This is, by far, the most useful and beautiful review of any microphone i've seen so far. You should have way more subscribers. And your voice.... WOW! Congratulations, I really wish you the best as you definitely deserve it.
I agree . We’ve just started a podcast . After the first one went to amazon and brought 4 microphones on usb . Using a USB adapter we linked to the laptop without success . We found when we used a virtual audio cable we got a message on voicemeeter and audacity saying (trial) . We’ve sent them Back now and are looking at getting 4 xlr microphones with a zoom h5 with add on or h6. Would you think this would do the trick ?
Brilliant review. I've just received my H5. All the buttons are lovely and clicky apart from the record button. Is this soft so that a click doesn't appear in the track? Or is mine defective?
If you want more XLR inputs, but are not ready to abandon your H5 for an H6, you can get a Zoom EXH-6, which plugs into the top of the H5. It costs about 80 bucks.
@@christianskyes Oh, I wasn't aware of that, but it makes sense, of course. Two AA batteries would be drained in 5 minutes if they had to provide phantom power for four mics. But the only application for this I can think of would be a round table discussion or podcast, in which case you'd likely use dynamic mics anyway.
Great review, great shots and editing and I love you organization. Everything about this video and how you did it is so clean and should serve as an example of how tech reviews should be.
Brilliant review. I've just received my H5. All the buttons are lovely and clicky apart from the record button. Is this soft so that a click doesn't appear in the track? Or is mine defective?
I’ve had my H5 for a number of years. Shortly after I got it I wished I’d bought 2 or more H1’s for a high quality wireless like Lav Mic’s. That was based on what I was doing then. But now when I don’t need that for about the same money. Zoom has a Lav mic unit. Today I’m using it as an audio interface for Reaper my DAW. so I wish I had the H6 & will probably upgrade to that before to long.
I have an H5 but was nevertheless curious to hear your review. For the most part, your review seems accurate and covered many of the considerations I considered when I was looking for an audio recorder. The only part of your review that might be a bit misleading is the suggestion that you can only record with two external inputs. In stock form this is true, although the built-in left and right mics on the top of the unit can be used simultaneously. However, if you want to record with 4 external microphones, this too is possible with the H5. Zoom makes a module that replaces the XY mics that come with the unit, which you showed in the list of accessories that can be attached, which offers two additional external inputs in lieu of microphones. This makes the H5 a very versatile recorder and one of the best of the prosumer handheld recorders. You also did not really touch on the multitrack capability for musicians, which also sets this unit apart from others and to some extent offers multitracking functionality similar to that possible with the H4N, with all the advantages of the cleaner preamps and replaceable modules.
You are indeed correct about the capsule input, where you can plug in two more mics. I forgot to include it, it seems. It is worth pointing out that the device can not provide phantom power to the extra two inputs though. That is a great point in terms of musical use, though I didn't use it in that way, so didn't want to go down that rabbit hole. It's always great when people comment on the videos and add extra info though, so thank you! :)
SKYES Audio Thanks for your reply and good call on the lack of phantom power for the external inputs on the add-on capsule. Still, the ability to hang 4 external mics off of a handheld field recorder, even if two inputs are limited to the use of dynamic mics, is impressive and offers placement possibilities beyond what is possible with the fixed position XY mics.
YES!! Dude, I was impatiently waiting for you to post a new video on this channel. Voice over, music, video quality ---outstanding. Keep it going. Trust me. Push forward and get that volume of videos up! Outstanding work!!!
Wow. I was not expecting such great quality from a tech review...and I would say you've done such a grand job you've gone far above the standards I've yet seen. If you don't mind, I'd like to put a link on my website to this video. Thank you for putting in this work (you're quite talented)...this was such a good review as well, that I just subscribed.
@@silverlightphotoco Thanks :) I'm actually having a lot of fun problem solving those three things at the moment, as I've been a digital nomad for a while, so I don't always have control over the lighting situation, can't carry large cameras, and can't carry too much audio gear. As a result, wherever Im staying, I need to figure out how I can make everything work well, with the equipment that I have, and the environment that I'm in :)
wow! you put so much effort in this video. it's beautiful, useful and calming at the same time. I am thinking of getting Zoom h6, I think it's a good choice as I'm recording videos at home and outside and also want to start a podcast. thank you for this video
Can the line in record levels be turned down for a hot signal? I record live music direct from an amp on the street. I use H2. It distorts in line in and cannot be turned down to a usable level. I would have to turn the amp volume down to get the record signal to go down. It has no limiter when using line input. Does h5 have a limiter on line in?
