@@onupirat The app doesn't allow you to look at your photos unless you are at home and connected to your WiFi. Immich it's just a photo backup app and let's you organize your photos. If you want to watch or backup your photos when you are way from home you need even more configurations.
If there was an alternative Keep with a similar interface, I've tried a lot of notes apps, but I have never found one that is as minimalistic and at the same time has the ability to attach photos/audio to notes.
This was pretty cool seeing Louis Rossman demonstrating the AI functionality in Immich and hearing abou the performance and behavior differences with nextclout. :)
I was very impressed by this too, so I decided to try it on my personal Immich instance and compare it to google photos Props to the team, it works much better than google photos and works both in english and in portuguese (actual portuguese, not brazilian).
I love that little jab as Nextcloud as somebody who's been running it for years. It's amazing how much you have to tune your server's configuration just for it to be usable. And then... there are the bugs...
It’s pretty good so far. I use it as a secondary backup, but it’s missing the option to delete backed up pictures from my device, which is kind of a dealbreaker
I love immich, but whenever there's an update on the server, I procrastinate updating it until the phone app complains about it. Despite the "recommendation" (more like a "soft requirement") to use the most recent .yml file from releases (which you have to download), I almost always end up going back to an old compose file and carefully go through it, line-by-line, and change whatever needs to be changed (about 20% of the times something needs a change or build will fail). I desperately want a better update experience, all other dockers I use have no issues with a simple pull.
Anyone know of a similar project that can analyze audio in a similar fashion? I want to create a sample preview thing like Splice or Loopcloud, but with my own library of sounds and no subscription fee...
I have used this software for a couple of weeks, and one concern i have is about the format it stores photo on the disk - if maybe there will be functionality to make backups of gallery in some human-acceptable way it would be great)
Is their version works without a server that I can use on my phone to find photo's? I'm considering getting my own server but too much of newbie myself to set it up, probably going to make same mistake like Louis
THANK YOU I love immich, really, it literally solved the problem of exporting photos from an apple device, a nightmare a had to live in for the past 7 years. I'm struggling to understand it's role though. It's not thought to be used as the main gallery app on a phone, because it needs access to the server in order to just look for new photos in the storage of my device (e.g. if I take a picture in airplane mode it doesn't appear on the immich app on my phone until it's not able to connect to the server again.) It's not thought to sync pictures between my server and my phone, as there is no way to select a bunch of picture in the app and download them all together in the device. Or there is no setting that, for example, allows me to automatically keep a copy of all the pictures of the last year on my phone. Did I configure immich incorrectly? Are these features just temporarily missing and already planned? Or am I just suppose to use immich in a different way? Thank you again for creating immich
I did this to get my parents off of Google photos (after I got myself off Google photos) and it's great - we can now share family photo albums using the immich share feature since we all have accounts on my server, and we never have to worry about running out of cloud storage - at least until we take 25TB more photos lol
I would really appreciate a step by step windows and mac tutorial for complete N00bs. All the ones I find I get stuck at the docker and server process.
Wow thanks for that. I know Sony is not perfect but at least their Xperia Phones still come with SD Card slot and headphone jack so I have unlimited storage and my headphones don't die after 2 years cause of the battery
I'm still tagging and describing my photos the old-fashioned way, using regular keywords and manual(ish) face tags. That way, there's 0 guesswork when searching for something - everything gets returned with 100% accuracy. Of course, my whole photo collection is small enough to do that. For a larger collection, Immich would be the solution I'd use.
Can there just be a gallery program for your phone and computer that doesn't do ANY of this, please? Just a digital photoalbum that works like the paper ones do. No geotagging, no processing of any kind, no grouping, themes, hosting, tabs, browser integration or ANY kind of sharing, no hashtags, no ai... Just. Plain. Pictures. The Wordpad of image galleries, if you will. Every time I get used to one program, windows makes it unusable and bricks the operating systems that _do_ still run the program. I miss my ACDSee.... 😔
i use it daily can't imagine life without this app now
Really? You look daily at your photos?

Wow finally something where you can combine green + car
I’m right in the middle of rebuilding my system. This fills a slot perfectly.

Agree! This is great, and it’s pretty easy to get up and running.
Ok Ross. You sold me. I will begin my homework today.
I so much missed "Hey everyone, hope you have a lovely day... " so much. But Immich sounds nice, I wonder how well it works on a Pi.

And also make sure to do a backup of your Proxmox LXC container in case an update breaks your entire Immich installation and completely ruins your day
I agree... It's worth the pain ;D 5:03

Very few releases need an updated yml file, for months I've just been updating the version number in my config and that's it.
Woahhhh so cool!

Tried to install this a while ago, didn't succeed because i don't want to run it on docker. Should give it a try again.
Can you compare it to other self-hosted solutions with ML categorizaion? Programs such as librephotos, PhotoPrism, and Lychee?
Will use and recommend and even pay someday
if you are descriptive with naming your photos and already use sync-thing are there any other benefits to switching to immich?
you name all your photos??
@@itsmealec I'd say probably 80-90% of my photos are named and the ones that aren't are usually organized into folders based on subject.

Keep breaking the phenomenal self hosting tutorial into smaller videos please!
Is this one of those apps that require manual installing or is it user friendly software?
have it and love it
I no longer sync with google photos
If have the day off tomorrow... the tiny CPU in my Synology will not be happy, but it'll run that AI! 😈
Thx
THANK YOU

Can it learn people and pets faces and find them by name ?

It's there on this channel. It's called "FUTO's Guide to a Self Managed Life". But something tells me you already know that

I'm sensing a bit of hate for nextcloud 😂 (I'm with you)
Louis, please convince Immich to drop Redis in favour of something FOSS.

gay
Only a gay person would say that
Most people don't care if you are.
It's ok if you're gay, it's 2024 no worries kitten.
Happy to see the mostly idiot proof guide to installing and using Immich is coming along.
