Wow that's rare! Most American descendants of enslaved peoples came from West Africa due to the practices by the European slavers. It would be interesting to do a further genealogical study to determine just why your ancestry came back on the east African side.
Point of correction Balanta people are not from Sudan,Ethiopia and Egypt. The Balanta people are from only three countries Gambia,Senegal and Guinea Bissau. The name or word Balanta originated from the Mandingo people meaning “Resist”.When the Europeans came to Gambia a group of people seek refuge with the Mandingo and asked for protection from Mandingo for Europeans to not take them away. The Mandingo people told them we will help you but make sure you resist the Europeans while we fought them together, that’s where the name Balanta came from meaning Resist.Whoopy Goldberg is Balanta too.

Nurotikk She said the DNA is not kept ,only the written record and the results. She clearly said they have no plans to sell it. It was an absurd question and she was probably caught off guard.
I noticed that too, her demeanor changed. That being said, if you've ever had a doctors appointment (bloodwork etc) , if there's some govt conspiracy regarding collecting DNA information, then they've already got it. Heck, they could just get it from you at birth, since most of us are born in hospitals, and undergo thorough checkups before being sent home.

@Child Of The Sun I thought it was the opposite simply because the Y chromosome for maleness has the tendency to be diluted/contaminated based on the history of slave owners. @Swaii Maestro You are talking about your tribe right? I am talking about the whole of Africa, hope you know when the Dutch present day Afrikaans arrived modern day South Africa and Namibia they imported slaves, your ethnic group is not the whole of Southern Africa

