Just got my first yesterday. A 3-3.5 inch black cat-fully blacked out and colored in. Artist put gauze and wrapped it and told me to leave it wrapped overnight then take the bandage off. Once a day gently wash with unscented antibacterial soap and apply a thin layer of aquaphor 2-3x a day for a week. No need to re-wrap nightly. Tattoo only bled slightly night after getting it and color isn’t bleeding off. Just listen to your artists recommendations. They are the ones who gave you the tat and they will know best above all.
Got my first night behind me after a 4 hour session yesterday. My artist told me not to put new foil on it but just cleaning it and applying the lotion he gave me. (tattoomed after tattoo) I had pretty much no ink coming out over night. Just shows how every artist has a differrent approach and how everyone should listen to his artist. After all they know best :D
How long should I keep applying these second skin wraps? I just got a tattoo on my calf and today is day 2. I came home and washed my tattoo and re applied aquafor and the second skin and also took it off this morning, cleaned it and did the same thing again. Just wondering how long I should keep that routine?
I waited about 11 years to start getting tattooed again from 18 after I got most of my left arm covered. The old work vs the tattoos I’ve been getting now are night and day. Healing was always an issue when I was younger because of a lack of information. Now being OCD, my neck, right arm and chest are coming vibrant and very colorful, as they are heavy in reds, whites, and pinks. Thanks for your help on furthering my OCD with securing the artwork to heal the best as well as make my hard earned money not feel wasted! Thanks man!
I agree that you should let your tattoo breath after the first day! On the subject of Saniderm, keep in mind that there are people that allergic to the adhesive of the plastic. So read the packaging folks! Other than that, Saniderm is great. You can skip all the worry of cleaning and putting ointment for the first 3 to 4 days! Most artists that put Saniderm on me recommended to not leave it on for more than 4 days
I just got my very first tattoo six days ago and I had the second skin and it was amazing I didn't have to worry about as you stayed at all of the other things I am now on day six I removed it on day five per my tattoo artist recommendation and I've had no issues thank God I would highly recommend it
I have seven pretty decent size tattoos and I just learned about Saniderm. My artist used in on my forearm and it pretty nice not having to do anything for the first 4-5 days. After than you just peel it off slowly and use Aquaphor or Lubiderm. I recommend Aquaphor first cus your skin will be really dry. Use that about 3 days and then use lotion(fragrance free). I'm sure there's a few other ways to heal your new tat but mime have heald very nicely so I've kept with the same routine.
I've received 3 good size tattoos in the last 4 months, my artist put saniderm on just before I leave and it stays on for 5 days and I am amazed at how well my ink heals. No itching or scabing, healing is a breeze
Did you get a lot of fluid under the saniderm because I got mine yesterday and he too put Saniderm on mine but I woke up to a lot of fluid under the Saniderm
@@ninaQ831 not a bit, maybe he didn't let it weep long enough, only a few minutes, and wipe it clean with paper towel before putting the saniderm on. Smooth from center out. Good luck... The “inksack” is normal, dont try to pop it, just let it do its thing itll soak back in. My heavy black tat did the same thing and i was told to leave it and it healed great and very saturated and smooth looking
In my opinion. This is by far the most informational tattoo video! Lol ,answered every question i needed and made me feel a lot more at ease on how to take care of it after
I’ve had a large portion of my back done and second skin is a must I typically will leave it on till the 4-5 day mark when I start to itch and it starts to come loose and take it off in the shower with water hitting it as it hurts pulling it off as it’s stuck to tender healing skin but the water makes it much easier to remove there will be some ink plasma and dried blood on it but it’s fine not to touch it up to 5 days longer depending upon the rate the edges loosen up.
Question getting my forearm done on the 29th so when I get home and take the plastic off from the shop I take a shower and put the second skin on and leave it on for 4-5 days. Then repeat for 2 weeks??