Quality over quantity huh? I just discovered your channel while searching informations about multitrack recording on Zoom H6, and I'm loving your videos, your voice and this... "chill vibe" that you edit your videos, it's so relaxing and satisfying watching your videos... Subscribed! 😁
In an ideal world, it would be both quality and quantity :D Working on making that a possibility. Welcome! Also, happy to hear that! I enjoy making chill reviews like this, and I'll keep them coming!

TL DR: "Is the Zoom H5 Worth Buying in 2020?" HELL NO..!! Here's why: For me it's not worth it. Mine broken before I even start my production. I bought my Zoom H5 in the end of 2019, and just about to start my 1st project last night (20 April 2020). The only time I used my Zoom H5 to record a voice using my Audio Technica AT875R condenser mic is when I first bought it, just only to test that it's working well and I got the right setting (Phantom power +48V, etc). It's working well with no problem when I got it couple months ago. Last night, I tried to turn on my H5 and it said "Low Battery" and suddenly turned off. Well okay, I think that new battery I put inside somehow had already dried out inside the Zoom. It's new battery and never been used anyway. Then I took a couple of new AA 1.5v Alkaline battery, same brand, fresh and sealed, and put it in my Zoom. Again, it directly said it has low battery and suddenly turned off. I tried it with 3 couples of new AA 1.5v Alkaline battery, all results are the same, Low Bat and turned off. I tried to power my zoom H5 using USB 5V that come within the package. It won't turned on at first. But I kept trying to power it on, finally it turned on, and keeping on for about 10 minutes. New problem detected. The XYH-5 capsule mic that came with the H5 and embedded on top of it, was not capturing any voice signal. I tried to record, the result was totally silent. No signal at all. I directly factory reset my H5 just in case I accidentally change some setting last time I tested it couple months ago. I manage to reset it and update the latest firmware (v2.1). Well, actually it's already got the latest firmware, but I re-installed it anyway since I just did factory reset. After that, the exact problem still occurred. Nothing fixed or changed at all. Still no sound or any signal appear on screen. And until finally it turned off randomly, just like before. I've tried so many methods and ideas Google told me from forum, etc. Nothing worked. Instead, almost everybody who got the same problem with me, finally decided to bring their Zoom H5 back to the official service center and got their H5's motherboard replaced with new one. This morning I tried to work on it again, trying to fix it (again). I tried to power it on using battery, now it only turned on until the logo appear (about 1-2 second screen on), and suddenly off. The "Low Battery" notification that used to appeared last night didn't even appear. It's literally turned on for 1 sec for displaying Zoom logo, then suddenly Off like broken device (and yeah I think it's really broken). I tried to power it on using USB 5V, (with and without battery attached inside), it wouldn't be turned on at all. Totally dead. For your information, I put my Zoom H5 inside my electronic drying cabinet, together with all of my lenses and cameras. I never got it bumped, fallen, crashed, wet, dusty or anything. I hardly save my money for months only to buy this Zoom H5 and my AT875R condenser, and I broke as fu*k for couple weeks after purchasing them. So I really took care of it like a baby. But yea, it's broken, no hope at all. The even worse thing is, my AT875R also become useless and non-functional because I don't have any option to power it on, because it needs phantom power. Still waiting for any response from Zoom company in my country, Indonesia. And still no answer until now. Maybe it will even more delayed due to Corona. The point is, I still do believe (but not 100% anymore) that Zoom has great quality and trusted within another option and brands. But, 2020 is the Corona year, probably until mid-late this year. My experience above, should taken as a warning, that though Zoom is pretty much have a good track record, but it does broke on my case. And if you buy Zoom in this period of pandemic, and my problems also happened to you, you'll probably wont be able to get any proper and fast services response for your problem. Is the Zoom H5 Worth Buying in 2020? HELL NO. If you guys have any thought that might help my problem, please, please give me solution. I really need to continue making contents. Have to go back to my Boya BY-M1Lavalier mic for my projects. So sad. Cheers, Love.
Something to mention is that the plastic on the zoom h5 degrades and gets all sticky. It's pretty awful. The only semi fix i found was to use armor all. Seriously. It's a common problem.
