I like to use GOOP on the surrounds as well as the dust cap, i apply the ca to the spider landing, then goop to surround landing, drop cone in, press firmly and spay activator on spider. Once held take the subwoooofer gasket and put it on, this holds the surround down to the GOOP great! Reason behind using GOOP on the surround is its much cheaper/ easyer and holds great! Awesome vid ed!
Hey I bought that Diamond Audio subwoofer! Lol. Made a box out of scrap wood and managed to do a 135 @ 40Hz on around 100wrms in my tiny temp. setup in my Aveo. The direct leads were nice. :)
Surround to cone is a tough joint and may never be back to 100%. But you can use "Amazing GOOP" or epoxy to fix that joint. Just make sure it is something that can adhere or bond to rubber.
I've only done one re-cone so I'm no expert, got an 2002 RE XXX and when I re-coned it, as you did (except I did the whole surround at once) the surround moves all the way to the edge of the landing for the surround, which I thought was fine until I put the gasket on and it was riding on the surround as well the mounting screws would cut into the surround slightly asked Fi about this and they explained when you glue the surround down you need to put the gasket on to align the surround correctly
Hi I just wanna say like your video and you really inspire me a lot I fix subs for friends some times and instal systems sometimes but I feel that you are really intelligent and I read every one of your comments lol and people are just immature and I know people ask you questions all the time and its prolly annoying and I know you prolly don't reply to all of them so I just wanna say I think your very smart and I wanna just ask you if
@narcoti yes that is possible, then you just need to recone with a different coil. Where you have to do this depends on what subwoofer you've got. what subwoofer do you have??
Sounds like there may have been an issue or something custom going on. Most woofers are not like that and only use the basket to align the surround. And some surrounds have a solid landing so the holes have to be cut or punched afterwards anyway. Some are tooled with the holes already punched and that would require spinning the cone/surround until they are lined up.
@tacomabanga1986 Its just black CA with a slight rubberization. Bonds well to Foam type surrounds. Have to rip or cut the surround to get it off. I never used any CA that sets up white.
Quick question... i have read many forums regarding fixing the surround on a subwoofer but i have a Phoenix Gold Rsdc 12" Duel 2ohm voice coils capable of 600 watt rms at 2 ohm. When playing the subwoofer noticed odd flapping noise to find out that I blew the butyl rubber surround off some of the cone about 6 inches. What would be the best steps to take to attach the rubber surround to the cone again?
i have a 12 inch kicker cvr do you think if i grabbed a recone kit i would be able to use the basket from the cvr if i got the same size voice coil and would that change the rms in any way could i make it go up or down??? ive never reconed but i have so many blown subs lying around it wont hurt to try
ed i have a question i need to glue a new foam surround to a polypropyene cone and dust cap what glue can i use the will have a strong hold contact cement says it wont work with it ? thanks
ed, do u use a different type of ca glue because mine wouldn't glue the surround, i had to use loctite glue for it to work right, all ca glue did was set up white and come unglued and shimming makes a huge difference if u have surround problems, i had to shim mine to keep vc straight, i dont like tight vc gaps but the subs perform awesome tho lol, keep up the good work mr socket
Mixed emotions im having as i watched as those sub came back to life and i also feel bad because ive trashed a lot of sub's because they where blown dam.But screw it good job on the sub's and the vid.keep it up
hey i got a eclipse sw4200 12" thats blown and i want to recone it but where can i get the kit, how much will it be, and what kind of recone kit should i buy.
hi Mr.Socket! i have a DD 2515 that is rated @ 750W RMS and im pushing it to 1000W RMS, daily. my question is, can i use a 3515 recone kit if i blew off my 2515?
I got a question if you guys dont mind.....I want to recone my subwoofer but the manufacture doesnot make recones so i was searching on the web and found this sing 4 ohm recone kit and my subwoofer is a single 4 ohm will this work
@bassabigdeal oh Thank you, its not about that. A lot of people bash on youtube, unreasonably. I look at all of us car audio guys as a select group that share a common interest and that's the groundwork for friendship. If a lot of people dont like the computer voice, I wont use it again. But a lot of people like my humor and what I add with knowledge so I keep including it. We can all share ideas for vids and audio.
Hi I need kind a professional help , I've got 3A andante "prelude " bi-amplified 3 way speaker but woofer has blown and I don't know which woofer to put 1. Eminence Guitar Legend 4 or 8 ohms? or this kind a woofer it's only for guitars usable freq 45 hz- 3.5 khz 400 W or 2. Martini Wiseman 51 hz to 4 khz 400 W ? help me please if you can which one should i put ?
Silly but serious question. Guy with the glasses I really like your hairstyle. What do you call that? Er like if you go to get your haircut, what do you say to get that style?
@ShowtimeSPL hey man T3is out businnes, so i wonder if your guys have TSNS motor for sale. cuz i have 2 baskets from DC audio , I wany use w/ TSNS motor, please let me know...
i like the video! was a great how-to and even a veteran reconer (like myself) picked up a handy trick or two. i just wish YOU would have done the narration instead of the computer. got a little annoying lol
Great video!!! I have a 10" diamond d4 and I was wondering how much it would cost to recone? It still works but it makes a cracking noise at low volume! Thanks again for a good diy video.
@showtimespl if I got db drive,Memphis, hifonics goliath, etc. That don't have recones where or how do I go about fixing them and psi has turned down every request I submitted
@ShowtimeSPL It does for sure, but i build the recone while reconing the sub now, so it sits for a day or 2 any way......... I always seem to run out of CA lol so i try and use it the least since theres no quick way for me to get more...... I guess I could stock more than 2lbs at a time huh lol :P With the glue I get from jacob (think its the same as yours) its tough to get it off the top landing vs the goop..... Word to the wise, dont get the ca fumes in your eyes BURNS = understatement :)
i've got 3 jl audio 12's in a fiberglass box that are siliconed/colked into the box....does anyone know any way to get them out with-out destroying anything?...
@ShowtimeSPL BTW, I am a professional woofer builder at a factory and never wanted to show a recone vid because of some Trade secrets I may let out. But a bunch of viewers kept asking for one. So whalla! And I couldnt narrate myself that day because the audio got screwed up. that's a behind the scenes secret.

