Right on, Jose. Thanks for sharing that. This is an immensely valuable tool for sure. I just got one in the mail yesterday, I’m eager to get up in our big oaks and hickories with it in order to get some of these dangerous dead limbs removed. I appreciate your insights
Jim Carroll you are welcome and thank you for the comment. I am so glad that I was able to help you. I am actually in the process of uploading another Captain Hook video right now. Give it a shot let me know what you think.
Thank you Josh, I hope you been watching my latest videos. If not, give em a watch and let me know what you would like to see in the future. Also please share it with other climbers if you think the video was beneficial.
Wow great video my friend !! I want to order a captain to swing to each palm Also, wanted to ask what you are attaching the captains rope to ? Thank you
Hi Jose- Love your videos! I'm primarily a rec. climber- and just picked up the Captain. I'm loving it! I'm just curious if you use the nose 'weight' (the removable bolt) when you're using your hook? Or not? Or do you go back and forth, depending on the situation? (and if so, what determines your decision) Just curious! I dont' see myself doing any traverses greater than 10' at this point in time, and am wondering if I need that weight in there. Is it that significant for setting the angle of the hook on a branch? Thanks for your input!
Thats a great question that I myself have. Itll be up to you to answer it because I havent used it without the weight. In my experience, knowing the characteristics of it, i would imagine that it will just be handle heavy. so the oposite side of the nose will have more weight and it might actually help when releasing from a branch. I dont think it will be less safe. so try it out man. Thanks for a great question!
@@chtclimbing Gotcha. Thanks for your response! I will give it a shot! PS - Have you ever taken a hook to the head (or body), when having to wrestle with retrieving it!? (I learned my lesson the hard way!)
@@judsonkimble thankfully no but i think that its only a matter of time before that happens. lol. and man i feel for ya, that hook will really put a hurting on somebody.
@@chtclimbing Cool. Glad you are staying safe, and have good technique! I was trying to muscle a stuck hook on my first day using it, and it came whipping back at me, and hit the back of my hand. Thought I might have broken something for a second, but it was just a zinger that stung, and passed in a few minutes. :) Lesson learned.
PPS - What length rope do you like to use on yours? I found the 50' from the kit too long. I put on a 25 footer today, but i did it with a double fishermans, and had trouble with the knot jamming in tight crotches. Trying to track down some 9mm with a stitched eye at either 25' or 30'.

Hooks are fun!
hell yeah they are!!
What's the rope grab your using or the best youve found for your hook set up?
the one seen here is the trango cinch. but the best I've used is easily the akimbo.
What is the device on your belt that you are using to capture progress when traversing with your hook? Thanks for your vids!
thats a trango cinch
@@chtclimbing thanks. Looks like it works well.

I attached it to a trango cinch. its basically a belaying device. However, I switched to a double eye and pulley.

Is that the zigzag plus and hows it working out for you?
@Freedom Le , its not the plus just the 2014 remake. I have it hooked up to the chicane right now and wow, I have a lot to say about that set up.
Fast forwarding the video makes it totally useless for those of us trying to learn
sorry beginners error. I uploaded this years ago. appreciate the feedback
Too fast of a video, can't see what your doing half the time