This can indeed be a problem, I've talked about it on the new and updated review that I did a few weeks ago. It's tough to know just how prevalent the issue is, but it does indeed happen.
Brilliant review. I've just received my H5. All the buttons are lovely and clicky apart from the record button. Is this soft so that a click doesn't appear in the track? Or is mine defective?
*I HAVE A QUESTION* So if you use the XLR input to connect a handheld wireless microphone the audio will be mono instead of stereo? Can you connect the Zoom H5 to your DSLR but at the same time connecting an XLR wireless microphone so that way the DSLR can pick up that audio when recording? Does it record in MP3 or WAV? My preference is MP3
Yes, absolutely. You can plug 2 microphones into it, or 4 if you get the modular extension for it. That being said, you can't get phantom power through the modular extension. If you want to be safe, you can go for the Zoom H6, which has 4 inputs by default 👍
@@christianskyes Thank you for your reply! I am technology illiterate. Is this better than purchasing an audio interface such as Scarlett and connecting it to a PC? I decided to buy an xlr mic, which is for sure.
@@msdidemtutoring9623 Yes, because this device doesn't need a PC to run. You can connect an XLR mic to it, and just record. Additionally, the Zoom H5 can be turned into an audio interface by connecting it to a computer via a USB cable 👍
@@christianskyes thank you so much. It is nice to know zoom h5 does not need a PC and it is more versatile. I will prefer to record my guitar playing (some day I hope), so I might need Scarlett in the future. I also need to consider my budget. I will sit down and do some thinking. You've been very helpful. Thanks again.
Hi, very helpful vid on the H5 ! My question if you get this would be if there's any way to power the H5 (or H6 for that matter) with an external usb charger pack like you can with the H1N? Or is pure AA battery only powered ? Thanks.
I was telling my buddy about wanting to upgrade my tascam recorder with something with XLR inputs. On Christmas day I walk outside and there was a Zoom H5. He knew I could accept something that expensive (for us, at least) if he stuck around but either way Im as thankful as I could ever be. Ive been a musician for 18 years and this recorder has come in handy for just about anything and everything. Not to mention, I can be pretty rough on things and this thing is tough. Ive previously owned a Zoom H2, which I loved and a. Tascam DR, which I didn't own long enough to love or dislike. Is the Zoom H5 worth buying in 2021? Well, if you don't have anything that does the same job already than the answer is the Zoom H5 ab-so-fucking-lutely worth buying in 2021.
Hi, if price were the same for the h5 and the h6, which one would you get? And which one would you recommend to a filmmaker? Again, in this scenario the price is the same for both.
They're basically the same, so the H6 as it has more inputs, and as it has the slightly tilted screen. If you mount it on your DSLR rig, it would theoretically make it easier to see what's happening with the audio levels :)
sir its stereo mic better then h4n pro? i want use to record some bluetooth speaker with internal mic and which is better? for my youtube content. thanks and very nice video
What do you think about the device as a music/live performance recording? The four channels can be used multitrack fashion (that is, one at a time, using the four line/mic as four different tracks -I do not think this is the "overdub" function, which would in my view record over the existing track) like the H8? Any thought about this? Thanks, great job
I did mention this in the new review I made, that it can happen. Try speaking to Zoom customer service? I can't promise you anything obviously, as I'm not affiliated with them, but it's worth asking if they're willing to replace the device?
Top tier video here! Wonderful voice! Great Video footage and audio Super video editing, perfect for those that look for visual ques while watching, really spot on Which Portable Recorder do you use? Why would someone not purchase the H8 if it is only $50 more than the H6?? Thank you
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it :D Well, the Zoom H8 has just come out recently, so it might be a better idea to get that one 🤔 I've ordered mine, should get it soon, and I'll review it!
Ok after watching your videos it seems this is a good option. I am thinking about having two mics on the exterior of my car..... Appreciate any help with the set up. Edit... I am wondering if the mic on the device would record while the others do the same... I am thinking I could keep the device in the cabin to create cabin sound to sync up to exhaust and engine intake noise. Thank you!!!
I'd go for the H5. It's not that much more expensive, it has the detachable microphone at the top, and it also has the physical bar preventing you from accidentally changing the levels.
Thank you for your thoughtful and high quality reviews. I just want to ask you which would be a better buy for me, an H4n Pro or H5 if I intend to record sounds from the external environment (i.e., nature, children playing) for integration with instrumental music I write? The H6, unfortunately, is too expensive in my country. Hope you can offer me some advice. Thank you very much.
