Don Cheadle has one of the best lines in this movie. Very first scene of his in the MCU as Rhody after the recast is “I’m here. Deal with it” Such a great way to address the recast without addressing the recast
Right up there with Maria Bello's "Honestly, I can say she's a completely different person." when she took over the role of Evelyn O'Connell from Rachel Weisz in The Mummy franchise.
"Are they friends?" Yes sometimes your friends should stand up to you for your own good. Since you made a Hp reference, Such as when Neville stood up to the trio in the first one.
I'm pretty sure almost everyone loves this movie and it was only ever the small minority of people that whined about it not being very good for vaguely stated, and poorly defined reasons.
I liked this movie and I’m not even a Marvel fan. I felt oversaturated by the films before black panther and haven’t watched one since. Yet I still think this movie is great.
I know it's been a month but I have to say, I love Iron Man 2 as well, it's an amazingly well done film. Those who don't like it have a bone to pick with something/someone.
Lowkey one of my favs in the MCU. As close as we ever get to the "Demon in a Bottle" story arc which is one of the best Iron Man stories in the comics. Plus Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer is just perfect.
After this movie came out, people had fan theories that the little kid with the Iron Man mask (played by Jon Favreau's son) was actually a young Peter Parker (Spiderman). Eventually, Jon Favreau retconned the theory as canon.
I like this comment. It didn't make sense the boy would be Peter... but since people wanted it to be so... then they made it so. Ahem... the boy as depicted in the movie isn't the sharpest tool in the shed... therefore it wouldn't be Peter. But yes, now he is. Okay so I'll retcon his motives as a kid standing there with an Iron Man mask.
Yeah, the boy depicted isn't so smart as to build webshooters and lead the science team, because he is a small child. Absolutely no reason to believe that a small child Peter wouldn't act like a child. Hope you don't have any home videos of yourself as a child "Obviously my parents retconned this. That could not be me. I don't act anything like that. I hardly ever pick my nose, and never give wet willies".
Joss Whedon (Avengers movie) is known for handling a large cast very well. A small nit: in the comics Happy was a professional boxer before he became Tony's bodyguard, but he barely held his own against one opponent. I suppose they writers couldn't resist the humor.
The movies don't follow the comics exactly. They generally take basic storylines, then write their own story around it. This movie is a combination of like 5 separate comic stories. For example, Iron Man's first villain was Wong Chu, a North Vietnamese military commandor. Unlike the movie, where his villain was Stane, his former business partner who became Warmonger. He mostly fought communist threats, and random villain if the week type foes.
What surprises people that don't enjoy "superhero" movies, but are fascinated and end up watching the entirety of phase 1: There is actual character depth -and- development. In the beginning of the movie, you summarized Tony Stark, his attitude towards himself and...... keep that in mind for all of the MCU participants.
They typically only see superheros as the shallow cliche, rather than what they actually are. Then they start watching the MCU and realize they aren't that
We also have to remember there used to be the Batman TV show with Adam West. Then there were the Batman movies with Mr Freeze and the like... The Penguin? All of that stuff that used to be DC but then came Iron Man which redefined what a superhero movie could be. Comics fan/writer/director Kevin Smith realized the MCU was doing something different... something right.
@@mannygee005 The Adam West Batman was good for it's time, and furthermore it was aimed for kids. The terrible Batman movies you were referring to were the 2 Joel Schumacher films (Batman Forever, Batman&Robin) which had TwoFace, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, Bane, and Mr. Freeze in them. Before those were the Tim Burton films Batman and Batman Returns which were great and features villians like the Joker and The Penguin. Burton's films were dark which was right for the Batman character but then WB was too stupidly scared and claimed it was "TOO DARK" so they went and have Schumacher make a Batman film with more "color" which ended up biting them in the ass which killed the DC Comics films for 10 years until Nolan's Batman trilogy.
The best way to be sure that it's Sam Rockwell in a movie is to look for any dancing. Brad Pitt eats. Sam Rockwell dances. One of my favorite Rockwell performances is in an indy sci-fi movie called Moon (2009). Really worth checking out.
