These are available at many seed companies - I got the green and the purple yard long beans. They are very good, and take up a lot less room than bush beans and produces more than regular pole beans. I like to cut into shorter sections and sauté them with onions, sliced and cut the onion rings in half so they are the same length as the bean sections. Sauté in butter or coconut oil, with basil, salt, garlic powder. Yum!
I know this is an old video but I’m so happy to have stumbled across your channel. I’m in Waco and I struggle with growing things in this Texas heat. Not being from here originally, it was a hard for me to realize I couldn’t just grow any ole thing like I used to. Absolutely enjoy your videos! Thanks.
I also live in Waco, east of Robinson, on the river. I have sandy loam soil and harvesting my first mid-May. I will be planting more later along with pole Kentucky Wonder.
This was very educational for me. I am growing the long beans for the 1st time because my Aunt put up 75 qt. jars last year and gave me some beans and seeds. They sprouted and grew relatively fast. The blanch and freeze will be my choice. The pest control you suggested will also be my choice. Thanks for your video!
It took me a while to find helpful information about the asparagus beans I'm growing and you really answered all my questions and more. I even noticed ants in that exact spot you talked about. I'm not new to gardening but I am new to growing yard long beans. Great video, thank you!
Central Fl here. Grows fabulous. Ants and aphids tho. I make the borax/ sugar bottles. Really helps. Beans great raw. Canning excess tonight :). Dilly beans!
here is my favorite recipe "Spicy Stir Fried Chinese Long Beans 🎄Asian at Home Holiday Special " . I remember not liking them BECAUSE they are not green beans and now LOVE them for same reason! I chop small pieces 1 inch blanch drain dry and freeze in baggies and happily throw them in hash, soups etc all winter long. A veggie I can get my hubby to eat without him knowing it! They ARE cooked after blanching so don't over cook later.
Hi I am growing long bean or asparagus beans and they are beautiful but no beans yet. Some are 7"-8" tall planted in July because I didn't know what there or what they would look like. I love you information and how you present it. I live in zone 5 so will I have to bring them in the house? We live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and get about 300"-350" of snow a season. Sometimes we still get frost in late June. Thank you! God Bless
Hi there! It takes 70 days or more for most varieties to produce beans. Do you know when your first average frost is? As for bringing them in the house, it may not be worthwhile. They really need full sun and warm temperatures to grow well, otherwise they are likely to be stressed, and this can lead to an increase in pest or disease pressure.
You'll probably never see this comment but another bonus is that the purple long beans and the red ones don't lose their color when they're cooked unlike purple green beans which do lose their color
Just found your channel. Like it. What do you recommend for an organic fungicide on your bean plants. Just curious… I did subscribe. Live in Belton Tx. This drought and heat is crazy. Same here…the secret is shade cloths and I plant a lot of strategically placed Mexican sunflowers for afternoon shade in my 30x50 raised bed. Thanks for your content
Hi! I'm not exactly sure, but if it's a disease then you should see some stress on the leaves too. Often times bean seedlings grow slowly, and don't look like much, but give them a chance to take off 🚀
Fire Ants do not raise aphids. They are not farmer ants. They are predators/ killers of everything. The only thing that eats fire ant colonies successfully is the armadillo, the only true anteater we have north of the border. An armadillo can decimate a fire ant colony in minutes.

First year gardener, zone 8b, planted these and they have done good in the Texas heat so far, also yummy
Nothing better than green beans, no matter which variety! Thanks,
Scottie!
I totally agree!

yellow jackets love the flowers of the long bean. I don't see honey bees pollinating them.
Thanks for the mention of the seed company. I’ve been looking for these long beans.
You're welcome! Best wishes.
This is a great vegetable for beginners. So easy and prolific!
Yes indeed!

also fermented as dilly beans! Yum! Brought a jar to a get together and the host's hubby almost ate the jar by himself! Brings more jars! lol
We found that if they are blanched in boiling water for about 2 minutes then they go great in a green salad.
Yummers✨
I live in Central Florida and these do very good here. It took 1 month to grow a ft then it jumped 3 feet in a week.
Oh yeah, when they are ready to grow they take off! 🚀
Informative video, thanks!
Awesome!! 🙏🏼✨
Keren dan penuh insfirasi
🙏🏼✨
Love it! Keep it up, Scott!
Thanks so much!
Heard these make good pickles too. Might be good fermented too.
Yes!! ✨

Hey Scot
I'm a first time asparagus bean grower and novice gardener. My asparagus bean seedlings have red streaks is this normal or a disease
Hi! I'm not exactly sure, but if it's a disease then you should see some stress on the leaves too. Often times bean seedlings grow slowly, and don't look like much, but give them a chance to take off 🚀
if it's natural feature of the bean then it's a different variety.
Ants mean aphids farm lol
😅
