I Have Failed is in the key of A-Minor and, so it plays like D minor if we were in E standard.
The riffs make heavy use of the A Phrygian Mode {R, b2, b3, p4, p5, b6, b7} as well as an added b5 from the blues scale in the second riff.

I heard that before Odd Fellows Rest that Kirk boosted his Randall with A Boss SD-1. Sammy was the one who introduced him to the Metal Zone as a boost.
That could be true! Sammy definitely introduced him to the Metalzone.
I heard and for sure watched Kirk playing these riffs lots of times, nearly know how he plays it.

Jimmy Bower from EHG still uses the same setup as his old pal Kirk used prior to Odd fellows rest, which was a Boss SD1 as a treble booster with a bit of gain for feedback.

I think crowbar uses used much hotter pick ups JB or EMG stuff, but the PAF guys in that SG still caught the vibe regardless. That's cool to hear .

Curiouse do you have bought same settings as kirk. Like treble 4 ,mid 3 and bass 8? I seen kirk use new rg a couple times. Always wondered if he used mid scoop and bass boost on the new rg
Yes, but I have the presence dialed back for the direct recording here. Kirk runs his presence at max.

its crazy how fuzzy this metalzone into a solidstate amp is. and here i am with an Orange dark terror, with a blackarts toneworks pharaoh fuzz, trying to get a fuzz like this
Kirk started using Orange crush 120 heads awhile back, did he go back to using Randall SS amps?
He used them for a brief time live but has never stopped using the Randall’s. He no longer uses the Orange.
@@DoesItDoom Oh ok, I've always loved his tone and I knew he used both amps but wasn't sure what he uses today. Plus I believe he's back in DOWN.

Is it hard to get the SG set up for low tuning with heavy strings? I have an SG Special’07
Not particularly. You might need to have the nut slots filed wider to accommodate the thicker gauges, but the rest of the setup process is essentially the same.

Hello doom guitar players i have a question...do you guys have problems staying in tune when you down tune a SG guitar? I heard the short scale length is the main factor, and even if you buy very thick strings it sometimes doesnt help....
It’s really tough, especially if you have an Epiphone SG. Wish I had a solution, too.
I have no problems with my Epi SG and Explorer, the grover tuners really help it. On the SG I use a wound G string. I don't find the scale length to make a huge difference
The nut slots and bridge slots make matters the most regarding tuning, even in low tunings.
