We say he really burned Adrian here but Adrian still won. He was outmatched physically but no matter how powerful Dr. Manhattan was, Adrian's plan still followed through and the plan was made to look like Manhattan did it.
@@michaelangelo1887 There was no other choice; Ozymandias' victory was preordained. Dr. Manhattan isn't "powerful" as we conventionally understand that term; he can't change the Universe into something it shouldn't be. All events in time are already written, all of Manhattan's actions already done, it's just that he can see it all at once, unlike us. A puppet who can see the strings, just as he says.
There is one he has not got shit on....nobody in the world of rage creation may acknowledge the concept...as even the concept of Satanic Presence does not wish to consort with it
I doubt he's really aware of his own nudity. Originally people gave him clothes to carry around here and there, but he didn't see the point of it and eventually stopped.
Saitama, by the writing of the story he is in, is unbeatable. He is the strongest. The biggest part of one punch man is the growth of the other characters.
The Imaginary Axis what if dr.manhattan is an analogy of consciousness, where his body is our mind and his consciousness lies in a higher dimension; therefore, the writers are saying the same for real life, our bodies can’t examine our higher dimension consciousness.
It’s kind of a shame that It was stated that he moves space around him to teleport rather than just deconstructing/destroying himself and taking particles from another place and reconstructing them. I really like the idea that he was constantly killing Laurie and other people he was teleporting and recreating a copy somewhere else. It would add to his indifference to human life like, your made of the same particles so who cares? 😂
@@kovacthesaggy4014 He absolutely is. Part of depression is fatalism and nihilism. No hope for the future. Doctor Manhattan has no future, literally. No hope for anything, because he already knows how it all goes.
Doesn't Dr. Manhattan's very existence prove that people aren't just particles? That people have a special component that exists beyond fundamental forces?
*i can't prevent the future, to me , it's already happening , so it's too late , always has been , always will be too late* Dr Manhattan, the watchmen .
Dr Manhattan is definitely one of my favorite superhero characters and not because of his power (un)limits. I actually prefer the characters that are more closely relatable to us as human beings. Superheroes like Daredevil, Batman, The Punisher, etc. They are reasonably limited and that creates more suspense for me. As for Dr Manhattan, I think that he's is relatable in a different way. Of course he has god-like power, but he was born human and he struggles with the same existential crises that people do. He feels the way we might feel under his circumstances. Not being able to experience time? That's rough, buddy. No wonder he might be depressed and longing for something more in a multiverse. He represents the paradox of our human drive towards longevity or immortality while also being overwhelmed by eternality. Dr Manhattan also symbolizes our drive to uncover and marvel at mysteries. He was a scientist and tinkerer. He liked to take things apart and see how they work and can be put back together just like we do with objects, stories, and reasoning itself. He is naturally a human being warped by godly power and it shows. I like Dr Manhattan because of the questions his existence begs and the experience one of us might go through in his shoes.
""i can't prevent the future, to me , it's already happening , so it's too late , always has been , always will be too late "" Dr Manhattan, the watchmen .
Dr. Manhattan is a puppet. He is such a sad and tragic character in Watchmen. In the book, he makes no major decisions for himself. His father makes him become a scientist, he accidentally locks himself in the chamber, he is used by the US govt. for war, he unknowingly gets set up by Ozymandias and exiles himself on Mars. My point is.that everything happens to him and he never guides his own life.
You misunderstand Dr. Manhattan. None of us are in control of anything. That is the entire point of his character; to reveal this fact. We have choice but those choices are the result of circumstances that we did not choose and can not control. The factors aren't even fixed, they are inherently probabilistic. Every choice you make sends you careening into the results of other choices, probability, and effects. No one guides their own life, not even Ozymandias.

well the internet is full on contradictory and hypocritical knowledge that cancels its self out kinda like +1-1=0 so for every correct fact on the internet there is probably an incorrect fact meaning that in a sense when you browse the internet you could be losing or gaining power as you either lose or gain knowledge/common sense thus the internet is a gamble full of crazy people.

