Excellent interview. I greatly appreciate Bono‘s faith and activism. He may not be the perfect Christian, but nobody else is either. he is trying hard to be his best and do his best, and he is leaning on Jesus for help there in those things as well.

I know one individual who became a Christian after reading about Bono back in '83. It changed the trajectory of his life, and he married, became a teacher and has been a solid rock in the lives of many teens in his community. He had been the FM program director of a local rock and roll radio station. I think Bono and this man would have a great conversation in heaven one day. Personally, U2 music lifted me out of some very dark times in my life and sustained my faith. God spoke to my through the lyrics. I have always prayed for the safety and well being of U2 as a thank you. Plus, the influence on the FM program director, who was a very loud opinionated atheist. His becoming a Christian really shook up a lot of people, is another reason for asking God's blessing on the band and their loved ones. Their sacrifices of being away from loved ones has not escaped God's notice.

This 53yo man owes it to those albums. Especially as a 9th grade Protestant 4 spiritual law partaker at a BaptistI church. I had no religious upbringing until then. While in that youth group I still recall sensing in my soul to ask my youth pastor to play those songs. Nope.
Who knew I would be crossing a strong bridge over fresh mountain water on the black side of traumas mountains to ring Brocha’s broken bell anew.
After months on the PCT in 2018, I was called to become all in the RCC. I obeyed.
    St. Brendan, pray for us.

I always thought that Hewson was uneducated, but the suggested knowledge here of the works of Turner & Eliot suggests otherwise

@@SweetThing He rarely said anything in interviews thru the years that suggested otherwise, it's only recently I've realised that that was a false impression, & he may actually be quite bright & well read after all

Bono/U2 have inadvertently served as the torch bearers of deeply thoughtful and reflective Christian faith to a wider secular audience since the early 80s.

"Peace Talks To Hold" -- remake of Silver and Gold-- is not among the 40 re-imagined tracks on Songs of Surrender.

MUSIC NEWS MARCH 31, 2022 11:33 PM ET
BONO SHARED WITH PELOSI MORE THAN HIS POEM
Then Pelosi shared U2 song remake with staffers - by ALLAN DAVIDSON / Special To Rolling Stone
On March 17, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi shared a new poem written by Bono at the annual Friends of Ireland Luncheon, with the U2 frontman comparing the Ukraine president to the Irish saint. Rolling Stone has now confirmed that on March 24 Bono sent Pelosi a follow-up message which included a rough audio mix of an upcoming U2 track, Peace Talks To Hold - a remake of 1985’s Silver and Gold - first heard on the benefit album Artists Against Apartheid, featuring Bono, Keith Richards, and Ron Wood.
    [snip]
    Peace Talks To Hold
In the art school a bomb blast
    The cruise missile comes down
    Only civilians are hunted
    In this scorched-earth town
    Scorched-earth town
    Emerge from the black nights
Looks like the sky fall down
    Quench fires in the daylight
See the blood spilled on the ground
    Spilled on the ground
    Everyone knows
    Starvation grows
    If you wanna way out
    Peace talks to hold
    Broken dreams, broken windows
    Broken ceasefires and lives
I look at the evil, it's moving
    A pariah surprise
    There's a war criminal
    And there's people who resist
    Jesus, say something
    They will persist!
    They will persist!
    They will persist!
    The hellscape grows
    Atrocities show
    The only way out
    Peace talks to hold
    Peace talks to hold
    Seen empty baby strollers
Seen dead children and their moms
    Seen them army uniforms
Seen them bright and shiny bombs
    Bright shiny bombs
    Hypersonic missiles fired
    Their speed Mach 5 hot
    Mister, Ukrainians have souls
And it's more than you got
    Chains will never bind them
Nor will shackles at their feet
    Russians are the prisoners
    And the West is free
    They are free
    They are free
A great leader in a crisis is bold
    Press to the goal
    Peace talks to hold
    Peace talks to hold
    Spoken:
Yep, when are the peace talks?
This song was written about a man named Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, the new St. Patrick.
His goal? To drive out those old snakes once again.
A man who's sick of seeing Mariupol under siege.
A man who said droppin' a bomb on a maternity hospital is the ultimate proof of Ukrainian genocide.
A man who's sick of lookin' down the barrel of the Russian army.
A man who has rallied his countrymen to take up arms against an unprovoked invasion.
A man who said, "I need ammunition, not a ride."
A man who is askin’ more from the leaders of the West, and from those in the Middle East, like Israel.
A man who said Jerusalem is the right place for peace talks with Russia.
Am I buggin' you? I don't mean to bug ya. ...
    OK Edge, play the blues!