I'm glad you've enjoyed my reviews! In terms of preamps and sound quality, the H4n Pro, H5 and H6 are basically the same. Not to be confused with the H4n, without the Pro, which is the older model, and much noisier. If you want to record external environments, might as well go with the H4n Pro, as it should be the cheapest of the three. Do bear in mind that with any recorder, you might have some hiss in the audio if you're recording really really quiet ambiences. Best of luck!
Hi Christian, loved your review! I have a question, as an amateur in audio. Can you use something like the Rode Wireless Go 2 via the 3.5 jack input and record in two channels? I want to use my wireless system on a recorder and not on my camera so I have better quality and preamps. Thank you for the help!
Thank you for the flawless review, i’m already bought it, if you don’t mind i’ve a small question ☺️ Do you recommend a xlr mic to use it with zoomH5 with a small budget,
Well ,i m doctor and i made a voice over a media i made myself for my patient and followers in facebook and in the near future i’ll prepare studio for Podcasting
I just bought the zoom H5 and i can say that is not so good device. The X,Y capsule its ok but the xlr/line inputs are not good quality. Huge noise ratio and most important its not a quality(even good) to use is as a sound card - especially on live monitoring of xlr inputs . The reason is that the line output is so low even on 0 db and if you try to level up the xlr/line preamps above level 3 all what you hear is distortion. Let me know if i am wrong and if you have any solution to the distortion problem of line out (with live monitoring of xlr/line inputs)
Someone please help, I cannot select all the recording source at the same time. I want to use the L/R and inputs 1 and 2 at the same time. But it won’t let me. When i press 1 or 2 the L/R buttons turn off… the same thing when I press L/R button the buttons 1 and 2 turn off
Hi there, hope you're doing fine. Would you recommend this mic for home-budget recording of acoustic instruments (like classical guitar)? Amazing videos, you're really raising the bar for review quality here!
Can you recommend the best Zoom recorder to use to record acoustic music (vocals/guitar) and maybe have 4 tracks for overdubs? Something user friendly?
That I don't know. I've pre-ordered my H8 already, and I'll review it once I get my hands on it :) If you don't need it right away, and you're willing to spend the extra money, I'd say the H8 is probably a better option.
I like to say this was a very comprehendible and well done review. If in general I believe I will use 90% of the time only 2 microphones witch make the zoom h5 perfect, cuz the size and the bar in front on the nobs is ideal. how ever in the small chance I need to run 4 mic what will you suggest, to buy the zoom h5 with the extra mic capsule as an add on or just go for the zoom h6, ???? Congratulations for and excellent video and thanks you
I have zoom h5 but wanted to buy h6. Not upgrading though just adding. Planning to use the h5 for podcast and h6 for song covers. Can you recommend doing so or the h5 can handle it all?
The H5 should be able to handle both, depending on how many people you want on your podcast. If it's up to two, then you're fine. You can even extend the inputs to 4, by adding an extension to it, but the issue is that those two inputs can not receive phantom power. If you're only using dynamic mics then you'll be fine, but if you use condensers, and you know you'll have more than two people talking at once, then the H6 is the way to go. In terms of recording cover songs, the H5 would work as well, but the same input issue arrises. If you don't need more than 2 XLR inputs, or if you just plan to use the X/Y capsule, then the H5 is all you need.
Great video!! What hZ do you recommend on the lo-cut filter? We are using it in-doors (typical house sounds), talking only, with an audio technica AT4053b on a boom overhead. Thanks
Normally I would not recommend turning on any built-in filters of effects of any kind. If the recording needs EQ-ing, it's usually best to do it after you record.
Lovely review. I’m focused on stereo recording acoustic instruments and vocals, in outdoor environments where the breeze, water and birds can be heard in the bkgrd. I’d like to keep things simple and not attach more mics, so my question is, “are the included x-y small condenser mics adequate in terms of sensitivity, EQ response curve and signal to noise?” Thank you. JD
Yup, I use a Canon 77D. I have an f/1.8 and f/1.4 lens, but they don't have stabilisation, so I actually use the kit lens that came with the camera. I use the other two lenses for my photography work.
It's actually shot at 1080p 60fps and then slowed down, as it's all handheld (a few clips here and there I use a slider for). It's actually upscaled to 4K, as even though the original footage is 1080p, upscaling it will make it look sharper (due to less compression on UA-cam's end).
