Pique's english is absolutely superb. Even though he went to Manchester, for someone who's been staying at his home country for a long time now it's sometimes difficult to maintain the same level of fluency!
I’d imagine a lot of the Barcelona players don’t speak Spanish, so they’ll all communicate in english. Nevertheless, his english is superb
@@jakecook4816 Nah I think they definitely communicate in Spanish. Case in point, most of the content from the players on the Barca yt channel is in Spanish.
@@jakecook4816 they mostly speak Spanish and French
pique came from upper class family so good chance hes always been proficient in english
Don't forget that Pique would be travelling around a lot and interacting with different people being that he is together with superstar Shakira and also, English is the world's most universal language so it isn't as difficult to maintain good English when you're a interacting with as many people as Pique is.
The Overlap is turning into a GOAT series
Please leave that stupid phrase to the yanks.

Pique is something else! While still being a player, he has already managed to change the format of Spanish supercup (which has been there for decades), managed to convince the ITF to change the format of Davis Cup (the WC of tennis).. And he's already preparing to become the president of Barca by starting at grassroots level with FC Andorra! He's going to be a very powerful person in the world of football in a few years..
And he's not about the money either. He was one of the first at Barca to accept a pay cut under Xavi to help the clubs financial crisis unlike Dembele.
@@whodouthinkuare his pay was just deferred, he’ll be getting that money eventually
Oh right
He's also massively corrupted
He also told the club to sell messi
He’s so down to earth. You can’t help but like people when they’re like this
to top it off, after training he gets to go home and rail Shakira......heaven
My guy gonna be a powerful man in coming years
Totally agree. And I think that's about interviewing skills. On screen, Gary is very understated as an interviewer - but it's a rare interviewer skill to be able to put interviewees at ease to the extent that they are so open and can just say what they think - and he does it in every interview. Brilliant stuff tbh, and the exact opposite of the dull, media-trained, answers given to match-day interviewers.
he seems very money orientated but ties to hide it though
@@jtaylor8606 it's not just Gary's ability, Gerard has a great personality and intelligence
Class act Pique. One of the great defenders of his generation. How good are these overlap interviews... would love to see a Beckham or Rooney one next. Or outside of football a Ricky Hatton or Roger Federer maybe
beckham and wazza is a shout, i’d love to see a van der saar or vidic interview too
Oi mate either one of those would be brilliant stuff 👍🏽
He's never going to get Federer in a month of Sundays, he's got more chance of getting the Pope.
Rooney’s interview’s gonna be 90 percent ermm

It’s funny how Gary laughs when Gerard mentions places like Sale and Bolton.
Gary’s probably thinking: ‘World Cup winner, 20+ major trophies, successful businessman, going out with Shakira. How the f*ck does he remember a place like Sale?’
successful people rarely forget where they come from and what got them there
Ayton Bridge that's why he said 20+ 🙄
@@madlad4206 Not true at all. Crazy how you can manipulate your own reality like that.
I always forget that Pique was a youth at Man United. What a career he’s had. Legend of the game
He won the CL with them! Didn't play a whole lot but did score a couple goals on the way there.
@@nelson_alexander i cant play because was rio vidc

The way Pique speaks and the way he's already preparing for a post-playing career, the man is priming himself to become the President of Barcelona. It's bound to happen. All the best to him.
Great Interview as always. 😊
Piques won it all and been through it all. Truly a living legend. Those who watched him play will never forget!
Bro he may sound like a nice guy on tv but he’s a criminal in terms of making illegal deals with Arab countries and attempting catalunya’s independence through the financing of Vladimir putin himself. So please don’t deceive yourself through what is shown here
@@quickfilmmakingtips2870 you been watching too many conspiracy shows mate. Stick to football
True 💯
I know Gary is a big Manu fan but a candid interview like this with none other than Arsene Wenger would be great! Ex Manu player interviewing a man who managed his rival team for years.
Him being a united fan would have nothing to do it. Pretty sure clean Gary would love to talk to arsene
He interviewed Stevie G.. don't think Arsene is gonna be a problem
Love Pique. Those Roy Keane stories are brilliant.
Brilliant! You can just tell what an incredibly intelligent person Pique is and also love how much he stands by his own opinion, not caring what others are expecting of him. No wonder the chap has been such a success both on and off the pitch.
Such a hypocritical chap, eh?
Bro he may sound like a nice guy on tv but he’s a criminal in terms of making illegal deals with Arab countries and attempting catalunya’s independence through the financing of Vladimir putin himself. So please don’t deceive yourself through what is shown here
Cheated on Shakira
Damn, his English is near perfect. He's also obviously an intelligent and therefor interesting man to listen to. He's won it all. Literally, all and is so vocal and open when answering Gary's questions about his way of doing things. Really interesting to see Gnev take the Overlap abroad. Hopefully, we'll get more of these foreign legends to speak their mind on the beautiful game. For me as a Dutchie, Pique was so much more interesting than, let's say, a Declan Rice who's still at the beginning and is not as vocal cause he's still got a career ahead of him. That's not a critique on Rice's part, I just think older players who've won it all can say more and simply know more due to all of their experiences. Of course, Pique is an interesting guest for a British channel because of his connection to Utd and thus the Overlap came to him, however it's still a nice change of pace to hear someone like him, who played for arguably the best club team ever (Pep's Barca) and was a key player when being there, share his thoughts. Loved this. Keep 'em coming!
PS If I may pose a suggestion: CR7 :)
Gary Neville was fantastic here, and hearing Pique talking in depth about these topics made me admire and respect him even more.
Congrats!
Leaving United was his best decision. Went from 3rd/4th choice CB to an important part of Barcelonas defense along with a champions league on the bounce.
Yep... After leaving Manchester
2009 wins the treble!
2010 wins the world cup!
2011 wins Shakira!!
Yeah he left not cos he wasn't good enough but Ferdinand and Vidic were out of world at the time so it was very difficult to break them up. At least it was a good decision for Pique as he won everything with Barca.
@@manuelrodriguez2637
2015 won a treble also

Kinda weird because I saw absolutely nothing special in Pique when he was at United. Maybe I was too focused on Ferdinand and Vidic as they were unstoppable at the time. Maybe being back in Spain helped him to become more comfortable.