JaxBlade Hey,Jax,kinda of topic, but if you are caught up with One punch man, could you do a video analysing 3 muscle-heads of S-class-Puri Puri Prisoner,Tanktop Master and Superalloy Darkshine?
Hey, just a theory on another way Manhattan could teleport. Maybe instead of moving the body he's currently using, what if he just 'lets go' of the atoms hold that body together, meaning that body disintegrates and disappears, and instantly makes a new one wherever he wants to be.
He could also just cut and paste himself wherever he wants. Hes essentially a self aware AI within the watchmen computer simulated universe. He however knows he cant escape his simulation but is aware of its nature and if he wanted to could corrupt the simulation and make it no more. All in all, no matter how powerful he is, hes stuck. Like being able to fully control your dreams but still being in a coma.
I feel like this would be better. It reinforces how he's a disembodied consciousness and his growing detachment from humanity. ("This body and and that one contain the same particles, why would I care which is which?")
I think he became like what the writer is, someone who can see every comic every story and can choose what goes on but not as much as the actual writer cause even dr. Manhattan is created by someone.
I'd say he's second to The Presence/One Above All which is more of the writer/Author. Dr Manhattan is more like a proof-reader if I could use that term loosely
I think the reason he stuck around in the dc universe is because since he became Dr Manhattan he's finally not the puppet master anymore. he's also just another puppet(who can see the strings). the new found challenge intrigues him. with characters the can control time and reality as much as he can suddenly the world isnt just a still picture anymore.
Except... a huge part of his character in the original Watchmen was that he couldn't control time. He knew what choices he would make in the future, and their consequences, but could no more change his future than his past.
@@danimalfarm see I thought this also. Wasnt one of his biggest weaknesses was being able to see past present and future simultaneous to each other but had no way to change it. @@silversteve-o68 Its not that he doesn't have the power to change time, he does. but what happens he realizes after changing several timelines (similar to flashpoint) is that for everything you change 10 worse things come into existence that wouldn't have happened if you hadn't interfered. In other words he could change everything if he wanted, but then would be 100% responsible for everything. Its a paradox for sure, but don't confuse his being trapped by his own omnipotence with him not being omnipotent.

Dr. Manhattan is a commentary on absolute power. He is omniscient but is only one being, no matter how powerful he is. He can see a multitude of futures but only one in which Humanity survives and he is free. In Spider Robinson's short story "Five Sight" from his _Callahan's Crosstime Saloon_ anthology, the central character has similar problems. A guy can see the future, but it traps him into a series of events that must happen in order for the future he will-see/sees/saw to come true. The _Dune_ series has Paul Mua'dib get fenced in by his own powers and hero status and how his existence corrodes and corrupts everything he touches. In _Children of Dune_ and _God Emperor of Dune_ , Leto II Atreides used his powers to create hatred and fear because he loves humanity and sees the ruthless Golden Path he needs to walk to save it from extinction. Dr. Manhattan foresaw Ozymandias' long-term plan (including Ozymandias' campaign to discredit him). He acted in a way that limited his choices, locking him into predetermined events. However, he doesn't stop Ozymandias' conspiracy or Rorschach's investigation and exposé - granting them free will and freedom of choice. Ozymandias' horrible crimes do relieve the Cold War started by Dr. Manhattan's appearance, but it could become a world-ending Hot War if Rorshach's journal is published. Dr. Manhattan is now free to leave, maybe becoming god to an Earth of his own making (or a rebirth of a re-imagined version of the destroyed Earth). So he had the power to control events, but it wouldn't have led to his desired outcome. Dr. Manhattan has godlike powers, but cannot save everyone. He can only do a limited number of things at once. Also, he is paralyzed by his limitations. He constantly knows about a multitude of people who need his help at every moment - but who deserves it most? When should he act and when should he ignore pleas for help? Is the crisis event preventable - like a careless accident that harms or kills multiple people? Is it inevitable - like a natural disaster? Or is it eventual and necessary - like a sickly or elderly person succumbing to a fatal heart-attack or an aggressive infection? Also, if heroes are expected to help everyone, what does that do to mundane society's attitude towards disasters and crises? Is it their job to save everyone all the time or is it everybody's job? Do heroes inspire others to act or do they encourage others towards inaction? The superhero bait-and-switch is that Dr. Manhattan, supposedly a mixture of Captain Atom and Martian Manhunter, represents Superman. He is an alien with immense power - why should he care about mundane humans and their concerns? There is a question posited about him in the series - "do you prefer red ants or black ants?" He is more fascinated by a diamond's atomic structure than by the people in his life. He also cannot clearly explain his thoughts, intentions, or actions to humans because of his alien intellect and perspective. Even if he could, it would cause a divergence from his carefully prepared path.
Someone I knew once described "the watchmen" as "dense with layers of social revisionism" and to her each character was roughly representative of an era of recent history (rorsarch as the conservative reactionary 50s, joker the sardonic tough guy of the 70s, Daniel as the sensitive 90s guy) and Manhatten was the newest paradigm of interconnectivity and global consciousness. She was a pretty smart chick.

