@jakegarland2 Dude you are a beast, and MMF is a very inspiring band. Very appreciative to see a band like you guys nowadays. Thanks for everything, and keep it up!
No gate here the reverb is from the ROOM kontakt instrument. The snare for this sample pack contains a direct hit.nki and a room.nki, this has additional EQ to make the mix sound tighter though. (Native Kontakt Instrument) I bought it, and it sounds intense in a good mix.
thats the one thing that i love about jake garland, his playing is so clean, his powerfills the ones that you are referring to are so clean, i have been practicing power fills for about 2 years now i can play them but no where near as clean as jake. Thats one of the things that i really take as inspiration for his playing to keep practicing and make everything as solid and clean as he can. Sean
from 0:00 to 0:07 you have the intro right into the chorus until 0:20. a little breakdown followed by the first verse starting at 0:49 to 1:04. Then the chorus again until 1:21 then it's like the part in The Sinner (1:27 in the song) 1:47 we pick back up with a breakdown until 2:01 then a possible gang vocal part until 2:15 where it goes back to the chorus Then it's like in The Victim (2:43 in the song) from 2:28 to 2:49 followed by a breakdown until 3:03 followed by a transition, chorus & outro
But thank you everyone for the support! I'm going to have a few other drum videos made in the near future with a live recording of the drums, so those eager to hear that kind of sound can watch!
Also to everyone who digs the video, I just filmed 3 more (with the ACTUAL drum and room sound for those of you who I know would rather hear that) to a few songs of the new record, so stay tuned for them being released soon!
My theory (as a sound engineer in training) is that what's used here are the edited snare, tom, floor tom, and kick drum tracks. And the cymbal sounds being so low is due to the cymbal tracks being muted and the cymbal sound is actually spilling into the active mics. Although, that snare is being run through some sort of outboard gear to give it that nice reverb.
Most likely the drums were Programmed and he just did a drum play along.. which explains the fade in at 0:21, 1:09, 1:14, 2:15, 2:20,and the scene changes at 1:18, 2:31, and 3:36...Also the cymbals have no dynamics so they are probably programmed out too, not saying he sucks, because hes obviously showing that he can play the parts lol but the drums are most likely programmed out just like most modern post-hardcore and metal-core bands these days
Aaron Whalen What does that have to do with anything? Hes just pointing out That It's Programmed "not saying he sucks, because hes obviously showing that he can play the parts lol but the drums are most likely programmed " Don't be an ignorant idiot
Benedikt Magni ignorant idiot what does it matter if they are programmed or whatever everyone always has to point stuff out when they don't need too fucking stupid
Aaron Whalen Thats not my point. I my self Program a lot and play along.. I can clearly see that he can play this(obviously since he does it live too) but What does him being able to play this have to do with anything? And not everyone knows that he programs stuff.. so its a good pointer for those who don't know. Relax and take a breath.
+lesaymortay1 Is it possible that this is just a mix that makes it sound like this? I'm curious because my band wants to start recording stuff and we're thinking about programing the drums because we don't have tons of extra money to spend on drum mics.
His drums in the first studio update have the audio from the live room. In this video the audio has gone through a mixing board and a computer. so yeah, they sound different.
Most of the bands' drummers that record at chango track the same as they sound on the recording songs, impressive that Jake just plays just exactly as how their songs sound.
Hey guys! Thanks again for continuously checking the video out! Two extra things I just wanted to clarify..as I saw lots of comments about it.. is yes this obviously is not me actually tracking the drums, and is more of a play along to the drum track, and also.. when I made this video I accidentally tracked to a tempo a bit slower than the actual song was tracked to, so all the little edits you see are Sam just editing so the audio lines up and not me taking like 100 takes to film this haha :)
Seems like I need to put this in the description..but to clear it up, the audio from this was sound replaced with one hit of each individual drum. It is still the sound of each drum, and still live room sounds. Nothing was mixed and was not the final drum track, just a quick play through! If you want 100% live audio go watch my drum video for "Prove Me Right" :) Also I use DW 8000 series longboard pedals. They don't make them anymore.
How I've learned it is RL rl BB RL rl BB. The RL are on the snare, the rl on the toms, and the BB on the bass drum. You can do many different variations like RL BB RL BB, or RLRL BBBB RLRL BBBB. Some of the fills in this video are just RL RL across the snare and toms but with the bass drum hitting with each hit with the stick. To get them to sound like Jake's fills you need to obviously speed them up. Hope this helps.
You'd all be surprised how many bands sample replace, the only reason to do it is to get a clearer sound with each hit. The reason there are 3 mics on the kit is to ensure the hit is accurate without using a trigger. The only editing that I hear as a problem on this is that the cymbals are too loud, and for a solo track by itself, there's too much reverb. But, we'll see how that reverb fits into the mix when we get the final product.
triggers are simply a little pad that attaches to the snare head, bass head, tom head, etc... now what it does is go from that to a module for all the present triggers you have and when you hit that certain thing that is "triggered" it outputs a pre-made or user-made sound that distinctively sounds the same every time for a more tight and percussive sound like you just witnessed above... So if you want to sound like Def-leopard or Metallica, it is actually very possible... Hope this helped :-)
I don't mind people disliking that the video has the drum track from the album over it.. But to iplaydrumsye don't act like you know your samples, I can guarantee that you don't have that drum sample.. All of the samples in the video are taken straight from each drum at the studio. That snare is 100% my snare! And it's actually a Truth bubinga wood/brass hybrid snare, not hand hammered brass! :)
Just a funny observation; The beat at 2:04 sounds like the drum intro for "fall out boy - dance dance", just sped up :D (If you wanna hear it, it's about 30 seconds in their music video).
The samples are just to improve quality. He records the drums like he would live. They paste them all together in tempo and perfect sequence. Then comes the samples. The drum tech or producer takes the drum notes and puts them on a piano role on whatever program they use then they put the samples over the same notes the drummer actually played. (;
Yes indeed he was.
hes one of my favorite drummers!!!
Uggghhhh…this is incredible.
Back when drummers ACTUALLY tracked their drums.
Jake ur dope dude 🤙🏻
THAT Snaredrum! This one of my favorite drum videos ever.
@jakegarland2 Dude you are a beast, and MMF is a very inspiring band. Very appreciative to see a band like you guys nowadays. Thanks for everything, and keep it up!
that snare sounds soooooooo gooood!!!!
Every drummer in every band should be required to make a video like this... period.
That noise you are here is the kick with the tom hits my friend.
Both of those drummers are phenomenal.
Beautiful.
That snare is sooo awesome!!!
Yes it is