Once the edit is done in Premiere at 1080p, I make a copy of the project, I nest the whole thing, and change the Sequence Settings to 4k. I then scale up the nested footage so that it fits perfectly with the new resolution. Once that's done, I export it :)
Thank you for your video. I am currently deciding between the Zoom H5 and H6, I hope you could give me some advice on that. I am planning to use the Zoom to record acoustic guitar music, which means that most of the time I would be using either the in-built mic or only two XLR inputs for mics. I am wondering if the H6 is a better quality audio interface than the H5, if I use the zoom as an audio interface in the future? And if I record the music directly into the Zoom with 2 external mics, is the H6 going to produce a better quality recording than the H5? Thank you for your help.
is this device good for recording engine sounds? like motorbike sound while riding? im not sure which mic would fit the purpose best? are the mics that come with the h5 ok for it?
Yes, though you will get get some hiss. If you want the cleanest recordings with a portable device, you might want to have a look at the Sony PCM-D100, though it's a bit pricier 🤔
Zoom has put out an "updated" zoom h6 called "h6 black". But I didn't get what are the key changes beside the color. The technical specs look the same. Can you confirm it?
From what I've read, you're basically just paying for the cooler matte black. Also, it seems to only come with the X/Y capsule, so you won't be getting the MS one.
Sure, I used the Shure SM7B in that video, and I recorded using a Tascam DR-60DmkII. My more recent setup, which I use for my second channel, SKYES Calm, is this: kit.co/Chris.Skyes/relaxing-audio-recording

@@AlphaEntInc I'm glad you enjoy my content :) In terms of the Rycote kits, it is my understanding that they're all the same, at least for the Zooms. I am so impressed with the quality. Your voice is the most amazing part of the story, the images well paced and calming. Enchanted.
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it :)
Brilliant review. I've just received my H5. All the buttons are lovely and clicky apart from the record button. Is this soft so that a click doesn't appear in the track? Or is mine defective?
This video gave me internal peace! Thank you!
Really glad to hear that Samuel :)
Thank you Tony :D Working at it!

Thank you man! I really love the style of almost every aspect of your approach (LIGHTS, CAMERAS, & AUDIO!)
No worries, glad you found it enjoyable and informative :)
Your content is dope! Continue the great work, people will recognise your skills soon! ❤️
Can the line in record levels be turned down for a hot signal? I record live music direct from an amp on the street. I use H2. It distorts in line in and cannot be turned down to a usable level. I would have to turn the amp volume down to get the record signal to go down. It has no limiter when using line input. Does h5 have a limiter on line in?
your to-the-point, no-nonsense review confirmed that i made the right choice for my needs. thanks for your excellent work and effort.

Hey! If you buy an H5 using his affiliate link, it doesn't cost you extra but gives him a cut...
TL DR:
"Is the Zoom H5 Worth Buying in 2020?"
HELL NO..!!
Here's why:
For me it's not worth it.
For your information,
I put my Zoom H5 inside my electronic drying cabinet, together with all of my lenses and cameras.
Really enjoyed this presentation ,many thanks .
No worries, happy I could help :)
Hello, which one would you suggest zoom h4n pro or zoom h5? Thanks 🙏🏼
Excellent video! Very well done! You deserve a lot more views!
Thanks a lot :)
Great review! Definitely deserves more views for such a high quality production!
Thanks :) Hopefully we'll get there with time. It would also help if I posted more often.
@@christianskyes This is only an issue with older models it seems. And Zoom honors it in manufacturer's warranty and will replace it.
@@divisionoflabor3070 That is actually great to know!
Loving my H5. Of course, I still love my H1n but it's a nice upgrade nonetheless!
Brilliant review. I've just received my H5. All the buttons are lovely and clicky apart from the record button. Is this soft so that a click doesn't appear in the track? Or is mine defective?
*I HAVE A QUESTION*
So if you use the XLR input to connect a handheld wireless microphone the audio will be mono instead of stereo?
Can you connect the Zoom H5 to your DSLR but at the same time connecting an XLR wireless microphone so that way the DSLR can pick up that audio when recording?
Does it record in MP3 or WAV? My preference is MP3
Very well structured, well written and filmed. Great job!
Thanks a lot :)
Hello, thank you for the video. Do you recommend this product for podcasting?