@@t0xcn253 Well, they were initially going to be based on the Golden Age DC Justice League of America (Batman, Superman, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter), but DC didn't want to sully their characters' brands and public images. It would have deconstructed their Golden Age and Silver Age personas, pointing out and magnifying their flaws. They were later rewritten to be similar to Charlton Comics characters: Mr. A & The Question = Rorschach, The Peacemaker & Yellowjacket = Comedian, Captain Atom = Dr Manhattan, Miss Fury = Silk Spectre, Blue Beetle = Owlman, Thunderbolt (Peter Cannon) = Ozymandias. Mr. A was always a reactionary paranoid with a Manichean outlook and The Question was the less intense version. The Question's friend and partner Blue Beetle was the optimist. Silk Spectre was more like Black Canary than Miss Fury. The elder Black Canary was a tough but mundane human vigilante who trained her mutant daughter to follow in her footsteps by giving her rigorous training in the skills she had to learn the hard way. Silk Spectre I gave her daughter something she never had the chance to do: be a superhero. Silk Spectre II never had to work a mundane job or rely on a man for anything. The Comedian seems on the surface to be like The Peacemaker, a selfless patriot. He is actually more like Yellowjacket, a man who gained his powers from being hurt (stung) and whose body altered itself to protect him from harm (His reaction to a Yellowjacket's sting made him immune to toxins, gave him armored skin, and allowed him to control insects). The more the Comedian gets hurt, the more he withdraws and the more introverted and bitter he becomes. There's also a bit of The Joker's nihilism and Deathstroke's amoral mercenary ethos. His early costume is identical to early Yellowjacket's yellow boilersuit and the final leather costume he wears is a fascist parody of Captain America's (Deathstroke's Marvel Comics Universe reverse-negative). He's a deconstruction of both superheroes and The American Way. He's selfish, corrupt, self-hating and bitter. He's an anti-hero in the sense that he's a literal ANTI-hero who actually opposes and sabotages his fellow heroes in an attempt to drag them all down to his level. He even helped turn Ozymandias into a villain by mockingly calling him 'the smartest man on the cinder?', inspiring Ozymandias to come up with his murderous long-game plan. Dr. Manhattan is kind of like a mix of Captain Atom (an American USAF fighter pilot who became sentient radioactive energy kept inside a metal-foil bodysuit after an "event") and Martian Manhunter (a shape-changing alien who has an inhuman intelligence and powerful mental abilities). Dr. Manhattan is really a thinly-veiled deconstruction of Superman. If you had the power to help one person or group of people in danger or need in a split second, who would you help? Why would you help them over all the others? Should you interfere or should you let people help each other? Why should you care about humanity at all when you barely understand them and have nothing in common with them? Ozymandias seems to be like the mystic action hero Thunderbolt, who used the martial arts and Buddhist meditation to reach his maximum potential. He's actually more like Bronze Age Lex Luthor, an industrialist who seeks to destroy Superman because of his insecurity. Lex Luthor spent his whole life striving to be the best he could be in every way, but Superman effortlessly is better than him at everything BY DEFAULT via his alien physiology. Ozymandias is actually a Nietzschean deconstruction of superheroes. How can ordinary people judge the actions of exceptional or godlike beings (Ubermenschen)? How can you apply conventional morality to their actions, especially when they accomplish a greater good - regardless of how selfish and petty their motivations were?
One point you missed was that Jon Osterman was both a watchmaker and a GENIUS PHYSICIST…meaning that once his consciousness was elevated to a higher plane, he actually understood enough about how the fundamental forces worked to manipulate them effectively; this means that while he’s a wiz at shaping and reshaping matter, he doesn’t have that great an understanding of existential things he can’t pull apart into their constituent parts, like Ethics and Morality; ie, he often has a hard time figuring out WHAT he should do with his phenomenal power; in matters outside of Physics, he’s still just a pretty smart, awkward guy; it’s his greatest weakness…
Theres one thing you got wrong: That we had nothing left to explore if we are the pinnacle of existence. Thats basically the abstract concept of omniscience, which is in itself impossible to achieve. Because even if you know everything, you still cant know if everything you know includes everything that is. Because if there is something which you can not know, cause you cannot perceive it or it is for whatever other reason outside of your realm of comprehension, well, then you would not know it. And if there is nothing that you dont know, you still can not be sure of that, only believe in yourself that you really are, omniscient. So even at the pinnacle of existence existential philosophical questions would still be existing. Also if you are equipped with omnipotent powers, you could literally limit your knowledge, experiences, perspective etc. to once again experience new stuff again, and repeat that for eternity.
Someone gets it. Very similar to the everything has to have intelligent design philosophy. If everything of intelligent design needs a designer, what created the highest form of "intelligent form" and as soon as you muster an answer, you then have to answer who created THAT ONE
Taking the current Death Metal event into account alongside what is discussed in this video, Jon Osterman was also connected to the "connective energy" used to create multiverses (in the DC Overvoid/Omniverse), making that energy the source of Manhattan's power.
Our universe is the true strongest in existence, because we create the universes of comics and films :D The writer of "the one above all" Or the one of "the presence" Are both stronger than them :D
The analogy about tinkering with the old television was spot on perfect. I am always looking for good analogies of higher concepts... and getting a bit meta I'm certain my analogy of his analogy would be terrible.
It's actually not. It's a TERRIBLE analogy. The antenna would be your actual body that broadcasts the signals to your brain. Without your body broadcasting those signals (sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing), your brain can't interpret shit. Your interpretation of your surroundings isn't just beamed into your brain by an outside signal from a 3rd party source. No. YOU ARE THE SOURCE.
Let's be honest here friend. Using a book for that sole purpose is too much of either a financial or time investment. Of course, that depends on the motivations, values, and occupation of the individual. Though I will say an ebook may be a good compromise assuming the price is right.
In recent comics a Jokerfied Batman known as The Batman Who Laughs, was able to completely take over Dr Manhattans body and gain his powers, he proceeded to create an entire evil multiverse. Some of the characters from that multiverse are several evil Supermen and a Lois Lane that stole Superman's powers then killed him along with every hero.