The best episode ive seen yet. Gerard Pique what a great personality, he has had such a fantastic career. Definitely go down as one of the top 5 Spanish center backs in history for sure. Sergio Ramos, Carles Puyol, Fernando Hierro, Carlos Marchena are considered to be the greatest of Spanish football history but he is definitely up there with the greats.
He was the first of the Captains to put himself forwad for the 50% pay cut. Then Busquets Alba and Sergi Roberto followed right after him.
Whereas the debt he is totally right Gary Neville for La Liga and Seria A. The Super League needs another outcome, I think what the best solution to save La Liga and Seria A to compete with the Premier League financially which is so far ahead no other league in the world can catch it, literally have become the NBA NHL MLB NFL of the sport. I believe La Liga and Seria A can continue but they could make a higher tier Med Combined league so promotion of La Liga and Seria A would get you into this joint league. Top 10 or 9 or 11 from La Liga and Seria A become one League. The tv rights will explode if you have teams like Barca Real Madrid Atletico Sevilla Valencia Juve Inter AC Milan Napoli Roma Lazio ect. The competition would be crazy and this would attract big private investors like the PL to come reinstate clubs such as Valencia or Inter Milan ect. It would definitely compete with the Premier League if this materialized and on all levels, football quality, fan base, the history of the teams involved. Champions League winners like Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus.
Try top 5 CBs in the world
@@nomape3586 Marchena was a great center back he made 2 CL Finals with Valencia won La Liga twice with Valencia and he won EURO 2008. Nadal and Sanchis were great but mostly carried by their super star 11. When Marchena left Valencia. Valencia stopped being competitive in La Liga and qualifying for the CL. His tackle rate is one of the highest in Liga history and he could pass the ball out better than most defenders in that decade. He is definitely the most under rated. Ive seen Sanchis and Nadal play they were good but Marchena held his own even better. Migueli, Andoni Goikoetxea and Camcho were better center backs but i was speaking more in terms of modern football so lets say from the millenium and Champions League reform of 1992 for example.
That would mess up the football hierarchy in both countries. If you put the top 10 or 11 teams of both leagues into a single competition, what would happen to the rest of the teams that didn't get picked? Would they go down the football ladder? It doesn't really make much sense. Also, would you also put the top 10 or 11 teams from the bottom leagues into 1 league, how would promotion work in this scenario? Imo, there are way too many loopholes in this new system you proposed. Sure, the commercial and monetary benefits would be amazing, but if this were to actually happen, I don't think it would actually succeed in practice.
@@jericho3294 then suggest another way La Liga and Seria A can compete again financially with the PL there is no other outcome. Netherlands and Belgian are going to do a joint league. And there is talks of a joint scandinavian League Norway Sweden Danish league and also an Alps league with Switzerland and Austria. They are only strengthening their economic and quality. So if they can do it. I believe Spain and Italy can in a similar fashion.
Best sporting interviews out, brilliant from Neville. He makes people feel at ease
His mates. Yep difficult task

One of the best footballing interviews I’ve ever listened to. Really honest and in depth. Solid work from Gary with his part in the interview as well, I really enjoy these. I’d love to see more foreign players but I’m sure they don’t all speak English as well as Pique. Buffon, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Totti, Casillas, Robben just to name a few

Thank you Gary, for not just a great interview, but giving someone that shows decent against media an opportunity to voice his opinion
i believe hes the most succesful footballer in history. the number of titles he's won, had privilege of being managed by SAF and Pep, played with 2 greatest footballers in history and ofc the fact he'd be greeted by SHAKIRA at home! GOD LOVES GERARD PIQUE!

So you're saying your imaginary man in the sky has favourites now?
And he's got the looks as well. 😅😅
Let’s not forget about his friend Dani Alvez… most coveted footballer of all time.
Either him or Ramos
Pique doesn’t get the credit he deserves for pioneering the “ball playing” centre back in modern football
because its actually guardiolas idea?
Because he didn't.....Rio Ferdinand was hailed for pioneering that in 2001 and I'm assuming the same was said about Nesta and Maldini 10 years before that
You guys are too young xD Franz Beckenbauer did that in the '70s and in the spanish league, when Cruyff was at Barça as a manager, Alexanco used to do that and then, the best one in this regard was Ronald Koeman.

Listening to Pique talk about when he first went to Barcelona, and saying ‘they were not doing well’ might make some people understand how good of a job Pep Guardiola did.
He didn’t just inherit a team which was winning everything - they’d just lost all their ‘best players’ and not won anything 2 years prior.

I agree he did a great job at Barcelona but Manchester City he's bought everything so I'm sorry i just don't give that much credit for that I hate the way football as become now with money I hate clubs like city psg Chelsea etc
