  • In this video, I show you a very simple tool that I made from wire.
The point of this video is to suggest that if you find yourself in a place where a conventional tool won't help you get your job done, then why not make your own tool! It doesn't have to be a fancy or expensive tool; it just has to work for you.
This is certainly not the first time I have made my own tool. I have also taken an existing tool and modified it (often times destructively).

I find as I get older, I have less tolerance for loud noises. Whenever I am in my shop using a loud power tool like the BladeRunner or a shop vac, I wear these earmuffs.

Did you think of putty or a magnet?

I actually thought about both. I thought the magnet wouldn't work for me since there were other magnetic parts nearby. I didn't go with the putty since 1) I didn't have any and 2) I didn't think it would hold onto the washer as well.
The wire clip worked really well. I think I got lucky because the wire I had handy to me was soft enough to bend by hand but stiff enough to stay in the bent shape.
Thanks for your question and for watching.

Thanks for your reply and the video. Glad it worked out for you.
Understood on choices... I was just curious.
These others are just ideas that immediately came to mind. But I am not as experienced as you. I can learn from your attempts at solving the problem.
And I know we just need one tool concept to work out in these situations, not the end all and be all of a robust cost effective product going to market, etc..

Understood. Sometimes (many times) the simple solution is best.

Good message. Sometimes a simple self-made tool can solve the problem or dilemma.
