Originally, he only started talking to Dewmi because he wanted to get back at Anuhas. But he wasn't ready for everything else that came (and keeps coming) his way with Dewmi. He genuinely cares about her now and that was made quite clear when the 'accident' storyline happened. I guess that's part of the Dewantha charm - nobody, not even Avantha, knows what his feelings are yet. Hopefully their story will unfold into a beautiful love story with a lot of romance and juuust the right amount of angst.
