I think it's really cool when I see one of my favorite bands comment on a video about another one of my favorite bands.
actually he played it perfectly, this is the track on the album. it's definitely in time.
saw these dudes every day at warped tour. one of the few bands that could play their songs.can see how consistent he his by how big the wear mark is on his snare head. dig how he pulls back the snare slightly behind the beat on the breakdowns. got relisten to the record, but i wonder if it was beat detected to beat to be perfect on grid. felt awesome here. kudos.
That breakdown at the end just kicked my ass.

For the complexity of a lot of the songs on Challenger, I'm honestly surprised that he doesn't trigger more often. Some of those songs are a pain in the ass with the kick.
Every band should have videos like this for drums.

And regardless, even if Cobus had it doesn't make him any less of being an amazing drummer. Keep it in mind that he taught himself how to play and that he started with whatever kind of drum he could get his hands on. He taught himself and now he's endorsed by a huge drum company, cymbal company, stick company, etc. Cobus has come a long way and he's a fantastic drummer.

I agree. I just recorded a band myself, and the drummer has a great kit, so we wanted to use as much of the natural sound as we could while still catering to the stylistic demands of the genre. The drum sound of this song is more natural than sampled/triggered. I can vouch for that personally! Drum day was so much fun, especially when you have a good drummer with a good-sounding kit! Enjoy! Man I remember back in the days I used to "not like" this band because I was more concerned about my image and all that blah blah. Grew up a bit gave them a real chance a few weeks ago and realized they have one of the best drummers out there man. Like this guy and Danny terchin (oceano) are fucking gods on drums

well i played for a year when i was six so thats how i got to understand a drum set and how to hit a head/cymbal, i started again when i was 14 and im 17 now, have played shows before but they were christian rock bands, not very complicated stuff

google it... kellen is the only original member of the band and takes credit for all of their songs this far. He writes the songs, sends them to the guys to see if they like it, and if they do, it goes on the album.

Haha! Me too!! I'm a drummer myself and I find it more comfortable to be barefoot playing, but it destroys your foot after so many songs.
Okay children, here's the deal. All of you have been spoiled by producers that do this little thing called "Quantizing." It's where when the music is recorded, they take all of the drums, break them up, and sync them into perfect time. then often times, they will take them and layer them with different drum sounds. No drummer actually plays perfectly like the records. But jake garland is one of those drummers that just has great chops, studio or not.