It is a good one, and I hate that they used it for a speck of comedy by having it fail. Would have been fine if anyone but Rhodey was the one using it. With his military background, he would know that a bunker buster is useless when it isn't used properly.
I'm a bit sad we didn't get more Hammer as a recurring pain in Tony's ass, because Rockwell is SOOO good as a guy who would be successful if he wasn't such a Tony wannabe.
They don't give the element a name in the movie but in the novelization they reveal that it's vibranium an element you will be hearing more of in future Marvel movies
The shield subplot is probably one of my favorites as it helps sets up the Agents of Sheild tv seires that starts after Avengers 1. I would recommend watching it as the first two seasons weave into the mcu movies and then diverge outards but still having nods and refrerences and broader backstory but it still is very good.
This is the first film in which we get introduced to the War Machine, the armor that Rhodey wears. The element that Tony synthesized was vibranium. It's extremely difficult and expensive to do so, and Howard was the only one who had the original atomic diagram for it (that he hid in the diorama for Tony to find). In the comics, Ivan Vanko was the Crimson Dynamo, a Soviet version of Iron Man with a much larger and bulkier suit (as was befitting the portrayal of Russian tech back in the day). For the MCU he was combined with another villain, Whiplash, to become that character in this film. The Ex-Wife also likely works, it just didn't have enough arming time since he fired it from such short range. If it's so destructive, you don't want to be anywhere near it when it goes off, so shooting it at a dude 30 meters away is probably a bad idea, and thus it wouldn't have armed by then.
The moment that I saw Scarjo (Black Widow) come through the ropes in Stark's gym, my first and only thought was, "I want a Black Widow Movie!!!!" and look how long they made me wait. One of my only real criticisms of the Marvel Franchise.
Happy that you enjoyed this one, but # THREE is the best one. Significantly more intricate plot wise, and introduces at least THREE new and unique theme elements -- I don't want to do a "spoiler reveal", so I can just drop oblique hints here, but look out for: depression/ mental illness theme; parentage / adolescent relations theme, as we introduce an adolescent character; and remote activation of Ironman weapons parts by Stark; PLUS a dramatic, tear-jerking, concluding romantic scene, featuring Stark and Pepper, worth the price of admission all by itself!! Can't wait to get your analysis when you see it!! You could be talking for hours!! 😘
@@cteal2018 Technically you may be right in your ranking, as I don't have the familiarity with the entire MCU list that you do, HOWEVER --- how do you explain Shanelle's reaction to IM3, at 39:50 ff., of her recent video of July 17: "Iron Man III (2013): First Time Watching" (stating: "Wholly hell, that was beyond ... that was my favorite, thus far. There's no questions, fer sure"). I was sure she would be impressed, and she was. It was a great watch-along with her, as well!
Hulk isn't a happy happy joy joy character, he's drama, his stories are tragic and sad. Hulk's famous theme song from the 70s tv show is called The Lonely Man, written to make grown men cry. I always wished he would meet The Littlest Hobo (A German shepherd) and they could end every episode with a happy song, Hobo's theme is called "Maybe Tomorrow", as in maybe tomorrow he'll find a forever home.
If you haven't heard it, I'd recommend you listen to the piano version of "Tifa's Theme" from Final Fantasy VII. It carries a lot of the sound that The Lonely Man does. Of course, there's also Suicide is Painless from MASH.
@@NativeNewMexican I love that song Suicide Is Painless, the tv show theme just sounded wrong without the lyrics but I still get it stuck in my head from time to time, along with other classic shows like the Beverly Hillbillies, Brady Bunch, I Dream Of Jeannie, 60s Batman, The Monkees 60s Spiderman and Gilligan's Island themes. I watched far too much television as a child.
@@NativeNewMexican You know what's sad, or maybe cool if you're a tvphile, is that I know the lyrics to 100s of tv shows going back to the 50s and 60s up through the early 90s when they stopped using them, Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air and Friends were among the last, every Norman Lear show, All In The Family, Diff'rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, Good Times, one of my favourites is "Drive" from Hardcastle & McCormick, and if they don't have lyrics I can usually name them in 5 notes or less, Taxi & Mork & Mindy to Dallas & Fantasy Island, the 80s had the best instrumental themes, The A-Team and Airwolf are amazing.
