    I once owned the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary Lens, but when Sigma announced their 60-600mm Sports lens, I grabbed it and sold the Contemporary, and never looked back. The Sigma 60-600mm is very versital offering a good wide-angle to super telephoto and provides better image stabilization than the 150-600mm. I use this Sports lens on my Canon R3/R5 for both daytime sports, wildlife, and general sports photography.

    Humorous detail. I atually ran over my contemporary with my car!! No damage, accept a scratch and a little less click on the lens cap!. Still using it.

    very nice video i also have the sigma 150-600 and 7d mk2 however i have sport version and i can agree both of the lenses are very similar however for the work i do with wildlife i needed more weather sealing and the OS is more stable and it’s slightly sharper at 600 on the sport, i’ve used both of the versions and they are amazing for the money it just depends on the weight and what you are using it for, for me the weight isn’t a issue as i would rather have better build and better OS and weather sealing etc but very nice review keep up the good work love the style of video 👍🏻

    It's a great lens I'm on my second sold the first one when I brought a canon 400 f4 DO. But Primes just ain't for me I like the versatile zoom much more usable, so I just ordered another like new £650
    Have you calibrated the focus of the lens to your body I found the lens was noticeable sharper once calibration was done, This needs to be done on all cameras and lenses to get best out of them wether its new or used.
    good review my friend keep up the good work.

    Had this lenses for years and found it pretty good on my Canon D60. Have neglected it for a good while and since getting my RX10 which I love.
    Found this a very good and informative video for anyone considering this lens.

      I just got away from needing a longern lense. I ended up due to cycling getting a Panasonic TL200 as easy to carry then found restricted after visiting some wildlife havens so got a Sony X10 but now getting back to wildlife will start to use both.

    I used this lens for a Sony A7iii and it perfromed very well. But if you can spend some extra go for the 60-600 Sports from Sigma - a true game changer. But a bit heavier.

    Amazing review and a sigh of relief..... I've just treated myself to a 250d which came with the 75-300 mm canon lens and I think the 18-55.
    I'm so glad because I've just bought the sigma 150-600mm for £794.... and just waiting for it to arrive. Thanks for that, your voice was really clear and information really understandable. I'm new to all this so will defo subscribe despite being an old person.....😅

    if i have the canon r7 with the ref mount can i get a ef to eos r adapter to connect them ?

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  10 днів тому +1

      If you have found a converter that has the right two attachments it should work, but I can't garentee it without having a look at the specific adapter. I also can't tell you about the quality without seeing it but you can use the brand as a guide. Sorry this can't be more helpful but without knowing the product I don't want to falsely inform you :)

    Great review, I was looking to get one of these this week for my A6400+MC11 EF>E Mount adaptor(Sony version is more than double the price) . but I found a Sport version for Canon EF that was cheaper @ £620 for a Mint one. Itching to try it this weekend, would've liked the weight of the C as the S is a Tank! (I thought my 50-500mm was heavy..).

    if your gear can't take a beating you don't need it. my Sigma 150-600 and T7/1500D have been to the beach, in the rain, in the snow, in the peak summer heat, and work perfectly fine. the trick is to clean it up after your day out, it goes right into a food-grade tote with silica gel packets and a USB-powered fan after I wipe it dry.

    I'd not say it's not a metal build lens. Because as far as I know, Sigma makes the zoom extender and focus mechanism entirely out of machined aluminum and they coat it with some black carbon material to increase the toughness of the parts, and the internal casing which holds the whole system together are made out of machined magnesium. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same for all sigma lenses and this one may have slightly different materials, however. This one has 20 glass elements inside, while the sports version has 24 glass elements, the sports also has a metal external casing and all body weather sealing and it's front glass element is 105mm instead of 95mm like this lens is. So most of the extra 900 grams of weight comes from having more and even bigger glass elements, much larger external + internal casing due to the diameter and also weather sealing etc. But that lens you're holding in your hands is not a plastic built lens. It's most important inner elements are made out of metals. (I may be slightly off about the materials they use, but plastics that hold heavy and huge glass elements together and the zoom extender mechanism if they were plastic, they'd snap just after a short while and maybe one or two drops. I have seen quite old, dirty and damaged sigma 150-600c lenses and they all work fine and the structrural integry of this lens is just fine.

    A nice review of a good lens. I used one along with the Tamron 100-400 Di VC for birds and wildlife on a Canon EF mount. To be honest, I was thrilled by both, but the Tamron was substantially lighter (3 vs 4.7 lbs). But when I upgraded to the Canon R7, it suffered from "focus pulsing", which is well described on-line. So I traded both lenses and bought the Canon RF 100-500 zoom, which is L-series glass. With the trade-in value and a 20% off sale here in Canada, I wasn't a lot out of pocket. I know the RF 100-500 is expensive, but I think it's worth it if you can manage the price: Its lighter than either of the lenses I replaced (3 lbs or 1360g), the dual focus motors are fast and accurate, the OIS works well with the R7 IBIS, and the image quality is spectacular even with a bit of extra cropping. Moreover, the weather sealing is better, which makes for less anxiety at the beach 😀

    Unfortunately this lens is not relevant for Canon RF user. Not supported by Canon for the RF. It still works but the keeper rate is low. Great lens if you are still holding on to the old DSLR.

      I hear tell that the eye auto focus is the problem. Spot focus might work better. I was thinking of this lens for my R5 during the eclipse, and have seen a few videos complaining about AF. Eye auto focus doesn't seem to work with my EF 70-200 IS USM that great, either. Wondering if it's because the lens is from the 90's, and old lenses don't work with the Eye AF for some reason.

    • @stevedecker4028
      @stevedecker4028 6 днів тому +1

      Works better on my R10 than it ever did on the 7d, yes it has some focus pulsing issues near minimum focus distance but the majority of the time it works very well including the eye autofocus.
