    Just this week I was chugging along in the inside lane and another car I guess got about 25% past me in the middle lane and then pulled straight over! I just caught it out the corner of my eye and no time to check the mirror to see what was behind I went for the hard-shoulder at 70mph and then braked. As it happened there was someone behind me who could then take action too. If this has been a smart motorway there would've been no where for me to go and quite the different outcome! Good use case for this gadget.
    This is worth looking at for sure. Oh how I wish when they built these vans the included a conduit on both sided front to back... Thanks for sharing David.

      It’s exactly those situations which it can make the difference- as you say it’s catching things out of the corner of your eye and sometimes on the van it’s a bit further back than a car and there’s a risk you might not see and the consequences would be terrible.
      It would be great if there was a nice sized conduit wouldn’t it - I tried to get it behind in the cupboard but after spending 20 mins trying I gave up and will pop some conduit on to cover the wires.
      Thanks very much for the comment - really appreciated and quick thinking there!
      All the best, David 👍

    Interesting, didn't even know you could get aftermarket kits like this. Look forward to seeing part 2.

      Thanks Tim, yes I did a bit of research and a lot of them were the ultrasonic ones but all the pro ones seemed to be radar and I found these. Will include road test and demo in Part 2, just have those final 3 wires to connect and tidy up of course. Thanks again, All the best, David 👍

    Reminds me of fitting a car stereo, aerial and speakers in my Mk2 Ford Escort in 1985. Oh how the time fly's when your having fun ;) Looking forward to when you install an automated parking system :)

      Funny you should mention that it felt like fitting a stereo in the 80s or 90s 😀
      Fantastic - it does indeed - automated parking system - not looking forward to testing that - the car has it and the couple of times I’ve used it I’ve been weary 😂
      All the best, David 👍

    Interesting. Didn’t know you could get kits like this. Looks a bit complicated to fit. Looking forward to seeing part 2 when you review it. 😊👍

      It’s a bit like fitting parking sensors, main pain was running the wires front to back which took the time - actually scrub that it was procrastinating on where to fit it and run the wires which took the time 😀 that reminds me I still have the last 3 wires to connect up.
      All the best, David 👍

    I have a blind spot system on my car and like you find it invaluable especially when driving in busy unfamiliar territory. Also I was not aware that aftermarket kits were available so will be interested to see it in action and to find out what your overall assessment of the kit is.

      Thanks David. I found I missed it in the van when in busy unfamiliar territory particularly as you say. Thanks for your interest and look forward to sharing in a few weeks once it’s proven out or to call out any anomalies. It looks encouraging and am pressing on finishing off the connection to the indicators and reverse light at the weekend and tidy up. Look forward to sharing the outcome. All the best, David 👍

    Certainly "food for thought " David! We have them fitted in our Peugeot 3008 and personally found them very useful. Hopefully the March delivery will go ahead and enable us to check out the van. I suspect that we will have something similar fitted. Sid and Nicola.

      Morning Sid & Nicola - I found having them on the car you missed it in the van and took a bit of research but spotted these ones - couple of bits to finish off but will report back on how well they perform - always worth considering isn’t it - have a great weekend and exciting times with the van delivery hopefully not being too far off now - all the best, David 👍

      Thanks Karlos - I think with having it on my current car and previous car you realise how helpful it can be and I missed having it on the van - will update with a road test and need to get those last 3 wires connected so the buzzer goes off and also tidy up - thanks for the comment - most appreciated - all the best, David 👍

    Good job your payload is quite hefty, all these extras must be adding up.

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  Рік тому

      Fortunately this one isn’t too heavy but you are right every bit adds up - some things are substitutional to a degree such as the battery which isn’t the full 36kg as the original was 26kg and I removed surplus housing etc which offset the breakers and the housing I made so net approx 10kg plus around 5kg for the inverter gain for that as an example. There’s around 5kg for the lights, coffee machine mechanism, etc. and then there’s the towbar which adds some more and insulation additions etc,
      you do need to keep a check, as it happens I’m going to pop to the Weighbridge in the coming weeks to get an updated weight check as I wouldn’t want the van to be overweight (and not expecting it to be of course as maths doesn’t stack up if it was)
      All the best, David 👍

    Not something I’ve ever worried about to be honest, as you know I’m a huge fan of older vehicles and I don’t like modern gizmos, anything I can turn off in Heather’s Kia goes off when I drive it 😂 the only thing I do like on Pearl is the reverse sensors but that’s just because I backed into that Corsa once 🤣 good job you’re high on payload tho…. That said as we say at work “if the rear springs are still smiling it’s underweight” 😂

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  Рік тому +1

      Really interesting point Rick, I actually had wondered what you would think given the older vehicles (none of this fancy tech in those days but far fewer cars on the road too of course). Weight wise it nearly blew away when i was fitting it as there’s not much weight in this specifically - that said I am going to get the van weighed so i know whats what as may need to start leaving Rachel at home if I fit much more stuff of any weight lol 😂
      I remember my dad going on about getting an automatic car, I resisted for years and either the best thing I ever did or worst depending on your angle as would hate to go back now to a manual (hence getting an auto van) - I converted to auto in 2016. Also having driver assistance things you get used to them and I missed it on the van hence going for it (and 2 situations where people had done daft things pushed it along)
      Completely get it though as it would be a massive contrast, at some point I would love to drive an old car again, a Nova or original Astra (once driven, forever smitten) and see what the experience is like now compared to what it was. In those days I could park up to a wall, front or back and you couldn’t get you little finger between the bumper and the wall without touching it. No cameras, no sensors, and I could go all over with GPS Navigation and very rarely get lost - how times have changed 🙁 All safety conscious now, no handbrake turns or anything like that.
      Thanks for the comment, appreciated as always - have a lovely weekend, all the best, David 👍

      Hi Sid it’s Rachel here. David is still working on the follow up video as he likes to check everything is fully working and tested for a long time until he is happy to recommend it.
      The system is performing well so it should be coming your way a big or little screen near you shortly x
