  • I make a crooked knife to carve spoons, bowls etc. aka curved knife , carving knife, hook knife or mocotaugan. Ever since I saw a crooked knife on a Ray Mears show I loved the idea of this 'portable workshop'. So now, I finally make one of these crooked knives using my newly acquired small anvil. I forge the blade out of a very small piece of leftover file from the tanto project. The handle is burnt on and carved ot of some birch. At the end I put it to the test and quickly carve a rough spoon out of some pine.

    You made a great hook knife there! I loved the video, the editing, the music, even the lighting. I hope to one day see a mirror finish on that sharpened blade because I bet it would carve wood like an ice cream scooper!

    Forging with a claw hammer ??? Cool.

      Yeah sort of.. it was the cheapest hammer I could find store and I ground the hammer face into a semi-sphere. So it's basically a ballpeen-clawhammer hybrid haha

      Thanks! I don't quite understand your question (maybe because of translate) the edge is a single bevel to the inside of the curve.

      Robin Coomans, what happens if the cutter part of the mouth is on the inside instead of on the outside?

    • @RobinCoomans
      @RobinCoomans  6 років тому

      In this case it is on the inside. If it was on the outside, it would dig in and it will be very difficult to use.

    Dull blade = terrible results.
