Hint to anybody struggling: Irregulars have extremely low supply consumption, making them the best unit to use in Africa (As long as you're a nation with bonuses to their strenght, such as Aussa)
Just hold hills in the south, river on the north turn off reinforcements and spam out militia on the south, sometimes on the north if needed, then make 10 width cav get the bigballus cav gen and rush to the ports in the south(the cav is basecly just encirclement and mp) then focus north and gg good to go, after that you get killed by the allies
Defending as ethiopia is easy. Just set infantry one tile back so they entrench and keep milita on frontlines. Give south guy with desert later switch him with hills guy. On north montaneer on start untill you promote him to field general and you win 100% of times.
I wish there would be less zooming on the editing because I like seeing what is going on the whole like when he’s in the focus tree and you can apply see the focus he is clicking and his big head and the whole combat not just small rapid montage of encircle ments
The true hardest challenge...Every time Tommy insults his viewers...he has to reset his political power to zero and/or delete a general/field marshall at random. Just a thought...
Damnit Tommy get your head in the game, those special units use barely any supply, use them! Ethiopia is just hills and mountains, use them to defend! Lastly for god sake choose a good general and Field marshal with the terrain bonuses! However I still luv u dommy have a good day.
I call myself a newb, yet i managed to push italy out of east africa in february 1938. My fist rule is hold gondar = hold ethiopia. As soon as you lose gondar, italy gets a big attack boost on you and you essentially get fucked. The south isnt as important but if you get new troops almost always send them there, since they are gonna reinforce somalia to push you back.
Edit: For the peole that get this far, focus on eliminating somalia first, then take your troops to the north and finish them. Dont rush it either, getting those bonuses from war escalation and the insane focuses will help you a lot.
For me personally pushing Italy never ended well until about mid 1938 when you can finally get positive gun stockpile and you've stacked lots of warfare bonuses. So I would always take the defensive side of the war tree and from memory in the back programming of the game, defensive doctrines on your field marshal and generals still helped you attack. There's a desert fox general I would assign in the south and if I did lose territory there I would swap to the hill expert general and finally put them with the mountaineer who would already be assigned in the north (which is the easiest front to hold). Even if Aussa surrenders to Italy in the event, using their capital as part of the frontline still works well and you get another military factory which is really good. I would recommend trading your one civilian factory for steel to increase your gun production (you'll never finish building anything anyway).Use your research to increase your production as well, guns are key. I also find it good to keep the balance of power in Ethiopia even as going any side too far has too much negatives to me. You'll get random events about warlords and if they offer a military factory or another division I would always take them. After saying all that a few times in 1938 i've been doing really well against Italy and finally pushing back and getting close to the ports when Fascist Italy joins the Democratic Allies 😑. Usually France is part of it too so your trade is cut off and your fully surrounded by the Allies. You can hold pretty well in the mountains around your capital and by this time your army is pretty good for what it is but you'll be holding for ages until eventually Germany or someone else causes WW2 to start at which point the game just gave me a peace event that I had no option but to accept which usually gave Italy 3 of my states. I should state that this is going down the King of Kings route so doing another political route especially maybe addressing the league of nations might work better but....no achievement that way. Would like to see paradox maybe make it so Fascist Italy can't join a faction until they in some way conclude their war with eithopia or are actually fighting a major nation.
@@Lady_Amelia-Eloise Bro anything would be better than the original tree sooo I mean but yeah it is good but at this rate any rework or new tree will be better
I did 2 games as ethiopia and survived both times without restart, getting all the ethiopian achievements in the span of those two games I wouldn't even consider myself a good player and I managed to do it Simply put, Tommy has no patience, Ethiopia is all about careful and calculated strategy; the guy tries rushing them first, for goodness sake You can't fault the DLC for someone who simply doesn't want to play in the optimal way You gotta micro, you gotta move your troops to better defensible positions; you can't just force attack randomly like he did, or even dream of using the battleplan attack Ethiopia was designed to be a challenging playthrough so why would the fact that someone not respecting its difficulty and being impatient fails be a problem of the DLC? @@BIGPIZZABOI Yeah beating the Italians is nice but good luck expanding beyond that. The allies stacks a shit ton of troops on your borders because they hate the player.
Personally, I recommend not even attacking the South. Though they usually only start with a few divisions, the AI loves to send more their quite rapidly, so I would suggest just holding and grinding out the Italians in a war of attrition because Italian industry sucks in the beginning.
this is so easy. just put mountain general in the north and desert general in the south. one single division will use the hills commander general. move both non frontline divisions onto frontline. you can hold both fronts easily. use haile selassie as field marshal once you get him. INSTANT WIN.
I advise disbanding the two mountaineer units and most of your infantry. Train militia instead also swap your leader for the guy with mountaineer. (Make your initial fight in the south with desert fox but)
Not wanting to flex or anything, but I got Italy first try, just by microing and not having speed x5 24/7 - pretty much why Tommy fails continuously, because he doesn't do either of them. He just needs to hold the line and wait for the enemy to attrition and as soon as his stockpile his green, he can push them out, as by this point, you should have enough bonuses for that. He is also not using the mountian general for the mountians and the desert general for the desert which give insane bonuses, but in fact the old guard general who levels even slower...

My personal strategy is placing 10 divisions in the north a bit back so i don’t lose the north focus and pull them back while 12 (hero guy with his division makes it possible) divisions hold the south as good as the can while i micro because the italians inability to attack mutiple targets and instead focusing on the centered one or the one which is easiest to take (most countys they can attack from) and from there i can just wait till o get all the boosts, static warfare and trench warfare
A tip to all who are struggeling, you’r divisions are very sturdy and usually hold out a long time against the italians so take advantage of that and use the right commander like for example the desert specialist is very good in the south and same for the mountain one too but in the north
The only way I won my Ethiopia game was to rush the focus where Haile Selassie leaves, so you can continue in exile and eventually Britain or another country will help take back the country.
I tried the same challenge and the only time I was really really successful at holding them back and stalemating the line (on expert difficulty too) Italy formed the Stresa front and UK/France invaded me. Fuck this game.