pretty sick, one of my favorite bands, can't wait to hear the new shit.
This is amazing!
But thank you everyone for the support! I'm going to have a few other drum videos made in the near future with a live recording of the drums, so those eager to hear that kind of sound can watch!
make more plz :)
sounds so good

I could just listen to him play drums all day
this is the song they showed as a teaser in the first studio update. i recognize the drums at the end.
looking forward to hear this track
Clearly different/multiple visual takes over the final track. Honestly, can't wait. It sounds so dope.
Perfect !!!
Jake you´re BEAST!!
Nicely done
agreed. hes amazing
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS NEW ALBUM, CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!
This song is "Losing Sight (feat. Danny Worsnop)" ♥
Awesome!!!!
His snare is sooo deep!

I'd like to see you play this whole song.. Bet you cant
Aaron Whalen What does that have to do with anything? Hes just pointing out That It's Programmed

You are very very technical & talented. Screw what people think about you. ♥
Most of the bands' drummers that record at chango track the same as they sound on the recording songs, impressive that Jake just plays just exactly as how their songs sound.
So anxious for the album to be finished and out already, this wait is gonna suck but be totally worth it!
It's an effect cymbal, the holes give it a special swishy sound.
That kit sounds fucking unreal.
This is the drums to their song Losing Sight its so fucking sick!!
spot on with the bass buddy keep rockin' ! \m/
thank you quantitizing software for making him sound tight
it sounds beutiful
i believe the mix in this video is just the audio from the drum mics. not the overheads.
that's why the cymbals are faint.
Hey guys! Thanks again for continuously checking the video out! can't wait for the song! *-*
This is definitely the drum track for the song from studio update #2!
I can't wait to use this audio as a backing track and make a cover when it's out., :D
dude, that snare is epic every time it's hit with the stick.. so add that up, and that's a lot of epicness bro!
That's the point of sampling. They have the base tones, and then process them with different MIDI effects to produce the desired tone.
what is the name of this song?
Losing Sight
Thanks :P

im diggin this
This is the drum track for Losing Sight featuring Danny Worsnop, thumbs up so people know.
true but it even sounds good in the studio update videos where it's not the actual drum track but just a live recording of the drums
Wow, that's sweet how you picked that out ahah, I never have yet xD Good ears!
bum bum bum bumbumbum bumbumb bumbumbum bumbum bum bum bum bumbumbum bumbum. i play the bass line in my head every time
Siiiick.

No, that actually IS the Memphis May Fire official drum samples, released about 2 weeks ago.
Source: Cameron Mizell.
Such a beast.
you are an amazing drummer! so dope brp. memphis may fire is my favorite band and i cant wait to hear your new album. so excited
I like putting Losing Sight on then this, then get them to be at the same point in the song to watch how he does it. its so much fun!
I wish thats how my heart could beat
Dude I freaking love it! :D
The only reason they sampled this kit in the studio was so that from mic to mic there wasn't any bleed. It makes it sound cleaner.
It would absolutely terrify you at how many times I've played this video Jake~
You'd all be surprised how many bands sample replace, the only reason to do it is to get a clearer sound with each hit. Even with the album out...I still keep coming back to this video. It's just too amazing...
TRIGGERSSS
Yes, those cymbals gotta come up some.
triggers are simply a little pad that attaches to the snare head, bass head, tom head, etc... now what it does is go from that to a module for all the present triggers you have and when you hit that certain thing that is "triggered" it outputs a pre-made or user-made sound that distinctively sounds the same every time for a more tight and percussive sound like you just witnessed above... Freakin' catchy groove!
drum track from MMF studio update 1
