    Thanks for the video this really helps. One suggestion which seems to be working for me is set the dock to right of the screen so you don't send up triggering the drop on external monitor.

    Even in Ventura Apple hasn't gotten their act together on this

      Yes it's super frustrating. At work my dock jumps around 5-6 times a day. I much prefer macOS to Windows but holy smokes this is bad. Thanks for watching!

    The fix for this is: go to System Settings -> Desktop & Dock -> on the bottom of the settings (on the right-hand side), under Mission Control -> Toggle OFF the "Displays have separate Spaces" switch. Log off and log back in. Problem solved.
    This also solves the problem of having a status bar on the additional monitor.
    Macbook M1 -> Ventura 13.3.1.

      Osimar I appreciate the suggestion but I don't want different spaces... I want dual monitor setup where I'm opening and running different apps on different monitors (with the top menu bar visible on both screens) - basically the default macOS experience on dual monitors... without the dock jumping. But again thanks for the comments!

      @@TheSwitzAutomotive Yeah, I guess with Apple we can't have it all.

      what exactly is meant by "log off"? Do I log out of my Mac by: "choose Apple menu > Log Out.?" Or are you saying i just need to close the Settings window?

    Thanks for your video. This issue was frustrating me to death! Have a large external monitor and my MacBook Pro underneath it so I have the monitors stacked horizontally in the monitor preferences. Finally found a thread from 7 years ago explaining what was happening. I still had to figure out that to move the dock to the big monitor I had to move my cursor to the bottom of the big monitor to the left or right of my MacBook screen as setup in preferences and move it down as you demonstrated. To get it back to my MacBook where I prefer, I move my cursor to the bottom of my MacBook screen as you demonstrated. Decided to search UA-cam to see if I could find anything on it and your video came up. Good job!

      You got it Adam. Yes, this should have been fixed a decade ago. Just have a toggle switch in settings allowing you to always keep the dock on one screen... How Apple can't figure this out is beyond me! Thanks for watching!

    God, thank you for this. I knew about the mouse gesture but couldnt get it to do it consistently. What a horrible OS this is. Just switched from PC to Mac and wow do I regret that decision.

      Ha! Long time Windows user who now enjoys macOS. I still use Win10 and Linux. But macOS is good once you get used to it. This "feature" however, is terrible! Thanks for watching!

    • @lucidhysteria

      Oh man, I'm sad you feel that way! Back in the day I absolutely hated Macs, too... until I had to actually use one for a day at my first job. Everything started to click (like "yes, THIS makes sense - finally, this is how computer should work"), and I've never looked back (still have to use Windows in a virtual machine for certain things at work, and my opinion of it has not improved much since I made the switch). But this is one of those few issues that are very frustrating. For most annoying Apple decisions, there is a simple and easy option in System Prefs to turn it off ("Natural" scrolling, for example - I hate that being the default), but yeah, for some reason this issue persists, and I hope they fix it (the feature itself - summoning the Dock to the bottom of whatever display you're using - actually makes a lot of sense, depending on your setup, and I imagine is quite useful for some people. But NOT having an option to disable it for those of us who don't want that behavior IS baffling and terrible, like The Switz said in his own comment).
      Anyway, I see your comment is only a month old, so I hope you grow to like macOS as you use it more. I know we're all different, but I am consistently impressed and relieved using it as opposed to Windows (aside from the beauty, simplicity, clarity, and consistency of the UI, I also find there is a lot of power and flexibility if you just look for it or try different things out, and for almost every task I want to do, the way to do it on macOS is cleaner and easier than on Windows through keyboard shortcuts or direct drag and drop or gestures or just better UI (I LOVE the Columns view in Finder, for example - so much more efficient for me than digging back and forth through Windows directories, and it's so easy to navigate and do everything without taking my hands off the keyboard)). But ok, I'm getting carried away.
      Just don't give up! There's a reason so many people like me find macOS to be a breath of fresh air :)

    • @BoogieBoogsForever
      @BoogieBoogsForever Рік тому

      Absolutely. So many extra steps you have to take to do things in a Mac.
      I get that some things are different and just have to be learned but other things are just not well thought through.
      But I can't switch as I need it for my job.

    Just found the 2nd video, dock jumping. So if you want to move your dock from 1 monitor to another OR you want to understand why your dock jumps around this is the place. And I have a '94 van (rebuilt) engine (didn't find your channel soon enough).

    mac os with multiple screens is a big pain, I guess they want us to use just the laptop screen/one monitor

    • @TheSwitzAutomotive
      @TheSwitzAutomotive  Рік тому

      On the M1 Macbook Air this is a very real restriction. I bought mine in 2020 as a portable computer to use on my lap (with killer battery life). It does not replace my Mac Mini (hooked up to two monitors). If you want to take a Macbook and hook it up to multiple monitors go with a laptop other than the Macbook Air. Thanks for watching!
