- Turkey hunting is always frustrating, even when things are going right. They never seem to go where you want them to, they spot the slightest movement, and they'll gobble their heads off until you need them to. A lot of people will say the turkeys are just outsmarting them, but those tiny brains aren't the reason why you're having such a hard time filling that turkey tag. The problem is most likely you. In this video we go over three reasons why you suck at turkey hunting.

Woodsmanship is as important as being a good caller knowing the terrain and using the woods in you favor
I've been turkey hunting for 45 years all over the country and have never eaten a tag. My advice is if you don't have all day don't go. Do your scouting early. Be patient, be still and if he answers you and you know he answered you be quite. He might go off with another hen but he hasn't forgotten about you. I will call lightly once an hour or scratch in the leafs. Most of the time he will answer to that before he comes in but they will come back before dark and check on the new hen he heard. Never give up on your scouting. Most that give up and move bump turkeys even if you don't see them they seen you. So be patient be still wear good camo and trust your scouting
Good advice my first Tom was 3 years in. We roosted that bird and got him first thing in the morning no calling no moving just setup once and he flew down at 5 yards it was magic, this year I've had a hen lead three Tom's away from my calls I used the terrain got within a couple hundred yards was patient and just didn't have all day to wait around the challenge is what makes turkey hunting fun
I don't have anything new to add but I want to stress one point you made in this video and another video you did. SIT!!! When you think you have sat long enough SIAT LONGER.. So many times I have started to make a move only to be busted by the tom I was hunting because he was coming in silent. It happens way more than a guy would think. I have killed a few birds by staying put when I would have spooked them in my younger days.
Also, toss out the yelping once he has answered you a time or two. Yelping indicates "I'm here and I'm coming to you". Purring and soft clucks will bring in even the most stubborn birds most times.
Very good points! Can’t reinforce the patience enough.
I needed to hear that after today thanks!
Any tips on how to get one thats in sight but is hung up at 70-80 yards to come in closer. ive had that happen alot they'll stay back just outside of range till eventually after like 30 minutes they see me.
There are a lot of variables to this. What’s your set up like? What’s the terrain and habitat? Are you calling at him while he’s hung up?
I don’t know what you are talking about. They are everywhere here in North Idaho.
The real reason I suck at turkey hunting this season, I literally can't walk for the entirety of the season
Dang that sucks!
@@InformedOutdoors should be better by deer season. Surgery is tomorrow on my ankle. Rolled it while hunting in December
Damn. Well it’s good you’re getting it fixed relatively soon. Let those things go and then it’ll be your knee and ankle messed up, then your hip. Good luck and speedy recovery!
@@InformedOutdoors might be the other ankle soon
I been turkey hunting for 18 years. Ive killed many turkeys. Usually limit out
Here’s one, Hunting where there are NO / Or a VERY LOW TURKEY 🦃 POPULATION.
There are a ton of turkeys out there. You should have been around 50 years ago when there weren’t many. This guy ain’t old enough to know.
The bird numbers are low bc guys are shooting extra turkeys they don't have tags for or shooting three Jake's. People do what they want. No respect!
