The Brilliant Design of the Euro
Вставка

- In my personal opinion (feel free to disagree), the Euro is probably one of the best designed currencies in circulation. This is because of its ability for any of the 20+ countries that use it to use it without feeling left out. How does it do this?

So, looking purely from a design standpoint, what is your favorite currency in circulation? Personally, aside from the Euro, I would probably have to give props to the Canadian dollar.
Canadian Dollar then Euro, I'll swap those once we get the Europarm

Have you not seen the Australian dollar? It's polymer and has windows, too, like the Canadian, but it's way more colorful. Honestly, if I could have Euro banknotes with the design of the Aus dollar, but without the Queen and the kangaroos and those things obviously, and with a max denomination of €50 and a minimum of €1, that would be great.

I was confused when I first saw the 200kr. I was like "What the hell is this? Norwegian Monopoly money?" I mean, the way it looks, and the fact they're fairly new and stiff, it looks like currency in a Norwegian economics board game.

As a child I loved it to see where my coins came from; how they had “travelled” e.g. living in Germany and then getting a Spanish, Finnish or Greek Euro
US Quarters actually have different states printed on their tail sides (much like with the Euro coins). I'll often see coins from Oregon, Montana, Arkansas, New York, etc.
As a Finn, I can tell you that knowing the size of the bill/coin you’re holding makes transactions much quicker and easier. You know just from the size and feel whether you’re holding a 5€ bill or a 200€ bill. Same with coins, since the 2€ coin is the biggest, and the 10 cent coin is the smallest, although (I have bot of these in my hands rn) the 5 cent coin is slightly thinner. Don’t know about 1 and 2 cent coins (can’t be bothered to dig up my collection, since we don’t use them in Finland and I’ve gathered them as mempirs. It’s really so small that it’s hardly even monrey), but I believe in most European countries these are the smallest coins by size. Anyway, point is having different-size money makes life so much easier, and not just for blind people. Also, I love you for including the Finnish mark in the video, you won’t see those except in collections and museums.
CrapFactor
That is an exception, not the rule. If you try that in my county, they will most definetely notice it. Also, let’s not forget the fact that you have technically committed fraud, which can land you a good 2-4 years in prison in most European countries.

Njaa, en nyt kyllä jaksa uskoa että markka mitään muuttaisi.
As a Finn, I can tell you that why the fuck would you use cash. Like seriously.

The picture at 0:05 is long outdated. The Baltics are in the Eurozone now and Belarus doesn't have the crazy high inflation anymore, so they use their own currency now.
1:45 Good edit =D
I love the Euro, mostly becouse it's so colorful. I also colect coins from diferent European countries. My favourites are (in no order):
1 Spanish Euro with a Spanish guy.
50 Portugese Cents with a ton of symbols
2 French Euros with a tree and the three words in French: Liberty, Equality and Fetirnity
1 Slovak Euro with the cros that is on the Slovak flag
50 Belgian Cents with a Belgian guy
2 Greek Euros with the famous statue that is throwing a disc
50 Finnish Cents with a lion
2 Netherlandish Euros with queen Beatrix
1 Austrian Euro with Mozart
50 Vatican Cents with a Pope
And my favourite 2 German Euros with the € symbol in the middle and houses, people, a boat, the European bank and a factory around it and the words "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND"
I love the special coins they sometimes mint eg. the 2 € with Mecklemburg Vorpommern and a pretty castle
In my opinion the Finnish 1€ coin is the most beautiful coin there is
@@justsomeghostwithinterneta7296 I agree ... the finnish euros are one of the prettiest euro coins.
I love the Greek 2 euro coin with the owl from the drachne on the back, and the special Belgian 2 euro coin (I don't remember what year) with the stick figure.
Those "guys" are the Kings, and Queens.
I like how rational the currency is, coins are ordered by color (cents, tens of cents and euros) and size, they are consistent and have large enough denominations (looking at you UK and China with your ridiculously low 50L and 100¥) and are colorful (it'd be better if the colors were all primary and secondary ones, I dislike that orange)
Also it's a very strong currency, I wouldn't like to have 100 units of a currency that buys me less than a coffee when it's simpler to base transactions in the unit
Overall, within the major currencies, I think it belongs to my personal top, I still think that coins could be more regular and bills with proportionately volume and plastic cover but I like it nonetheless
💶 The euro 🇪🇺 The European Union ❤️
It's always fun getting change in Europe, and getting to look at the coins, and seeing the different designs for the different countries, while everywhere else it's just boring.
not every country in Europe is in the EU, Norway isnt, Iceland isnt, Switzerland isnt, and those countries that are in the EU not all of them use the euro, I am from Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom and the UK currency is the pound we are still (for no til next year) part of the EU and use the Pound, whilst our neighbours the Republic of Ireland use the euro, Czech Republic Hungary, Poland, Romania Sweden Denmark Bulgaria are all EU members but use their own currencies, and they are all EU members ..
@@PS-ru2ov Ya, I know that, I've been to many of them, and used those currencies. I was just saying in Europe because that is often how people speak about it. Don't assume that everyone else on the internet is an idiot, otherwise you'll just end up seeming really egotistical.