@@ll7868 I once made a parody of the "Monkees" theme. Hey hey We're the Christians. We keep on witnessing around. We're to busy praying, to put anyone down. We go wher we want to. Giving is what we like to do. We're praying, so the devil doesn't get a hold on you.
Fun Fact: Before becoming an actor Mickey Rourke was a boxer, he had an amateur record of 27-3 with 17 KOs, 12 of them consecutive (some people dispute that claim) and a professional record of 6-0 with 2 draws. He coulda been a contendah. Edit: That reminds me, Shanelle should check out The Wrestler.
@@justinrichards7822 I know he did a match about 10 years ago, a year or two after this role, in Russia when he was in his 60s, he won. His appearance changed after a botched facelift.
For some reason, everyone misses the Stark/Vanko connection at the beginning, so don't feel bad. They give the full reveal later but it would be cool to see you pick up on that for when they meet on the racetrack.
True of Winter Soldier, certainly. I think they coasted for Civil War, though, as I find the writing terribly sloppy. Especially as so much hinges on the convenient positioning of two cameras in universe and the fact the world’s greatest spy never asked why an operator who was a “ghost” for seventy years would so casually unmask in front of one. Worst writing in the MCU, as far as I’m concerned.
47:21 I never even thought about this until you mentioned it but all the Iron Man movies are very West Coast centred, until they venture to New York which makes sense as the comics do heavily feature New York as the hub of alot of big Superhero's and companies. Hulk is also more of a West Coast character with Nevada and Las Vegas being two key locations in his stories but the 2008 went more East Coast with New York showing up to the end of that movie. If the movie was an origin story we would've been set in Nevada again. 49:12 I'm kind of the same but I do love me a good complex villain but more fall in the line of morally grey characters. Magneto is a great example who I adore. X-Men 97 has been doing an amazing job at showcasing villains in an amazing light more so than any live action superhero movie has done in the past decade I'd argue. I like the politics and conflicts between factions and that's why The X-Men have always been one of my favourite comic books. At the moment I feel like X-Men 97 and Invincible are the kings of the superhero genre. Cannot recommend these two shows enough.
Whiplash was Iron Man's deadliest enemy, next to the Living Laser. Anton Vanko was the first Crimson Dynamo, Russia's answer to Iron Man. Black Widow was a Russian spy sent to wreck Stark Industries, but when she failed her mission, she defected and joined S.H.I.E.L.D.
I think besides Hulk the MCU did a great job of really focusing on the personalities of the characters. Sometimes that means the villains are so-so, but the movies are still so much fun to watch.
Even though we all knew ScarJo was BlacDow(?), this is NOT how any of this happened in the comics. The MCU is it's own separate universe from the comics. Stark didn't reveal he was Iron Man, he made up the story that Iron Man was Stark's personal bodyguard. When Tony reveled that he was Iron Man at the end of the first movie, that shocked just about every comic fan.
He went public in the comics too but like i think the shock was it hapoening right away but that was for sure for the best to make him different from people like spider man
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 his delivery was an ad-lib, not the decision to reveal his identity. The script already called for him to let the cat out of the bag during the press conference. RDJ just came up with that line, making it short and sweet.
Initially, the filmmakers had shot the scene with Tony Stark saying a more traditional line, where he was going to deny being Iron Man when asked by the press. However, during post-production, the director Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark, came up with the idea to change the line to "I am Iron Man" as a way to subvert the typical superhero movie trope of secret identities. The decision to change the line to "I am Iron Man" was made after the principal photography had wrapped, and the scene was reshot to include this now-famous line.
Had to do some research... "Tony Stark's New Element (Symbol: NE), unofficially known as Badassium, was researched and theorized by Howard Stark, and later synthesized by Tony Stark. It was theorized as a replacement for the palladium core in Tony's Arc Reactor, which had been poisoning him."
Senator Stern is played by Garry Shandling, former standup comedian/actor who did a lot of his work in the 80s and 90s. If you ever get a chance, he was the main character in an HBO series called The Larry Sanders Show which centered around a late night talk show and its staff...its really funny and mostly uncensored as it was an HBO product.
