I feel for Engelbert Humperdinck, he has been one of my favorite singers and entertainers. My wife of 43 years has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's for the last 5 years, she has suffered longer than this, but she has been in a Nursing Home for the last 5 years. At the beginning I went and fed her lunch and then back to feed her dinner. I lived alone, my son and his wife and my daughter live in around Savannah. They were faithful to come up and help me every weekend, it was a 350 mile round trip. they came every weekend and holidays. After my wife had been in the Nursing Home four years, my daughter casually asked me one day, daddy, what do you think about you and Mama coming to live with me in Rincon? Casually, I said, OK. I have been down here a year, we moved my wife down at the same time. She is in a nice Nursing Home. I go feed her lunch and my son and his wife and my daughter take turn feeding her dinner. My son works out of town a lot and some times he is not able to go, but my daughter goes regular. When I walk into her room, she looks at me, I give her a big smile, she will always respond with a beautiful smile. She can't talk, but once in a while she will respond when I tell her, "I Love You", do you Love me? She says "yes", or "Unhun. That makes my day. We laugh and kid around at the table, sometimes she will come up with things like she asked my daughter one day, "Have You Got Any Money?" My daughter said yes, do you need any money? I will buy my Mama anything she want.
Takes me back to the 60s when I fell in love with him and Tom Jones. Loved their singing. Still do. I'm 80 now and a lot of water has run under the bridge but that don't change great voices and their love songs
