I was in the former USSR in 1990 on a Contiki Tour of all things! The only “easy” way to get into Mother Russia back then. I bought 6 CCCP watches covering navy, airforce & army. I gifted 4 of these to mate & kept 2! Some 30 years later they’ll still bloody accurate & a good talking point! I have got 1 Vostok amphibian but will buy this cushion type YESTERDAY!!!🤣 I think the attraction is that plain Cold War look to them, but at the same time stylish🤔👍🏼😎
Great video! I have that same black one, but with an orange Seiko bezel insert, coin edge bezel, clear case back and black Italian rubber strap. If you want a quick way to change the date, go from 1am back to 8pm, back to 1am and repeat. And it is windable, but a bit fiddley. Welcome to the club. 👍🏻

Great first look! I love Vostoks & have a couple of Amphibias & Komandirskies. I've had mine over four years with no issues. Ironically the cheaper Komandirskies were more accurate +7 on the wrist, but I managed to regulate both Amphibias to +3 and +5 , also on the wrist. I like yours on the shark mesh, but also nice is a coordinated color silicone strap!

I find the bracelet is pretty good. It's russian made so it "goes" with the watch. I don't think that the vostok straps or bracelet needs the bashing they get. I like the 'B' on my band.

The ‘R’ on the bracelet is a ‘B’ for Boctoc and the spring bars are crazy strong - well they were on mine 😁
I just ordered a diver dude from Moscow yesterday and as a newly qualified Padi diver this is my first dive watch, the next will be an Islander! I ordered mine on a rubber strap for the reasons shown in this video!
I don't plan on receiving any positive attention from this watch until I bump into another watch person so I will be leaving the mods unless I change my mind later on.

710 ( actually 71 ) case type 634 is the dial. I just ordered my first vostok... a 710432 ( blue dial ). Cannot wait. Also ordered a komandirskie , just to have one as well . I want to have both. I have a blue bezel from Meranom on the way to put on the Amphibia .Not sure what to do with the strap. I have loads of watches on Natos' cause they're fun to swap, but I would like to have a few metal ones as well. I might try a brown leather style with the blue bezel ... will prob look nice.

The bezel is bi-directional because it is cheap and works. Unless you actually dive, this design is better for timing parking meters, etc. You can tighten or loosen the friction by bending the wire holding the bezel down.
I love Vostok’s. I’ve had mine for a few months now and it’s great. I made a couple of videos on it too!
This is my everyday watch. Ministry case.
I keep mine on its original bracelet with the bezel it came with.
A tool watch and a dress watch for me.

I bought a brand new Amphibia and it came with a pin of Lenin and the CCCP. I put a Citizen mesh steel band on it. I love this watch.
Actually the Vostok Springbars are supposed to be quite sturdy. Somehow compareable to Seiko. Richard Perrett talked about them in his vid about the Komandirskie K-65.

Finally got my 710380 (orange scuba dude on black background) few days ago, modded it right away with One Second Closer Atlas bezel (their quality is superb!) and planet ocean insert. Really like how it came out, although I had a bit of trouble with fitting the bezel, i think the spring was not in the correct place and i buggered the bezel a tiny bit with a prying tool. Can't really see it, and it's not like I scratched a rolex anyway, but my ocd is kicking in hard :) hopefully i'll get over it soon! Glass caseback and signed steel crown from meranom should arrive soon, sadly they were out of steel movement holders (dunno why I need it, but i do :D). I love this watch already, and planning to get another one and do a totally different style mode :) so much fun for so little cash!
I love my Amphibian but if I could do it again I would choose the no-date model. Owning this watch really makes me appreciate the date complication of my other watches.

I have 3 Vostoks and one of them has a Ministry case like yours, but mine is a Gagarin. D'you know what that is? It's the edition that commemorates - or maybe comradomates - Yuri Gagarin's world's-first Earth orbit in his Ruskie capsule, the Vostok-1. Yes! Same name as the watches! I had to have my Gagarin in part because it shows the Vostok-1 floating above the map of Canada and about to pass over my home province of Nova Scotia. I was 13 at the time, ahem.
I think I like your bezel better. Mine's not curved down but dead flat, and while yours is chromed, mine's mostly black. What's worse though is the lume on the hands is piss-poor and they're so skinny it's practically impossible to see them against the dial anytime after sundown. But god damn it, I love it anyway and haven't worn my other 2 Vostoks since the Gagarin arrived more than 2 weeks ago. Or my Seiko solar panda Chrono, or my Orient Sport flieger, or any of my other J-watches. I'm hooked. Da, okay comradomate, cheers from Montreal!
In 710634, 71 is the case number, this case is known as the "Ministry" case. 0 means the case is Stainless Steel, and 634 is the dial model number.
The spring bars are pretty good.

Hi Jody, I just started getting into watches a few months ago and your channel has been my #1 watch channel on UA-cam. I find your videos to be wonderful and your honest reviews have really helped me decide which watches I want to buy, and which ones to skip. That brings be to the Vostok. I've never heard of them until watching your channel, and because of your videos I ordered a Vostok 710059 Amphibian from Russia which I am very excited and eagerly waiting for. I'm not a rich man by and means so the affordable gems which you review and have introduced me to are just what I've been looking for. I've watched a couple of your videos on mods for these watches. I'd like to change the bezel and get a ceramic insert, but I'm a little unsure of what you are doing with these. You mentioned eBay, but are you simply buying a Seiko SKX bezel and insert? Is the SKX a direct fit replacement/upgrade for the Vostok? Or is there something else that I need to purchase to make it work? I know you are flooded with comments and questions, but I really hope you have time to reply to this and point me in the right direction.

Hate to be "that" guy, but your bracelet is actually what's known as Milanese mesh. Shark mesh is much more chunky (but still looks fantastic on a Vostok).

As I´m going to be on vacation in Russia in a few weeks and want to buy an Amphibian there to have a memory and primarily to avoid custom taxes, I´d like to know from the russian part of the community in which local stores I can find Amphibians for good prices.
If you can´t name any, even just which kind of store I should look out for would help me a lot.
It would also be really nice, if you could tell how many rubles amphibians usually are (on the vostok page they are about 3800)

The crown has rusted and the screw too. After a year. I don`t think is stainless steel.

Change out the bezel and it's a gem.

I rather enjoy my Amphibia. I have the red and white dial version. It makes for great conversation. It made me vote for Trump too

The worst watch I ever had, mechanical problems to no end, then it stopped forever. My watchmaker told me that it was not worth even to disassemble it, he told me to throw it away. After about eight months from the purchase I threw it, a tip: do not buy it !!!!!!!!!!
As soon as I opened my amphibia, I chucked it in the bin. Absolutely dreadful abomination that has been overhyped to hell. How anyone can like these piles of shite, is beyond me.

+Anonymous - Exactly! Also, Vostok hand winds and sort of hacks with back pressure on crown, and is a more standard 40 mm case size. The Seiko SNK809 is a nice little watch and the only one even close in price, but has 30m WR, doesn't hack or hand wind, and is smallish at 37 mm.

You are right. Better buy a Seiko 5. My Scubadude lasted one year. My Seiko 5 SNK is running fine after 5 years. It looks great after modding but it is shite inside.