But obviously that would "destroy"/"alter" the other particles or what they supose to be. And well thats what exactly doesnt do. He Simply Bends 3D Space, its actually a pretty common and "easy" thing if ur 4D or beyond. The end of Interstellar is a good example of how that works. ur "everywhere anywhere" because Time is just another Direction. you could Walk (aaaall theoretic Physic here and realy simplyfied) straight and the "time" (as a direction) goes normal if u go back its backwards. whats the other sides? Thats the thing thats 5d and beyond its mutiverse. Basicly going right left or w/e makes the same time but in another parralleluniverse. basicly "another option of it". Simple 4D Objects show how Gravity bending works. Basicly if all 3 dimensions (space) are one line ur able to "walk" freely as in if i walk in that direction im at that position ots exactly as he states it he is "everywhere" he doesnt see stuff like we do. its like a coordinate cross with 4 axes 2 axes are able to do 2 Dimension with 3 lines u can do cubes and with 4? thats just the time factor so he "simply" moves in simplified form, as just putting his (X) on another point in the coordinate system. I hope that was easy reduced (but i think most people researching dr manhattan (as he is not powerwise, but the way he "is") already know it) but i wanted just so people could understand what infact "infinit more power" means.

Massive props for treating mind-body dualism from a scientific or logical context. I'm a Christian and a scientist, and one of the things that bothers me most about modern society is how people assume that science has all the answers and is completely deterministic. It's nice to see people advocating for the idea that science might not have all the answers without falling back on the kinds of dogmatic assumptions that religious people often fall prey to.
Late reply I know, but it is annoying when people think that science has all the answers, but that's usually a strawman argument from a religious person trying to disprove something like the big bang or evolution. But science never claims to know everything, if it did it wouldn't exist because science is literally about discovery.
@@MrHenhen5 that's a good point, I should clarify. What I meant is that people often assume that science is _capable_ of finding any answer, and that if science can't find it, then it doesn't exist. In particular, many people assume that there is no soul or any kind of spiritual reality, simply because it cannot be scientifically measured or discovered. That's why religious people often refer to science itself as a kind of religion, because of the people who hold it to be the only source of truth, and dogmatically defend that claim against any other.

it is actually another way of talking of the imortallity of the soul... Imagine this, if i cut down the electricity out of a tv, does she still shows me channels ... probably not. Same goes for us, the current way to simulate death is with anestetics , you think nothing there for you dont exist... death is oblivion.
Neat. That does make sense, as even if I was to suddenly forget all of my high school experiences, I'd still be a high school graduate. So that actually helped me on a level with answering what consciousness is. The main thing of it is that I would still be me because I have created a construct that is not physical. It's probably just to help facilitate self organization of people. Imagine if nobody self specialized, that'd probably make assignment of labor harder.
There's all sorts of spirituality references in Watchmen, It's pretty obvious Dr. Manhattan is a theory on what happens if you detach from everything physical and feel your entire consciousness: the whole universe. Why else would the experiment that turns him be meant to literally detach everything that is physical?
That explains why Dr. Manhattan chose to interact with and finally enter the DC universe. Because it's a universe where he can change the past, present, and future. It's a universe where he can lose, and thereby a universe where he can actually live, instead of being a watching himself locked in the static continuity of his past, present, and future in the Watchmen universe.
Very interesting look at his character and his abilities. I always enjoy videos where I learn more about abstract subjects. Combined with DC just made it all the more interesting.