To be A'f'rican American is to be part West African, part British, part Central African, and 2 percent of your sub saharan ancestry is from the Southeast A'f'rican region, specifically you have some ancestry from Mozambique and Madagascar. This is true for all A'f'rican American people. I TOTALLY agree w/ you and I was going to post the EXACT same thing! She never said how they discard the DNA samples so...I still do NOT trust them.
I noticed that too, her demeanor changed. That being said, if you've ever had a doctors appointment (bloodwork etc) , if there's some govt conspiracy regarding collecting DNA information, then they've already got it. Bamileke people are from the West region of Cameroon (Cameroon has 10 regions, 8 of which are french speaking and 2 are english speaking. Along with Canada, Cameroon is one of the 2 bilingual countries i the world that uses English and French as their official language). The Bamilekes are part of the semi-bantu (grassfield) and bantu ethnic people of Africa who migrated from central Africa throughout the west, east, central and southern Africa.
The Bamileke people are known for their business prowess, they're very industrial when it comes to business, education, agriculture etc. Today, they're part of the french speaking section of Cameroon and the richest Cameroonian is from the Bamileke tribe. The Bamileke tribe is broken down into many villages like the bafang, bagangté, mbouda, dschang, bafoussam, baham, bandjoun etc. with each village having a varying form of the bamileke language. Also have very beautiful, color and conspicuous traditional clothes, jewelry, art, beautiful cuisine too.
The Hausa people of Cameroon are predominantly found in the 3 northern regions of Cameroon (all french speaking). They are known for their beautiful dark complexion, tall heights, nomadic cattle rearing, beautiful women and culture. Most of them are conservative muslims. They're part of the Sahel ethnic group of Africa who migrated from the north of africa down south, east and west. Have so many languages like Fulani, Tuareg, Kanuri, Gur, Shuwa Arab, hausa.
The Ewondos are from the southern and centre regions of Cameroon (all french speaking). They're known for being the government administrators in the country. They're of the bantu ethnic group of Africa. Ewondo is a Bantu language. It is a dialect of the Beti language (Yaunde-Fang), and is intelligible with Bulu, Eton, and Fang. The president/dictator of Cameroon is from the this group. The cuisine is phenomenal and exquisite. The traditional clothes, jewelry and arts are very colorful.
There are tons of tons things to learn about Cameroon and your ethnic group. It really is AFRICA IN MINIATURE. Cameroon is where all the different parts of the continent meets, we have beautiful landscape, animals, food, music, art, languages, people. Come visit.
@@spannito1893 yess sir I couldn't agree any less .well explained from the bottom to the surface . Although it might be a beautiful country the government is fucking up big time and corruption has been taken to another high level
This was actually inspiring and so dope.
Fascinating. I found the Drs comments at the end very powerful, how great that people who's heritage was hidden from them can now have some information about their Ancestors.
Love this episode! That look they gave each other was dope asf 💪🏽✊🏽
“GURUUUUUUUUU!!!” 🤣🤣🤣
We love you, Laura!
Wow! My maiden name is Darden. My grandfather owned a printing company
the owners of Red Lobster are Darden's. Can I get a cheese biscuit?
Girl why tf would you say your real name...maiden name and all
Love Me I’ve been researching my family genealogy for years. I just got really excited when I heard them talk about the Darden surname
Africans are proud of you guys. My Dad is from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria.
We love you all no matter whether you identify with Africa or not. Africa is a friendly continent. We don’t reject strangers.
Visit when you want. Just link up with someone who knows the area (you can reach out to me, got a law in Nigeria so nothing to fear), be nice and humble. Take care of yourselves. ✌️
I want ALL PEOPLE to take this test!
You know what, this video has made me extremely grateful. 24:12 really blew my mind when i actually deeped it.
I am 1st generation British born Ghanaian on my mums side so i had the pleasure of learning our culture. I can not imagine what some African-Americans must feel like to not even have had that opportunity to live a life engrossed in any culture other than American. By that i mean for example, i was brought up within both the culture of the country i was born in (the UK) as well as the culture of my mums family (Ghana). To not even have the option of being anything other than American without first having to do one of these DNA tests is something i never even thought of til now. I also never really understood why black people in the UK call ourselves black British but many black Americans call themselves African-Americans. But i get it now. It makes much better sense to me.
(I hope this doesn’t come across as offensive as it is not meant to be at all).
I am not offended by your comment at all. I do want you to consider something, though. My family has been in America for over 300 years now. While I know I have African ancestry, if my family has been successful here, why would I base my identity on something that hasn't impacted me? I'm not a recent immigrant, my family helped build America.
Intellectualrigor you make an excellent point and i completely understand where you are coming from. I hope you don’t mind me asking, as I’m just curious but, do you ever feel you’d like to know what was beyond those 300yrs? Or even what was within those 300yrs (if you aren’t currently aware)? Not necessarily to find more of your identity per se, but just to know. Or do you feel that it would make absolutely no difference whether or not you know that info?
@@raiethefantibae, I have a fully formed identity and have a multicultural background at this point. It would have no impact on how I see myself or what I would do. It would just be a footnote.
Intellectualrigor oh ok well thats great to know☺️ I’m happy you and probably many other Americans have been blessed enough to have such a solid identity and I hope its something that is continuously passed down through to the future generations of your family. I wish you all a happy successful healthy future🙏🏾
Isn’t it ironic how everyone wanted to be “Black”
I peeped that too
Because they are all vultures...
Helps ratings on the show
That's so they can justify benefitting from our culture. Ebro still a lame and Rosenberg has a face I'd wanna punch.
@@user-tu3yv2qn4q they all talk a lot of bullshit
This was awesome!! I learned so much and really love your radio show. I will listen more. LOVE, PEACE 2 You all.
They make me wanna do it but I don’t trust the government lol
You better not... talk to your GRANDMOTHER OR HER BROTHER'S AND SISTERS
It's too late , If you get your picture taken at the dmv, guess who it is for besides yourself.
The government don't give one damn. In fact, they hope we all do and then leave. It's possible they promote the whole idea on the hopes we WILL leave when you consider all the murders.
But she doesn't work for the govt though, it's a private entity. Besides, she just said they destroy what you would consider the most valuable data, the actual DNA sample.
Don't be scared.😀
@Child Of The Sun I thought it was the opposite simply because the Y chromosome for maleness has the tendency to be diluted/contaminated based on the history of slave owners. This particular DNA analysis was focused on the X chromosome from their mothers, which would have remained intact due to a lower chance of chromosomal hybridization. Basically the mother carries most of the hard data, undiluted and easily traceable. I stand corrected, but am pretty sure that's how it works.
Everybody wants to be black! Good... get on the front line! We could use some relief!
🤣😂🤣😂..4Real...somehow i don't think they're strong enough for that role
I don't want to be black... But I get your point.
@@goosenuggets9693 Ok...then it do not apply to you.
Cee Bee Yeah... Because skin color is the only factor which determines how much struggle an individual has faced.
@@goosenuggets9693 You'd think that, wouldn't you? But history shows how much struggle a skin color can handle. Though it is undeserving, we were built to handle this, where others would crumble. Lol
That answer about selling genetic information was a bit sus...
Yes ...She literally said we keeping our options open concerning selling out.
Go ask you barber shop do they stop strangers from coming in to collect hair samples if your are worried about dna.
The dubiousness of wha the genetic industry may offer or push because of capitalism. I thank Dr. Paige and African Ancestry for their work but who knows what the future may hold.
@@nkwakutoure I'm much less worried about an insurance company hiring someone to follow me and collect my hair off the ground, than them buying a genetic directory with my name as an entry, address and a bunch of personal information.
And individuals can still sell it to those companies if they want
Going home to tell moms they came from middle east and mom says, "I meant to tell you that a long time ago."