Hello my Austrian brother greentings from Finnish-Austrian empire!
I am from the Eurozone and to be honest I wish our banknotes layout could get some changes and features monuments acoss Europe. I wouldn't get offended at all. That being said, I don't miss my old currency as I like the Euro. I see it as a great attempt to bring people together and turn Europe into an unified country.
It’s actually quite fun! Sometimes you’ll find a random €1 coin on the street and find out it’s from spain or anywhere else. Makes you feel kind of connected and makes you wonder where it first came to be :D
Who filmed the video with the money
Or do you just like long fingernails
His girlfriend did the Euro video
Shirokröte I like long fingernails, I can't have them short
My nails are to hard, so i end up using them lot
I cut them so they don't get to big, and they are always clean
But I can't see how people can have their fingers longer than the nails, it seems so weird for me..
Different sizes aren't only easy if you're blind. It imediatly shows which bill is worth more, even if you're a foreigner and therefor not used to the curency. Dollars just all look the same. I had quite a bit of trouble differenciating them when I was in the US.
Martijn Derese that just shows how dumb you are tbh. There isn t much functionality in haveing different sizes in currency it just increases the production cost and if you are dumb enough to need a different size to diffetentiate them you really should not handle that much money.
@@awcy7141 I assume you never heard of blind people, tourists, visualy impaired people, ... Or do you think they shouldn't be able to buy stuff? That sounds great for the economy.
Martijn Derese yeah my point still stands. Tourists do theyr research before traveling and trust me seeing 5 or 10 on a bill is enough for everyone to know the value. Blind and visualy impaired people are a very, very and I can t stretch enough how small of a minority they are. Now not that they should be excluded but most of the time thy won t and should not use large amounts of cash (regardless of the bill size) and when they have to do so they will have someone to help, again, regardless of the bill size. Functionality wise different size and or color really does not add much but production cost and more error prone bills.
@@awcy7141 yeah, you're right your assertion that different sizes of bills is extremely expensive must be true. That's why all countries who redesign their currency all make them same size and colour. Oh wait they don't. Show me some evidence (that means external sources not more conjectures) before you call people dumb.
The bridges that were made what you have seen in The video are in my city
I'm from Finland and I have been in the US and i have to say that the US coins like quarters , penny's , dimes and nickels do not make sense. and the sizing is an issue as well. and i generally had a hard time understanding the coin system in the US. The euro coin system makes more sense to me but im biased.

The Romanian leu banknote also has a window on every banknote. The “window” also has an imprint onto it. It’s also made out of polymer, just like Canadian Dollars.