Everytime I get a tattoo you just make sure to wash your bedsheets like every few days or even more , just keep it clean , and don’t worry , it’s gonna touch your bed it’s gonna touch your blankets , you have to be able to get good sleep for the tattoo to heal properly , so just keep it clean and you will be fine no matter how you sleep or how much of the tattoo is touching your bed , never ever had a problem becuase of this .
I use saniderm and its amazing. My artist puts it on, I keave it for 3 days then take it off, wash it and put one more on for 24-48 hours. Then I take it off and start with the aftercare saniderm stick. Having that second skin on for 3-5 days helps avoid all those issues in the most vulnerable part of your healing. I highly recommend it.
Currently watching this at 3:30 am lol. Got a new tattoo that runs down my entire inner forearm and I’ve been in one position the entire night so that it doesn’t touch anything. This is the first time I couldn’t sleep because of a tattoo.
Saniderm or any of those bandages are such a game changer for healing. It is amazing. I didnt use it for my first half sleeve but for the other half of my arm it was amazing for the begining stages of healing. Cant wait to see you try it out and do a reaction xD
@@mercurytiger Depends what you mean by sleep on it. It is definitely way more protected with it on since its pretty much a barrier. Id still keep careful of the area when sleeping. CaRve Rage It can leave the tattoo blotchy if you sleep on it because it can cause you to sweat some of the ink out. It’s not going to ruin the tattoo but you may need a touch up if that happens. Thanks for the heads up. I once had a similar reaction to one of those anti blister second skin heel protector, so I was very wary already, but I now know for certain it won't be for me 😕
I got a tattoo on my leg 2 days ago, the Lower part like a snake coiled upwards, so what I’m doing is just whenever I’m laying or relaxing or sleeping on the bed, I keep a pillow under my leg so it’s never in direct contact with the sheet, but I also keep an extra clean washed bed sheet too. It’s very comfortable, and of course it hurts when it touches anything so this is great for me!

I got a large forearm tattoo yesterday and I left it unwrapped (clean with some healing ointment) overnight and I was determined to not move in my sleep. I was lucky that I woke up with my forearm in the same position I went to sleep in 😂 but I know I don’t move a whole lot when I sleep, that probably wouldn’t work out too well for most. I’m definitely going to use Saniderm when I do my full sleeve!
Thank you you answered so much of my questions! I'm planning to get both arm sleeves and one of my legs done and I needed to know how to survive for that first week lol
Yeah I probably get a bit fussy looking after the new tattoo for a week or two.....spending good money on the work so do my best to get best results for lasting work
I’m confused because honestly my tattoo didn’t bleed at all or any plasma crap. My wrap was recommended to stay on for 2-3 days also. And I just put on a tshirt whenever I sleep just so I don’t scratch or rub it, if I do at least I have a layer in between. I got my tattoo a little more than a week ago and it’s healing well. It’s a fine line tattoo, peels in tiny bits, it stopped itching like crazy after 4-5 days and only itches every now and then. So far it looks great
Inked a friend of mine. He got drunk that night. Passed out on a pleather couch, tattoo down. When he peeled himself off the next morning, it peeled off his new tattoo right along with him.
just got in on Thursday. My artist used saniderm and said I can leave it for 4-6 days but it got pretty icky so I took it off after 24 hours and have been puting Aquaphor on it since. It's healing great no problems
Quick question if u were doing a all day session like 10 hours and u got home late how wld u treat it. Would you just go to sleep and let it do its work over night and wash it the morning?? or would u wait a couple hours after getting it to get quick wash in then wrap and go to bed.
You could do both but what I’ve always had late sessions so what I’ve done is wait a couple hours (or sleep abit with an alarm set) clean it then go to sleep
a session that long, depending on the colour and detail, is in half sleeve territory and it’s more than likely the artist would have wrapped a tattoo that size in SecondSkin or some equivalent that’s meant to stay on for as long as it stays uncompromised.

But i recover it with cling wrap because i move a lot in my sleep. Only thing i couldn't clean my bedsheets because i got the tattoo late.