@@msdidemtutoring9623 The H5 has XLR/TRS inputs, so you should be able to plug in guitar cables as well 👍
Hi, very helpful vid on the H5 ! My question if you get this would be if there's any way to power the H5 (or H6 for that matter) with an external usb charger pack like you can with the H1N? Or is pure AA battery only powered ? Thanks.
Cotemplating if you should sell my new ish Tascam DR05x and get this instead. What do you think??
This is such a good review, thanks for making these~
Glad you're enjoying them :)
@@christianskyes Ok, thank you.
Thanks for the video, but, from your title, I thought that you'd do a comparison with the newer recorders.
I am actually working on reviews of the newer versions :)

sir its stereo mic better then h4n pro? i want use to record some bluetooth speaker with internal mic and which is better? for my youtube content. thanks and very nice video
When it comes to the H4n Pro, H5, and H6, they basically all have the same audio quality.
and how about the little h1n? is it significant better? because now im just using h1n. am i need an upgrade? just using internal mic
What do you think about the device as a music/live performance recording? The four channels can be used multitrack fashion (that is, one at a time, using the four line/mic as four different tracks -I do not think this is the "overdub" function, which would in my view record over the existing track) like the H8? Any thought about this? Thanks, great job
So are you saying that the Zoom H5 has better pre amps compared to the H4n Pro?
after a while, the skin of the recorder becomes very sticky and oily...i don't know why but it happened to mine and several of my friends too.
I did mention this in the new review I made, that it can happen. Try speaking to Zoom customer service? I can't promise you anything obviously, as I'm not affiliated with them, but it's worth asking if they're willing to replace the device?
Great Presentation and Narration Voice. .
Glad you liked it 👍

Ok after watching your videos it seems this is a good option.
I am thinking about having two mics on the exterior of my car.....
Appreciate any help with the set up.
Edit... I am wondering if the mic on the device would record while the others do the same... I am thinking I could keep the device in the cabin to create cabin sound to sync up to exhaust and engine intake noise.
Thank you!!!
your smooth unnatural voice hurting me
One more: does H5 really have audio quality advance against H4n Pro? I thought I read somewhere that they have same pre-amps.
Captain Video Blaster yea. Zoom confirmed that.
Can you provide a self sound test
Zoom H4N Pro or Zoom H5 that's the question... What do you think about it?
I'd go for the H5. It's not that much more expensive, it has the detachable microphone at the top, and it also has the physical bar preventing you from accidentally changing the levels.
@@christianskyes thanks for reply. But its possible to fund used H4N Pro at good price. 🤔
Not sure as the performance is better on Zoom H5?
@@christianskyes Hi Skyes Audio, besides those two differences, is there anything else considerably relevant? Thanks
Found a h4n pro @ 90$ is better than found a h5 @ 200$ 👍🏻
Your video is very professional. I really enjoyed it
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :D More to come!
Why do your voice sound so good I started looking around the room when it first came on lol
Ha, cheers!
Thank you for the flawless review, i’m already bought it,
if you don’t mind i’ve a small question ☺️
Do you recommend a xlr mic to use it with zoomH5 with a small budget,
I'm sure you'll love it :) It depends, what do you want to record with it?
Im wondering the same thing! let me know if you find anything that seems a good fit :)
can we use zoom h5 for Facebook live? will he be affected by audio interference??
Hi. What type of interference you're referring to?
@@christianskyes signal interference, I use tascam dr 40x as a USB mic for zoom meeting... but signal interference is very annoying
Should I hold off to get the zoom h8?
That I don't know. I've pre-ordered my H8 already, and I'll review it once I get my hands on it :)
If you don't need it right away, and you're willing to spend the extra money, I'd say the H8 is probably a better option.
Congratulations for and excellent video and thanks you
Very nice tutorial man! :) What settings are you using for your voice in post editing?
Thanks :) Nothing too intense, a little bit of EQ, and a de-esser mainly, as my voice is naturally quite sibilant.
Is it a upgrade to the h4n pro?
Yes, in the sense that this has swappable capsules, whilst the H4n Pro only has the X/Y mics. They both also have 2 x XLR inputs.
The “golden voice of the internet” is back!!! 👍👌🏻
Haha, thanks!
The only other guy on this level of technical asmr is Hugh Brownstone from 3 blind men and an Elephant.
Great Video! Thanks a lot!
Glad it helped!