Seeing the video but hearing Mr Hawkins speak made this video so worth watching.

great vid man extremely helpful i hav mojos so i just swap baskets and love the subliminal showtime spl that kept popin up
@carloextreme I am not familiar enough with those woofers to know if parts are compatible.
@narcoti yes that is possible, then you just need to recone with a different coil. Where you have to do this depends on what subwoofer you've got. what subwoofer do you have??

Thanks for being calm.
The voice coil pushes the cone in sequence to the electrical signal fed to it. The cone then vibrates the air molecules and this is sound.
lmfao at the voice..LIKED!! funny and informative.. thats what i like to watch...
always love your vids bro... imformative... yet funny as hell
@tacomabanga1986 Its just black CA with a slight rubberization. Bonds well to Foam type surrounds. Have to rip or cut the surround to get it off.
I never used any CA that sets up white.
@tyoung319 GOOP is good there too. Just takes a while to fully dry and still costs some bit o money. Buy its available in most hardware stores.
The gasket is used to line up the surround? Hmm I've never seen that, can you explain? Which model woofers? I'm curious
I purchased from an industrial supplier. You can try CA Plus, or even hobby shops
Loved the video guys i got a question Can you recone any sub woofer or certain ones
best recone video ever!
Hey is that a hifonics olympus next to the work with a recone kit on top of it?
@emartinez0291 Nope, no Hifonics Woofers there. Just custom woofer parts and a T3 Audio woofer.

Yo bro! what do you recommend for 2 SA-15s? a T1500.1 or a BRZ 2400.1?
So the voice coil makes the cone sound with the waves or im wrong?
i like the video! was a great how-to and even a veteran reconer (like myself) picked up a handy trick or two.
i just wish YOU would have done the narration instead of the computer. got a little annoying lol
what kind of glue do you use?

@patriotpaqtrick, The glue he is using is called CA Glue and the spray is to speed up the drying of the CA Glue.
Must have cost a fortune get Hawking as your narrator!
@LordPS3 thats actually a great idea, thank you
Amazing GOOP will work, or epoxy meant for plastics. Just scratch up the plastic with sandpaper first.
