1. Usually you do 2 vaults. And each vault must be different. So if you had done an Amanar vault on the first, you must do a Cheng vault on the second. Or if you have done the Yurchenko with 1 1/2 twists, you need to do the Yurchenko with 2 1/2 twists. 2. A proper vault involves a full run-up, usually a round-off to a flic-flac (flic flac is the touch of the vault upside down with the hands using the hands as a spring), finishing off with a salto and/or twist display in the air, leading to the landing on the mat. 3. If you stop just short of the vault without completing it, you are scored a 0. If you land but you go way out of bounds on the landing in vault and completely fall down, you are scored a 0. Too many hops on the landing w/o going out of bounds can also lead to minor point deductions. 4. For much lower grade vaults (for example, Grade 1 vaults), it is allowable to not to do the upside-down flic-flac and just gallop on the vault towards a less difficult vault finish. 5. For higher grade vaults, you are also scored especially on the form in the "air" part of the vault, and the height as you touch the vault towards your air part. 6. NOTE: Treat each vault run like a drag race - if you do that run-up on the vault on a red light (that is, you run on a red light, signaling that the judges are not ready to score you), the whole vault is nullified and disqualified, even if you do a perfect routine. You must only vault if the green signal is given. If red, you must wait!!!
Please try to involve women too. Vault is also in women's gymnastics but this week, the guides to gymnastics have all been men focused. I'm usually not that person complaining that there are not enough females involved but it's a little to obvious here. So for floor and vault, you could've done at least one with a woman. I enjoy these video's but I would appreciate to also see a beam or woman bridge guide.
