  • Boston Whaler's goal with the 350 Realm was to combine the best of an express cruising boat with that of a center console whose purpose-built profile could be participating in chasing big fish or providing endless hours of family fun and adventure while out on the water.

🚤 Life is Better on a Boat! ⛵️
    HOSTS
Capt. Shelley Morton - Test Captain*
Capt. Shelley Morton holds a USCG 100-Ton License and has packed a lot of boating into her young life. Shelley's love of the ocean began as a child and has resulted in many years of diving and boating both on the East and West coasts of the US and throughout the Caribbean. She lived aboard a 40’ sailing catamaran for three years, cruising around Southern Florida and the Bahamas. She holds a Florida Yacht Broker License and is active inspecting boats in Florida for clients, helping them take delivery both in the US and in Europe. When not testing and inspecting boats for BoatTEST, she can be found haunting boatyards looking for her next liveaboard vessel.
Capt. Shelley is passionate about living the boating lifestyle and has made a career out of it. In addition to being a USCG Licensed Captain, she holds a Florida Yacht Broker License as well. When not testing and inspecting boats for BoatTEST, she can be found haunting boatyards looking for her next liveaboard vessel, which she says will most likely be a 55’ powerboat.
Capt. Trip Smith - Test Captain
Capt. Trip Smith holds a USCG 100-Ton license and has 22 years of experience navigating various types of boats, such as center consoles, runabouts, wake boats, and cruisers. He now owns a 22’ C-Dory. At 36 years old, he is living the dream of escaping the typical 9 to 5 job and has become a popular boat adventure video creator with over 75,000 UA-cam subscribers. Capt. Trip Smith's expertise is evident in his 434 videos, where he shares his experiences spearfishing, collecting scallops, cooking fresh grouper on his boat’s grill, and planning his next adventure. Capt. Trip has an impressive background as a firefighter, outboard engine mechanic, boat rigger, fiberglass repair and restoration expert, and kayak safety teacher.

Nice video! I just traded mine after two years of use. It doesn't do anything well. Cruising - seats are goofy and tight. Fishing - you are better off with a center console. Entertaining - the seats are very close to each other and you end up tripping over each other. Overnighting - don't even think about it.
Look at your 90% use case and either go with an Outrage, Conquest or Vantage.

Interesting and useful take. As a 320 Vantage owner, the logical step up is a 350 Realm, for you to flat out say don’t, significant perspective. Considering how many are in the market one wouldn’t think your real-world experience is the case but I’m following with you on what you’re saying for all counts. Thanks

I feel what you're saying Snookman. Every boat/feature is a trade-off and people use their boats differently. Myself and how I'd like to use a boat personally, I'm a Conquest fan from the Whaler lineup.... Can't speak on the fishing aspect, but I didn't find the seating an issue although we never had more than 4 people aboard at once. For overnighting, I'd be pretty content solo or with one other.

It sounds to us as if you were looking for a different kind of boat than the one you bought -- that's your fault, not the boat's. The Realm series was designed for people who want to do a little bit of everything now and then, but not too much of any one activity. They have other boats designed for people wanting to do a lot of one thing. Every boat is a compromise, it's just a matter of where you are willing to accept them.

I don't recall any. I didn't run the 350 much that day but did run the 380 and had no issues with visibility.