@@christianskyes thank you very much. Maybe ill just buy the zoom exh-6 for additional 2 xlr input.
@@CavenInToTheWorld No worries :) That's definitely the more affordable option.
I shoot aerial videos and I wanna record the nature outside, zoom h1n or zoom h5 ? which one do you suggest ?
Lovely review. I’m focused on stereo recording acoustic instruments and vocals, in outdoor environments where the breeze, water and birds can be heard in the bkgrd. I’d like to keep things simple and not attach more mics, so my question is, “are the included x-y small condenser mics adequate in terms of sensitivity, EQ response curve and signal to noise?” Thank you. JD
Have you found your answer? tell us
@@roadsurfer502 yep. I purchased the H5 and it’s performed flawlessly. The bigger challenge has been finding true quiet spaces.
Amazing. Thanks!
Do you use a DSLR? ...guessing a 1.4 f-stop? What camera? Thanks!
Yup, I use a Canon 77D. I have an f/1.8 and f/1.4 lens, but they don't have stabilisation, so I actually use the kit lens that came with the camera.
I use the other two lenses for my photography work.
SKYES Audio Shooting 4K 30fps...or?
It's actually shot at 1080p 60fps and then slowed down, as it's all handheld (a few clips here and there I use a slider for). It's actually upscaled to 4K, as even though the original footage is 1080p, upscaling it will make it look sharper (due to less compression on UA-cam's end).
SKYES Audio Upscaling it by using Adobe media encoder?
Once the edit is done in Premiere at 1080p, I make a copy of the project, I nest the whole thing, and change the Sequence Settings to 4k. I then scale up the nested footage so that it fits perfectly with the new resolution.
Once that's done, I export it :)
H4 pro , h5 or H6? Help
Depends, what do you want to use it for?
Do you find that the H5 has a notable hiss when the input gain is set about 4-5?
Thank you for your video. I am currently deciding between the Zoom H5 and H6, I hope you could give me some advice on that. I am planning to use the Zoom to record acoustic guitar music, which means that most of the time I would be using either the in-built mic or only two XLR inputs for mics. I am wondering if the H6 is a better quality audio interface than the H5, if I use the zoom as an audio interface in the future? And if I record the music directly into the Zoom with 2 external mics, is the H6 going to produce a better quality recording than the H5? Thank you for your help.
Do the H5 & H6 have a power supply that's sold separately? So that you can record without batteries.
Some sample audio would have been awesome, but overall, a good review. Thanks!
is this device good for recording engine sounds? like motorbike sound while riding? im not sure which mic would fit the purpose best? are the mics that come with the h5 ok for it?
is zoom good enough for asmr food?in my set up i'll place it about 20-30 cm from me,any insight will help😉

Thank you, I'm glad you like it :)
I purchase this recently and wanted to use for my sound bath meditation but I am struggling, could you assist me with this?
Thank you Christian.
Hi. What's the issue? :)
top quality video and amazing voice!
Great stuff the background music takes away instead of adding imho
Thank you for the feedback :)

Very very nice review on the zoom recorder
Hi, I went to your kit.co link to buy the recording audio kit and I’m only seeing the link to Amazon for the H4 and for the H6. Is there one for the H5 or will either of those fit the H5?
Thanks for any helping, I wanna make sure I buy it with your affiliate link so you get a couple bucks. Great review! Thanks again
@@AlphaEntInc Hi! Which product are you referring to exactly, that's supposed to fit?
@@christianskyes The Rycote Audio Recording Kit for the H5. I see links for the kit for the H4 and a kit for the H6, i was just wondering if you had an affiliate link for the rycote kit for the H5 so I could use that when I buy mine. Thanks for the response, and love the channel.
@@AlphaEntInc I'm glad you enjoy my content :)
In terms of the Rycote kits, it is my understanding that they're all the same, at least for the Zooms.
There shouldn't be any difference in terms of the grip, and I'm pretty sure the windscreens are basically the same size.
I have a Rycote kit for the Zoom H6, but it works with my Zoom H8 🤷♂️
I assume they market them with different names for SEO purposes, but otherwise, it's the same thing.
I can't guarantee this 100%, but this should be the case. I believe I currently don't have a affiliate link for some of them, as they may be out of stock.
If you want to buy the model specifically for your Zoom device, don't worry about the affiliate link, simply buy it whichever way is easier for you :)
I hope this helps 👍