Just tried second skin for the first time especially for this reason. It really Fucked me up. By the day two or three my whole fresh tattoo under the sandierm was swollen and red caused by bad allergic reaction. Gladly the reaction went away by using antihistamin and Some fresh air. Hey Justin your videos are great I’m glad to have come across them!!!! I’d like to ask you a question. The moment I’m writing this is the Day 1 of my first tatto which is the whole upper arm. Now I’ve been trying to stay very cautious with the healing ointment I use but I think I put way too much before I go to sleep and I panicked so I took some dry kitchen towel and dapped some of it off just in case... how much ointment do you recommend I use throughout the day and how much before I go to sleep?
Hey what’s up! So I would say use a good amount to cover the whole area, let it sit for acouple min to just let the skin absorb it as much as possible then take a clean and new Paper towel and dab it. The excess ointment will come off with the paper towel. Then you’re Goood to go. Do it for both during the day and before bed
I’ve had a sleeve done and am going in soon to get more tattoos. Most of these I have been told about by my artist except for the extra wrap after you wash the tattoo on the first day
I recommend it because if not you can run higher chance of infection because the plastic wrap adds as another and also prevents clothes and bedsheets from sticking to the healing tattoos
I kind of just follow the advice of my artist. Not that I wouldn't follow your advice. I think this was great advice!!! But I think you should always listen to the artist. I remember when I slept with my first ink, I just had the cling-film over them and was all g

Hey I’m bouta start my sleeve next week. I know I should sleep on clean bed sheets to start but how often should I wash/ change the sheets during the healing process?
got my first one 2 weeks ago. i used plastic wrap for the first 2 days and on the third day just let it breathe, everything went fine so far. wednesday this week the i'll get my second from an other artist and i'll see what he will recommend me. some friends used this second skin shit and they hated it. they said the moment u have to take it of it hurts like hell, haha. so i took the classic plastic wrap. it works well on the arms, but at shoulders i dont know.
My artist even didnt recommend washing it.. after few days got a rash, had to go to the doctors office got anti allergic pills and started washing it. goes way better now
I’ve read/heard the opposite in the plastic, though it makes sense, the breathing aspect and cleaning is most consistent. Your other info is 100% right on? Thanks!

Geez, I gotta wash my bed sheets before this appointment.
I would. Just for extra precautions
@@justinkd is it ok if I use tegaderm starting on the day of my appointment for when I get my first tattoo and is tegaderm just as good as saniderm to use? Tegaderm is all I was able to get and all I could afford. Please get back to me whenever you get the chance to do so? New to this channel. Also this topic is something I’m nervous about.
pro tip for legs and arms. Put the arm/leg into a clean pillowcase when you go to sleep on the first night.
I leave the wrap on for 3 hours … take it off .. wash with dial gold anti bac soap . That’s it . 2 days later I put on a tat balm - love Viking revolution - now I wash with dial soap 3-4 times daily . Had 3 and they have all healed wonderful! Use clean soft towels for sleeping .
My artist uses saniterm thank god it heals great w no problem
You can't tell your significant other to sleep on the floor 😂😂
Why not? Lol
He can sleep on the mat in the bathroom
getting my first tat in two days time, two big moths on my calf, and this video, alongside your other prepping vids, have truly eased my mind, cheers mate🤙🏼
So, how do they look like now?
How did it come out
Just got my first tattoo today, watched this vid and the cleaning vid, thanks for the awesome advice💪💪
My pleasure glad I could help!! Hope your tattoo heals well! 👊🏼
@@justinkd thanks man it’s healed up pretty good already, feels stiff though, I just saw your pain scale video and I just got my forearm done. The wrist killed brotha it was bad😂😂
Great video full of good info--thanks! Also, I have to say that your accent makes me smile. 😁👍🏼
Just got a sleeve tattoo in Korea first night was uncomfortable. Gotta say watching your video definitely made me feel at ease more
why Korea
@@golfdrugs8831 if you wanna know why look up pitta_kkm on ig . I like he's art work
I dont know if you have ever had a cat. But you cant just tell then “no”. Lol
They dont care what you say. 😂
I don’t have one or have ever owned one. It I know Cats are assholes and do what they please 😂
@@justinkd hey man, your really cool for responding to a new comment on a video you posted months ago. You got another subscriber today. Great videos!
