These are the guys that got the whole nostalgia Top Fuel into action. These cars here were the real deal vintage pipe and all. Cars that would be cacklefest cars today. Fantastic!!
Not necessarily, those cars were safe at the speeds and E.T. they were running. The reason for the changes were the guys with deep pockets pushing these cars beyond there limit. As speeds increased and E.T.'s decreases the deep pocket guys lobbied for rule changes and totally "F"d that class up. Then the NHRA Nazis got involved. They have even put restrictions on the cacklecars to the point they have there own event at Irwindale once a year. Whether or not they still show up or, at least in the numbers they use to, at the Hot rod reunions I don't as I quit going 1 year before they started roping off the areas where the cacklecars would their static start up. These cars had no computers and no throttle stops and were the definition of simple. Notice the lack of big ugly canard wings but the cars still went straight....
These sling shots are the best absolutely love the wine from the superchargers nostalgic racing is awesome they should have the good old days come back once a month somewhere
Go back to playing checkers dude....all forms of racing has risks. The biggest danger these drivers faced in the day were clutch explosions. With the clutches and safety equipment upgrades these cars had, this was the 90's don't forget, these were much safer than what they ran in the 60's early 70's. These cars in this video including the breather masks and top end supercharger whine completely brought back that vibe and era. The only thing missing were the push starts....like I said in my previous comment the guys with the deep pockets ruined it as well as the guys in nostalgia funny car....it's not old school anymore just a facade
You know they’re beasts when even the camera footage goes all wobbly when they floor it at 2:58 and about 4:26 lol! Must be the sheer vibrations making the old video recorder parts shake while filming!
This is how nostalgia top fuel shood have stayed. Once the guys with the deep pockets got involved the rules changed and so did the cars to what they run today. These cars were the real deal and I miss the breather masks. The same scenario for what nostalgia funny car has become
Lovely ! but please when you ad end notation for next videos makes them a bit shorter and more towards the end so you dont kill the view of the last seconds , so many guys miss this sadly and ruins some of the experience of the video , **you can adjust the lenght of notations in your UA-cam profile by dragging the notation cliptime line or when you ad clips you ad a few seconds of blank frames and clip in the notation there. Keep it lit !
Does anybody know, remember or appreciate the guy that made the adapters to mount a General Motors Detroit Diesel supercharger on top of a Chrysler Hemi?
You have no idea what your talking about, my father has two top fuel front engine nostalgia dragsters and we ran 75% to 85% we would mix accordingly every pass.

What a flash back. Never could get enough of the whine of the supercharger at the high end!
Nothing like high rpm supercharger whine. Best sound in motorsports.

Is it just me or do the AA/FDs run a larger right rear tire?!?!?!