1 euro cent coins have different thing on them depending on the place they were minted in
Epic Enter all euro coins have...
Fun fact, the map part on the Euro has Norway on it, despite Norway not being part of the EU. The reason is one part Norway is in a trade union with the EU, and one part the fact Sweden and Finland looks like genitals without Norway. I'm not joking.
The new Europa series notes do have a portrait on them but it's of a mythical character.
Yeah, I really like it when bills have differing colours. And if they differ drastically, even better. Being able to tell them apart easily by colour is good! I haven't experienced having bills of differing sizes, though. But I'm open to the idea of it. Being able to tell the bills by touch is a pretty good option as well.
YOOOOO THOSE NAILS MATE

1:17 Gauss is controversial ?
The back of many euro coins do have famous people
or the brandenburg gatd
But just the Euro coins. Euro coins have all different designs for each nation (which in my opinion, makes euro coins very cool). However, the bills do not have any national symbols. They are promoting everybody's culture and also a culture of a united Europe at the same time.
Who did the artwork on the Federation Credit? Has Paramount actually printed any money as props for any Star Trek movie or series? Or are the images “fan fiction?” And if so, has Paramount authorized the design or complained about it?
Another reason the Euro has different sizes and colors for the bill is so people can tell them apart just by looking at them in a neat pile. In the USA you could easily put 100 Dollar bill at the top and the bottom of the pile and in between a bunch of 1 Dollar bills.

Accually the different sizes are so when bills are stacked on top of eachother you can easily see where your 5 10 and 20 eurobill is. However this only works when you have a clean and welltaken care wallet.

You should take a look at the Rupee note from India. It has the denomination written in 20 different official languages which mostly have their own scripts!
The Eastern Caribbean Dollar! Each note denomination has a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front (It looks just like the one on the Cayman Islands Bill you showed in the video) since most (if not all) territories which use the currency were former British colonies.

The coins are minted in the various countries, as ever they were, with issues from Andorra, Monaco, SanMarino, Vatican City : no one gets left out☆ the Kuna (Croatia ) is 'dobar skroz', all good.
My favorite paper currencies would be the Australian dollar, Norwegian krone, and the Swiss franc (particularly the latest design).
As a European I have real trouble using dollar bills because they all have the same size and color. With euro bills, you just have to look into your wallet and take the bills with the right color (which you can see, because the bills have different sizes) out, but with the dollar I have to take all of them out of my wallet and look for the right bill individually
Exactly. I think dollars are ugly.
The increase in height is stupid, the €50 barely fits without poking out and getting crumbled and anything larger just won't fit. Tge difference in length is a good idea though
the Eurozone is also in the Baltics though, no?
Kazakh Tenge or the Costa Rican pseo. Theyre both insanely pretty.
Though the currency of Costa Rica is actually the colon, I have to agree with you, especially for the colon, with its vibrant colors and animals. I also kind of like how they both have a map of their respective countries.
I also just realized that my 10 euro bill isnt quite new enough to have the Cyrillic "Euro" on it
Wow it’s BILLIANT!!!!!!
I think that best design have Czech Crowns, they look really nice.
Vatican and San Marino euro coins can be sold over face value because are just so rare. So maybe that's one of the reason why they avoided doing the same with notes
There is a portrait on the euro, princess Europa
I would like euro with mikołaj kopernik on one side and polish eagle on second
Among my favorite currencies is the euro, the United States dollar, the Hungarian forint and the Swiss franc.

The best design of a currency is the old Roman one. Why bills, if you can carry real gold with you ?!

You should see the 10000 (dunno what it’s called) bill in Kazakhstan
3:16 10/10 sharpness
The best designed money is the new Australian notes.
They have transparent windows that run from the top to the bottom of the note, the $5, $10, and $50.

Map at the beginning is full of mistakes. For some reason Czechoslovakia is on it, Eurozone is missing Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania (all were in it in 2017), but includes Croatia which is not in Eurozone at the moment (2018). Belarusian ruble is not pegged to Euro. Outside Europe there are missing islands in Japan, weird border in Canada. I guess that there are more mistakes that are less apparent from the first glance.
