the first time i witnessed any such behaviour was when i was around 19 or 20, and i'd unknowingly befriended the son of a hong kong billionaire. with/to me, he was incredibly warm and kind, and i could tell downright craved my company- he was also very generous, and very appreciative anytime i'd pay for a lunch. and in retrospect, i guess it was entirely due to the fact that i was entirely blind to his wealth, whereas other people maybe would try to use him. i wasn't at all versed in the world of luxury goods, so just saw his porsches as any other car, his patek watches as any other watch, and so on- i just got along with the guy supremely well, especially early on, music (specifically cheesy modern country music) being our common bond. but he also took a liking to what i did professionally in a creative field and sort of shadowed/assisted me for a period. i could eventually tell he was depraved of genuine human contact, and that made me sad. i did observe, however, that with most everyone else, he was incredibly cold and detached, treating them all like an expendable. although he had a girlfriend, who was a great girl and super faithful (not from a rich family- they were highschool sweethearts), he cheated on her every single day with high-end escorts. it was pretty amazing to witness how he could switch on/off his warmth/connection just like that. ultimately, i cut him off because i trusted him to drive home a friend one evening and he kept aggressively making unwanted advances on her in the car, both physical and verbal, and that was the end for me- i really scathed him, though it likely fell on deaf ears, but i know losing me from his life hurt him, at least for a short bit. regardless how close we were, no way in hell was i going to turn a blind eye on what he attempted on someone who was a much closer friend. it was also insane to witness how he went from being strictly anti-drug to, after shadowing me in the industry i worked in, getting into drugs (coke), at least on a surface level to try and get others to like him, as he was always the one buying/sharing the coke- i don't think he actually developed a problem with it and think he just did it socially, like i said, to gain friends. i never did that crap fwiw. anyways, your comment made me recall that, as i really saw such contempt for the first time back then with how he treated others outside of me. but by the same token, i've since, many years later, made another friend who's much older (in his 50's) and a billionaire, yet is one of the most humble, down-to-earth, guys i've ever met. at parties he throws, he pulls up his sleeves and gets to work cleaning up after (despite several staff), isn't afraid to get dirty, loves to have a good time with real everyday people, is super warm and kind-hearted to/with everyone, and so on- he's super genuine and positivity just radiates from him.

@@UnchainedEruption they were “suppressing victims voices” as you put it. Sexual assault crimes had to have a higher probability of winning, 62%, than other crimes before the CPS would take them to trial. They wanted to keep their percentage of successful prosecutions up. They wanted to meet their targets.
This was in the same time period the CPS repeatedly refused to prosecute the men from the Muslim grooming gangs who had raped and trafficked girls in towns all over the country. It was only when a police officer Maggie Oliver from Rochdale retired so she could blow the whistle and tell the press that the CPS finally decided they could prosecute gangs in multiple towns. It stinks.
The CPS knew Al Fayed’s highly paid defence team would run rings around them at every stage making their job harder so just like with Saville they let it slide.
It turns out they decided not to prosecute a second time. If either cases had gone to trial all the women speaking up now would have come forward and Al Fayed would have had the opportunity to defend himself whilst he was alive.

In this particular case, really there is more to say about rich British elites, which surrounded Fayed, made business, let him thrive for so many years, while keeping the cast of silence. Monsters are created by that silence. Otherwise, early in their lives, they would seek medical help or social scrutiny and correct the behaviour.
