Ever considered doing some crazy experiment that would make you go viral? Right now you have a really loyal fan base because you are consistent with quality in your videos but I think if you made something explode you would attract a much wider audience potentially viral even

0:40 I guess I am lucky, I have seen Cherenkov's radiation at Oak Ridge Tennessee. Once I saw the blue flash at a plutonium facility, but fortunately it was just photography LOL Sure got my adrenaline up you better believe!
As for the sphere, great tribute to the sphere! And even more so, the "solids of constant width" totally amazing and fascinating little things aren't they!

For the hemisphere golden ratio thing at 3:50, I’d imagine you’re looking for a practical method that would relate the inner area to the outer. Basically, to visualize, all you need to do is imagine that the shape is hollow and made out of paper. When you bend the inner circle (or “plate”) inward so that it matches the outer layer’s curve, you’ll see that it’s smaller by a noticeable 2x amount. That means there’s a strong relationship between the curve length and the actual length.

The one with bubble inclusions is actually for a garden water feature (Kugel Ball) - meant to be rolling on a film of water in a hole carved in a stone. You may find a spare sphere in a local garden center like I did.

hello Brainiac I was sitting here and it just dawned on me why the shell of a half sphere has a surface area 2 times of the circle. First the circle's surface area is what we start with that can be seen from the top view. Now for the half sphere the shape expands into another dimension. From a side view the circle had zero surface area. But a half sphere does have surface area from the side view. I'm sure you can imagine a half sphere from the side looks like a half circle. So from the top view we have one circle's surface area, from the side view we have a half circle's surface area and another half circle's surface area for the back. This makes a total of 2 of the circle's surface area. One for the top view, and two halfs for the side view including front and back.

I think a cool way to think about the double area concept at 3:30 is that if you look at the round surface from the side you see a half circle. Since its a 3D object there is obviously another half circle shape seen from the opposite side and also a full circle shape when looking directly at the top of the rounded surface. Just think about looking at the object on a graph and viewing it from each axis or rotating 90 degrees for each view. You will see twice as much area on the curved surface as you do on the flat surface.

I was going to comment on this video and realized I already did! Anyhow, when I left my old job last year I took a "crystal ball" with me. It's just glass but it's spherical and mesmerizing. On the way home the sun actually hit the sphere and melted part of my seat. I only noticed it when sitting at a light and saw smoke. Oops! Also, it's dangerous to hold one outside in the sunlight because it will also burn skin. :-o I actually dropped it because of that but it is still intact. I've learned my lesson. ;) Grats on getting many more subs since this video was made.

3:40 There is some sort of constant with the area of a hemisphere within the height from the circular base to the spot perpendicular from the center. A slice taken 10% from the base would have 10% of the total area of the hemisphere, same goes for any other (parallel with base) section 10% of the height.
Another constant is ANY sphere with a round hole n-long drilled through it would have the same volume, ranging from an essentially solid sphere with an infinitesimal hole through it on up to something more like a barrel hoop.
As for a Reason, need to ask Pi, but keep in mind they're Irrational

1:20. Triangle. You can have special 4 sided triangles that roll. but the axis of rotation moves up and down, making them impractical for many applications, such as car wheels, cuz the axel would have to shift up and down. but rolling triangle blocks can be used to move things when you place them underneath.

Excellent video, I have a new respect for the sphere thanks to you.... Yes, your pronunciation of Sphere was correct, and you speak English very well too... Should you ever need any assistance with pronunciation or translation feel free to msg me, I'd be glad to assist you... Google is not always 100%, with regards to translation, but they are the best I've found and have grown to trust them; despite their intrusive ways... I do find Google to be more good than bad, while BING on the other hand, is just BAD any way you look at it... Cheers....

Thanks for the offer. Once in a while I do use some of the opportunities online to hear a word spoken. Being Danish, English isn't always the easiest language to pronunce. I remember once giving up on saying 'Your usual fridge magnet' for a video... My tongue just wouldn't accept it x)

+brainiac75 No worries, I'd be happy to assist you because you seem like the type that would appreciate the assistance. Others tend to think they know it all and would take offense to such an offer... If you like you can email me directly: cybercapri at gmail dot com... Again you English is not that bad and you are very easy to understand unlike others on UA-cam... Cheers...

i love this video! i too share your enthusiasm for spheres and circles so much so in fact that i considered writing a book on it but i don't have good enough writing skills to make that sound interesting! Why is it that a lot of the things we do and in nature are circles? raindrops, stars, planets. Even the way we think and learn, the way we form circles to learn and stuff its fascinating!

Dear Brainiac75 Thank you for the beautiful, amazing & informative videos. One of my favorite subjects in math is volumes & surface areas of solids. The radius of the sphere will be 6.2045537 cm exactly. Keep up the good work. JPP

1:13 i know: the most basic non-spherical symmetrical shape w/ this property is called the reuleaux tetrahedron (google it if you don't know what this is) but it has this property, in fact, there exist many other shapes like this; they are known as solids of constant width.
Edit: i answered the question before he told the answer i already knew this
