Timoti Karetu - He Mumu Reo 2019

He has dedicated more than 50 years of his life nurturing the Māori language to a raft of generations. But as he looks back on the trials and tribulation of te reo Māori, he celebrates those who began with no reo and are now reo speakers and carrying the burden of keeping te reo a living language. However, he weeps for his own iwi Tūhoe, who against all odds maintained their Tūhoetanga, along with te reo Māori as their spoken language. Now, he's saddened by its demise and says Tūhoe cannot sit on its laurels anymore, they need to wake up to the demise of te reo of Tūhoe.
