonchalant its almost comical. That said, I really appreciate how straight-forward and logical you are with your tips and examples. It almost makes me feel stupid for overthinking some of this stuff. Much love from the panhandle 🤙🏼
I accept your compliment in the spirit it was intended. :)

Thank you so very much. You are awesome

Hello Im taking my test in just two weeks and I love your videos so far but where can I find all the formulas I need for the test? or is that in a future video I haven't seen yet?
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I do not have a math formula sheet. You can make one though as you watch each of the videos.
(You have to add a full dollar, not ninety cents.)
1.10 +0.10 = 1.20 (too much)
That's the point of the question - if you do it quickly without really paying attention, you will only add ninety cents rather than a dollar.
If this still doesn't make sense, call me and I'll walk you through it over the phone.
The question says the chips are $1 more, if the soda was .10, the chips would only be .90 more.
thanks you really know ur stuff!!

Can you use a calculator at the testing site.?
Yes. You can use a basic calculator. You cannot use a cell phone calculator, alpha calculator, calculator that makes noise, calculator that has paper (even if there is no paper in it). But yes, you can use a basic calculator.

Hello Karen. I took my State Exam on Friday, I failed by 2 points. So discouraging. LOL but I have rescheduled to take it again in June. Any advice? I know one of the things I did wrong that I told myself not to do beforehand, but did it anyways was during review went back and changed about 5/6 of my answers. So any advice would be helpful. Need to pass this time! Thank you in advance.
Look at your fail sheet and it tells you where you missed the most questions. Focus your efforts on those chapters.

@@KarenClimer I still can not see how it’s not .10... It’s say the chips and Soda TOGETHER make 1.10. So that would mean that .10 + 1.00 = 1.10 ..., So the Only answer can be .10 not .05 .. I can not see the math on how it’s .05
The chips were Never 1.10 , so I do not know how you are adding 1.10 to .10 to come up with 1.20 for a wrong answer lol I’m so confused on this equation

Is that an affirmation?
I still do not understand how the soda costs $0.05 if the chips cost $1.00. How does that add up to $1.10? Seriously
The chips don't cost $1. They cost a dollar more than the soda, which would make the chips $1.05.
If it still doesn't make sense, call me and I'll explain it over the phone.
Thank you! After I commented I many of the other comments, where you explained it and then my brain accepted the information. Thanks again, you are very good at this calling!!! 😊@@KarenClimer
@@HosannaPrzYHWH It's definitely one that makes you think twice (which is the point of using it as an example). I'm glad it makes sense. And thank you for your kind comments.
Wait if the chips cost $1 more than the soda then the soda has to be .10 😩😂 it said $1 more not $1.05 more... 🤔🤔🤔
