historical reference: The first version of this song was written on December 2, 1901, on the occasion of the secession of Ukrainian students in Lviv.
Many variants can be found in Ukrainian songbooks from the times of the First World War and the Civil War. The music is written in the style of a march.
This version is taken from the Ukrainian hymn "Our thought, our song will not die, will not perish!", which was printed in 1918 by the Ukrainian diaspora of New York.