Peace be to you! You sir, have gained yet ANOTHER subscriber! This is an AMAZING review and discussion! I find Dr.M one of the most fascinating characters in all of comics. Life and death are such interesting concepts to me. When I declare patients "dead" in the hospital, there is a finality about them (cold body, unresponsive to stimuli, no heart or respiratory sounds, no pulse, flat line EKG, etc.). I immediately talk about the patient in the past or as an object (e.g. "get the body ready for the family to see", "send the body to the mourge", etc.)☠. I often wonder where did that energy go that gave this body consciousness and vitality? Did it dissipate into space😱? Is the person's energy now part of the collective of energy that permeates everything✨? Is the person's 'spirit' hovering around somewhere👻? 🤔Sure, there are religious beliefs🕋⛪🕌🕍 and scientific theories🔬🔭💻🔎 about this. However, I haven't seen anything that says, "Oh THERE is that person's energy (spirit or soul)😇". I wonder if Dr.M is everywhere, everywhen and part of EVERYTHING? And because of his scientific knowledge⌚, he is able to control his powers to increasingly higher degrees. Remember when Ice man from Marvel had his body taken over by Emma Frost (long time ago for you young folks)? She was able to do some INCREDIBLE things and manifest abilities Bobby didn't even know he had. Basically, he was just a kid with power but no knowledge whereas Emma Frost was an accomplished adult with above-average intelligence and ambition (based on Marvel canon). Forgive the Marvel reference. I couldn't think of an alternate DC example. What do you guys think about my Dr.M theory?
I think the energy goes nowhere. It is literally still contained in the body, but the body no longer reacts to its presence. I mean, nothing physically leaves the body when a person dies (other than waste that cannot be retained), their systems just shutdown and never start again. The energy that remains in the body will either aid in its decomposition or will serve as fuel to the fire of the crematoriums. Not sure why people think there has to be some kind of weird supernatural explanation. Those explanations require evidence, which I'm sure you know, considering your profession. The natural explanation satisfies me. I don't know, I just get tired of people's dissatisfaction with boring reality. I don't think it's boring at all.
I like going with the laws of creation. 1 - you exist, if you exist now then you have always existed and will always exist, energy cannot be created or destroyed. 2. The all are the one, the one is the all. 3. you get back what you put out, negative for negative - positive for positive. 4 change is the only constant except for the first 3 laws. So when someone "dies" in your realities you have a body created by your own consciousness and your beliefs for continuity for your self reflection experience because breaking those mirrors will ruin the illusions. The person who was projecting the body changes focus and becomes everything everywhere again. The body is in the imagination of spirit. If we are a body of water that stretches for infinite in every direction we have nothing outside our selves that is relative for distance or travel. we are the centre point of creation and everything within creation. like a computer game we are the centre character in the screen and reality moves around us but our senses give the illusion of movement. everything is projected from the inside out. everything out is vibration, frequency and energy which we constantly manipulate to present ourselves with what we believe.
I suppose that the only true 'Gods', as far as fictional stories are concerned, are the writers. On Deviantart, I've written stories concerning Velma Dinkley and Penny Robinson (of "Lost in Space"), both non-canon but redefining both characters, especially the latter. Another example would be Batman, who was originally conceived as a vigilante/urban legend, then an unofficial ally of Gotham City's law enforcers/scout master (neither the GCPD or Commissioner Gordon in these stories had no problem with him fighting 'super-villains' or child endangerment with his taking Robin under his bat wing to deter the boy from taking justice into his own hands) then to an uneasy alliance with Gordon getting criticizes by both some of his officers and the public for allowing a vigilante to violently do the police's work, even if the results has a positive effect on Gotham City's crime rate), all interpretations reflecting the time and audience's maturity the stories were written by the different 'gods' writing them . When I wrote my novel "Target: Akai-I Refuse to Die", my heroine Akai acknowledges that her reality is being written by 'a mad man who wants to be a writer', which was a little self- etching humor on my part, but in reality a truthful observation on her's. So when Alan Moore created Dr. Manhattan, he was more or less playing God while creating a god, one that was omni-potent while at the same time restricted by the future he could see, or in our reality, by the 'God' (Moore) who created him...
Great video, from what I gather, he's still not all-powerful because he still has to learn. And even if he can manipulate all things, create atoms and multiple universes. He's still one being. His apathy could be his greatest weakness, not having an aim or goal. When you believe that you, the apex predator, the same can become hubris with the advantage; forgetting, that the opposition has nothing to lose.

