Hi Tech! I watched this video while I was feeding my baby, and 2 hours later I went sourcing through tee shirts for the first time at this thrift and found 2 Liquid Blue Grateful Dead Shirts - Screenprint labels - for $6 each. Thank you for the way you teach and taking the time to help Moms like me!
While everyone else is complaining about low ball offers and high thrift store prices, you drop a bomb of useful knowledge that actually helps us get better. Thank you for making the video that only YOU could make. ❤
This video is just what I had been waiting for. A simple, no nonsense tutorial on vintage tees chock full of info but presented in a way that doesn't overwhelm. Tech, you are MAN!!!!
Two good dates to know are Jan. 1, 1994, the effective date for NAFTA, and Oct. 10th, 2000, the effective date for the United States-China Relations Act of 2000. The first date marks the beginning of US textile production moving to Mexico and eventually many other countries. The second date marks the beginning of most of the US textile production moving to China. It should be further noted that many companies continued to manufacture in the US after they could have moved abroad so the fact that it says "Made in the USA" is not a hard and fast rule for dating, whereas "Made in China" is pretty much a hard and fast rule for dating the item to after Oct. 10th, 2000. Another notable exception is that you will see "Made in Korea" on many vintage items, e.g. 1960s-1980s Sears, which I suspect was a byproduct of the Korean War. Cheers, great video on T-shirts! I wish I could find some like those.
Great bit of history. Thanks for sharing. Globalization of US mfg has certainly changed the country in past 30 years. Can’t say it was necessarily for the better.
Fantastic Tech. You explained this better than anyone else. No flashy music or trying to be cool, just getting straight to the point. I feel confident enough to start searching for some vintage Tee's now.
This video is exactly why I have to say.......IN TECH WE TRUST!!!!! This video is true gospel, you put all of the best in one video! You would know down in Florida if I found one of these shirts because I'd be screaming like a teenage girl up here in south dakota and you would hear it. 😂
Have a tie dye Grateful Dead shirt from a Great Dead concert in the 1990s that was never worn. It's buried somewhere in our family home. Would love to find it!!!
After watching your video, I made it a point at the thrift store to look thru the t-shirt section and found a vintage 1993 or 1994 Hanes Beefy- T tag long sleeve never worn or washed. It had Christmas Plaid Sigma Chi lettering patches sewn on the front. It was all single stitching, top, bottom and even the patch lettering. Shirt had storage marks here and there, but for $1.50 I couldn't pass it up, just the education trying to list it was worth it. Only listed for 30. Not sure if high or low...(it's truly an eye of the beholder type item) Just wanted to thank you for the videos as they are educational and very helpful. It was kind of just a Wow kind of moment, like next day after watching the video and I found a 1993 shirt.
One of the bands on the Lollapalooza shirt is Free Kitten. I have a handful of authentic 1993 decals from Lollapalooza and listed the bands that played in the description of my FB Marketplace listing, including Free Kitten. Don't do that. Facebook gave me a strike and took the listing down because I was giving away kittens.
I found a Pink Floyd sundial tshirt that I saw Bieber wearing at a concert. I had no idea but now I learned I might just have a good one. Thanks alot for these videos!
Thank you for breaking it down in an understandable way! Especially for those of us old enough to have lived through those bands Tees the years they were printed.
Where is the Orlando Flea Market? I live close by but there are a few. Thank you so much for being a great teacher Your very thorough and knowledgeable. Greatly thankful. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Thank you very much for responding. I can’t believe I used to live like 10 min from there. I had recently moved from Az to Orlando and I did not know. Rrrr. Well I will be driving some to get there now. lol. I’ve been binge watching your videos and am so excited to finally kick this thing in the butt and get going with growing my business. Ps. If you are on the area again I would love to just hold your t shirts as you pick. 😅😊😂my daughter and I are starting to get into this lovely unsexy grind. 🙏
Found my first Winterland tag over the weekend for a buck. Nothing crazy....just a Poison tour shirt but it was cool to drop into the video a couple days later and hear that it was a solid pickup. Thanks for another awesome video, man. Lightyears ahead of where I was as far as knowing what to look for with this stuff.
I watched this video at the perfect time. I just found a Grateful Dead Ship of Fools - Liquid Blue T with a printed tag. I kinda had a feeling that I didn't strike gold because of that, but I wanted to make sure. I think it's still a worthy flip at $5 bucks. Thanks for all your tips, I'm studying hard!
I am always so impressed with your level of knowledge. You are an amazing person, and I appreciate that you are so open to sharing so much of what you know. Enjoy the 50-year vacation 😊
Love this video - just heard you mention it today on another video so I went back to find it. I just sold a Mosquitohead shirt - until I found it and researched, I had NO IDEA of the value!
Cool video! I found a few cool sports specialties last week at a yardsale and it reminded me of your hat call from the Facebook group! 🤘I love the deep dives and hope you make more in the future thanks for all the tips!
😆So many of those bands played the nightclub I worked at when I was in college. That was so the era I was going to the most concerts in. I didn't really buy tee's. I have some. But I think about if only I had bought tee's when Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and the Beasties played the club!
Tech-can I please buy you a light colored shirt to wear to the flea market?? Those dark colored shirts & no hats are a recipe for heat stroke! We want you to be around for a long long time!!
Killer video. Class was in session and I had a front row seat. Thank you. Question: Besides photos of the licensing on the shirt, do you put anything else in the listing to keep from getting a vero?

Perfect timing for this video as I scored two garbage bags of vintage shirts and military clothing this weekend.
Good ones?
Most from 1991. Batman returns, Simpson, NY Yankees, Dare and a Michael Jordan that comps for $500

Dang, I just found a DMB polo shirt yesterday, glad I watched this, not sure I want to list it now

I just recently sold a reprint of that roller coaster dead shirt. I think it's still worth grabbing some of the modern ones when the price is low.
Some reprints do have some value
Hahaha it just kept getting crazier, well done sir!

Are the mosquitoehead shirts signed?
No they are not
Wow, I had no idea how to tell if shirts like that are good or "fakes". I will be testing my skills rather than just passing them. Thanks!

Do you wash the vintage items before selling? Could that compromise the value?
I wash all pre-owned clothing before listing it. That's the policy

It depends. Some shirts from the 90s or earlier don't have licensing