So far it looks great
Sometimes tattoos don’t do that and if yours has fine lines it might not be as obvious as a bigger more fully saturated tat
Great advice, great tattoos also, real nice to hear a dude who knows real tattoo care
Just trying to help others out and I’m always learning as I go
I toss and turn at night and I woke up with ink on my sheets almost a full impression of it 🥴
Is it gonna ruin the color of tattoo?
I have no interest in any tattoos of any kind, but I really love watching this guys videos.
Inked a friend of mine. He got drunk that night. Passed out on a pleather couch, tattoo down. When he peeled himself off the next morning, it peeled off his new tattoo right along with him.
Seriously?
Thats total nonsense
Well will be of that size. This is going to be my first tattoo. My appointment is on October 8th. Two days after my birthday.
just got in on Thursday.
@@MrStockoHMK well the 10 changed to 6 in a half. But came out great even without tegaderm or other 2nd skin.
I am so glad I stumbled upon your UA-cam channel! I am getting my first tattoo next week and all of the videos I've seen so far has really been helping me! Thanks again and keep up the great work!
So glad I’ve been able to help you out before your tattoo 🙏🏼 I’ll continue to keep putting out content to help people on their own tattoo journey
I sleep with my arm on my table or leg and sleep in my back and let it breathe but to each there own sir
Getting my first ever tattoo on Saturday on my forearm and getting a mid size cross needed this video ⚡️
I just got my first tattoo on my forearm as well :D coming on day 6 of having the saniderm skin on. Can’t wait to take it off on Wednesday and clean it for the first time.
Been watching all videos to get prepared for my first piece
Goodluck and hope I’ve been able to help out 🙏🏼👊🏼
@@justinkd most def. From sleeping, to how to prepare a day before and what to do and not to do, to not be in the bust tattoo videos🤣
Just got tattoo on my leg
I was looking for this
Thx
Just say your videos. I just got my first one tattoo done on my shoulder and the saniderm was coming off. So i watched your cleaning video, i followed what you said.
Im never using second skin again… :D
Fact: Lubriderm is the best lotion to moisturize your tattoo
That shit drys out fast
@@higgs878 you’re only supposed to put a thin layer on the tattoo 4 times a day. If it drys out fast put 5-6 times a day
Awesome video like always bro! Im getting mine soon so this will definitely help me out
Always appreciate the support thank you 🙏🏼
I wasn’t given a wrap for my tattoo, asked for one but he said he didn’t recommend them but he gave me some A&D Ointment
Where’d you get it done
He’s old school and needs to get with the times. Second skin is a game changer man for real.
@@omgnagel2897 saniderm is fucking trash
@@IDontAShitGive Elaborate. My experience (using about 5 times now) super easy healing.
@@omgnagel2897 the tried and true meat packing pads are the way to go in my opinion. peeling that saniderm crap off your skin absolutely sucks.
I was in a foreign country so I tried to sleep in a position where my arm/shoulder was in air I had my forearm on a pillow so my upper arm and shoulder are elevated in the air😂😂
As a tattoo artist I made the switch to saniderm on all my tattoos it cost more then plastic wrap but imo it's better then taping on plastic wrap
First time I watch, it's very cool channel, I am gonna have my first tattoo this Sunday, Chinese calligraphy in Guangzhou, I am excited, advices you are giving are very valuable, thanks bro, I am fan from now, by the way you have fantastic sleeves.
Good luck with the tattoo!! And thank you appreciate the words of support 👊🏼🙏🏼
@@justinkd can I sleep with the original wrapping for the first night? Got the tattoo late
Ive got a cat and because of That I used to sleep witv plastic wrapped around my arms for the first Week 😅
I take the plastic wrap off soon as I get home, suffocating a bleeding wound with plastic isn’t a good idea, I spray my tattoos with a mixture of witch hazel (no alcohol) and some hemp oil multiple times a day, does the trick for me.