I think hes "growing up" all over again.
He is just bored of the Universe for he has tried everything there is to try countless times.
well now the man is bored is playing puppetmaster in a much different universe
You misunderstand Dr. Manhattan. None of us are in control of anything. That is the entire point of his character; to reveal this fact. We have choice but those choices are the result of circumstances that we did not choose and can not control. The factors aren't even fixed, they are inherently probabilistic. Every choice you make sends you careening into the results of other choices, probability, and effects. No one guides their own life, not even Ozymandias.

You basically explained god like a religious man would do, no?

Oh. I'unno. Thought we were discussing the power of a writer now.
Love the comment section
This analogy works well enough ( brain = translation matrix plus walkie-talkie and the heart has a similar function as an energy conduit )

A jar of pickles have you considered paper? Like “physics textbook”?
Let's be honest here friend. Using a book for that sole purpose is too much of either a financial or time investment.
Of course, that depends on the motivations, values, and occupation of the individual. Though I will say an ebook may be a good compromise assuming the price is right.
In recent comics a Jokerfied Batman known as The Batman Who Laughs, was able to completely take over Dr Manhattans body and gain his powers, he proceeded to create an entire evil multiverse. Some of the characters from that multiverse are several evil Supermen and a Lois Lane that stole Superman's powers then killed him along with every hero.

Maybe he teleports by letting go of the particals he is currently using and using diffrent particals to make another body
Well that's what teleportations is all about and the way it works in theory for now.
Basicly if all 3 dimensions (space) are one line ur able to "walk" freely as in if i walk in that direction im at that position ots exactly as he states it he is "everywhere" he doesnt see stuff like we do. its like a
coordinate cross with 4 axes 2 axes are able to do 2 Dimension with 3 lines u can do cubes and with 4? thats just the time factor so he "simply" moves in simplified form, as just putting his (X) on another point in the coordinate system.
I hope that was easy reduced (but i think most people researching dr manhattan (as he is not powerwise, but the way he "is") already know it) but i wanted just so people could understand what infact "infinit more power" means.
Doesn't work as that would kill anyone else, and he teleports other people with ease without killing them or altering them.

@@Ruiluth yeah very true, but at the same time what science can or cannot find changes over time.
But yes I see what you mean. I just tell people that people in the dark ages had no way of knowing about atoms, but that didn't mean they didn't exist.

That explains why Dr. Manhattan chose to interact with and finally enter the DC universe. Because it's a universe where he can change the past, present, and future.
I feel the same way about broken clocks.
