  • During the "off-season", I have been working on a form change for my backhand throw in disc golf. However, the journey does not stop there. Here is what I have been doing to get the practical application on the course to relearn my lines, work on shot shaping, and build confidence while playing with new form.

really good vid! i know i struggle with nose angle on release as well but i’d never thought about the angle of my palm on the follow-through affecting that. will keep that in mind next time i hit the field!

Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I had tried everything under the sun. Then we realized something was off with my hand with the follow through& boom. It fixed the nose angle drastically. Before we thought it had to do with my plane in the pull through.

Great work Maya. You, Chase, and I need to get a round in soon. I plan on playing more tournaments next season now that my time on the board is up, for now. Let's go throw soon.

This is a process and takes years not months to perfect. Just keep at it. You're doing great! I see a DMD / Maya Ringgold collab sometime in the future! lol

Try throwing slower speed discs. That is something I learned I had to do until I got the arm speed of the distance driver. The scorch while a great disc might be too fast.

I'm curios, have you thought much about how you initially hold the disc in your form? Do you intentionally hold it with your elbow by your side?
When trying to tweak my power pocket it seemed helpful to hold the disc initially with more of the checkboxes checked that I wanted to have in my power pocket to help repeatedly ingrain the feeling / muscle memories before coming into the power pocket. Such as elbow up and pointing away from body and I just added in scapular protraction with this method instead of actively trying to do it during the power pocket but it started to happen.
Of course if you were to take a pro and have them hold the disc in a bit of a different position initially, it probably wouldn't change anything because their other muscle memory would just override it during the throw to get the disc where they want it, but for form building or rebuilding I've found it to be great!

your backhand reminds me of mine.
technically, it looks correct, but there's no "explosion".
I'm still trying to figure that out.