Bro where do you get the hemp oil at ??
@@justinkd exactly that what I doing with my lower half arm sleeve last week.. I’m very happy with it
I’m 15 rn and getting a back tattoo for my 16th bday in a few days, it’s pretty big so I’m nervous about the aftercare, these help so much though 😭
oops, i didn't know I was supposed to put more plastic wrap on.
Your good right cause I just got mines yesterday and I didn’t put plastic wrap on mines to go to sleep
@@kevenrowe2958 yes. Healed nicely.
On the clean supply. The advise you gave on the different types of ointment.
My biggest worry was how to sleep it.
I have a 2nd skin on my arm now. I will change it tonight and reapply and leave it for 6 more days.
Bepanthen cream is great for the aftercare of my new tattoo. My tattoo artist recommended it. It is available in Australia.
I have a new tattoo on my shin, a fresh clean old towel underneath my leg in bed in case I turn and ink transfers, sleeping on my back and my freshly tattooed shin exposed.
Appreciated your video, thanks for sharing!
My artist adviced me from bepanthen
Thx I just got my 1st tat and I usually sleep on my right side but now I can't for 2 weeks
It’s funny my first tattoo I was on a Naval vessel didn’t have second skin, didn’t sanitize my sheets, had neospirin that was it
When I wrap my tattoo it sweats and the ink ran off...I was pissed
It will do that the first couple nights. You’re fine and so is the tattoo 👌🏼
Going for my first session on the 20th of October to start my chest piece. Super excited
OUUU full chest 🤔 what are you getting?

It’s been 3 days since I got my quarter sleeve, can I sleep and go to work without a wrap?
Hell yeah, nice vid bro🔥
thank you 👊
I sleep on my stomach, use ointment and rewrap areas
Hey I’m bouta start my sleeve next week. I know I should sleep on clean bed sheets to start but how often should I wash/ change the sheets during the healing process?
Dude you have awesome work!!Very nice
One of my dogs kept sticking just her nose in my fresh tat when I got my leg done and that always stung.
dogs are the best, probably just wanted to try and see what was wrong and help 💁
My dog does the same lol
They smell the open wound & blood & whatever ointment/cleaning the artist uses.
got my first one 2 weeks ago. i used plastic wrap for the first 2 days and on the third day just let it breathe, everything went fine so far. wednesday this week the i'll get my second from an other artist and i'll see what he will recommend me. some friends used this second skin shit and they hated it. they said the moment u have to take it of it hurts like hell, haha. so i took the classic plastic wrap. it works well on the arms, but at shoulders i dont know.
My artist even didnt recommend washing it.. after few days got a rash, had to go to the doctors office got anti allergic pills and started washing it. goes way better now
I don’t know why an artist would recommend this. Simply washing it and using soap can do so much it terms of cleaning it of any germs
are u going to try and complete ur leg sleeve relatively soon so the fading happens at the same time?
going to try and get it done in a decent time frame 👊
I just wash them with antibacterial soap and use a thin layer of A&D ointment. Works fine for me.
The back tattoos are notorious for sleeping when they are fresh.
I hope ur channel grows more. If not faster then at least at the same pace
Slowly but surely 👊🏼🙏🏼
Saniderm is amazing
I re wrapped my hand for the first night but for my arms just wore a long sleeve shirt for a few days
Have a question is Hamp tattoo enhancing body moisturizer any good
These enhancing body moisturizers I think are abit of a money grab. I don’t think you’d notice any difference from grabbing a regular moisturizer
This is why I use saniderm so you don’t have to worry about nothing happening
What does saniderm do
@@JesseTalksTruth it’s like a second skin
@@skyepawl4532 oh ok got my first tat like 4 days ago just been avoiding lots of water pressure on it and putting aquaphor when dry
Yeah I wish. Used it once extremely allergic though. Super bad skin reaction. Messed up my whole tatt.
I’ve read/heard the opposite in the plastic, though it makes sense, the breathing aspect and cleaning is most consistent. Your other info is 100% right on? Thanks!