One thing they only hinted at but some people didn't realize is rhody was "nice" and didn't really take the suit. Tony was getting his affairs in order. Gave the co to pepper & iron man to his friend. He couldn't even turn it on without Tony's authorization. So he managed to give it to him in his own dysfunctional way.
God damn Pepper's reaction to Natasha flipping Happy makes me smile every time! Watching it through again with you it was a fun time. It's not the strongest movie in the MCU, but it was an enjoyable ride. It might have helped that it followed up The Incredible Hulk. I'm getting excited to see how it comes together again with The Avengers!
I was underwhelmed by this movie, thinking the villain wasn't very interesting, and the stakes weren't that high. But you reminded me that the most interesting thing about Iron Man is his character - the flaws, the growth, and the relationship to other characters - and in that respect, this movie perfectly fits into Tony's MCU's arc.
We got chills too. That hammer was a money shot. Thor was probably the hardest of Phase One to pull off. Iron Man is a tech fantasy so actually pretty easy. Captain America just needs an actor who can handle that level of sincerity and heart. Hulk has been successfully adapted for 30+ years at this point. Spider-Man is the franchise. Making a god that actually functions IN a universe with the rest of them is really challenging.
When Nat said "I do whatever with who(m)ever...", Tony decided he wanted to put on the robot suits with his buddy and f* some sh* up. Pretending to be out of control was to incite Rhodey to put on the mark II and the fight was a tutorial on how to use it. When Tony said "if you want it, take it" it was a literal invitation. The devious bastard found a way to take care of everything without letting on about his troubles.
I love that Justin Hammer is hitting on the reporter (Leslie Bibb) from the first film and she is thinly hiding her disgust with him. Lol. That is Sam Rockwell's long time girlfriend in real life. Just amuses me that interaction. Paul Bettany (the voice of JARVIS) shares a connection with another actress who will soon join the MCU.
21:42 Rhodey basically took the suit to protect Tony. He saw how destructive Tony was being and felt it was better for a friend to take it than some lackey taking it. You see how protective Rhodey is of the suit by taking the arc reactor out before Hammer got it. I would love to see this play out in court since Tony’s suits are trademarked especially with Hammer using the suit at the expo to promote his company. 35:29 and a great part as well. He put himself in the same scene as Scarlett Johansson changing clothes. 37:08 hearing that gave me a thought of an awesome scene with Deadpool. Tony is away and Deadpool finds his way into the Hall of Armor and plays dress up with all of Iron Man’s suits. Even mix and matches items on the suits.
You have to see the MCU as a long epic novel with each movie being a chapter, they don't end when the bad guy is caught, they continue building and growing, a Part 2 is just a continuation of his origins, Tony is still learning how to be a hero and once he does that he has to learn how to work with a team and be a leader, like evolution his and everyone else's origins are still going on. Think of this movie as part of the origins of The Avengers team as a whole, each solo movie is like their audition to be recruited onto the team.
A lot of people hate on this movie, but I've always loved it. Most people seem to love Iron Man 3, but that one didn't work for me. Keep going with these!
Jon Favreau and RDJ are 1000% responsible for setting the tone for the Marvel MCU. Hulk felt very much like a one-off and is not similar in tone to the rest. The first appearance of Thor also has a very different feel, it was done by Kenneth Branaugh and has a much more Shakespearean feel. But they step away from that, thank God. The humor in these movies is an iconic choice and one that makes the Marvel movies infinitely better than the DC movies (Superman, Aquaman, Batman). You will be amazed by how interconnected the movies are - the references and callbacks are SO fantastic.
5:34 I remember an alternate or teaser for the Iron Man entrance with Pepper in the plane too. She lays a huge kiss on Iron Man's helmet. Then tosses it out the back so Tony has to dive after it and catch it so he can complete the armor to power the jets for landing.
“That kid was Peter Parker” is a fan theory that the MCU production team decided to not deny, and later run with in some of the publicity stuff produced, but I don’t think it’s ever been confirmed in any of the actual films.
There were a few lines for the audience. "Oh it's good to be back". The phoenix metaphor (RDJ's career was NOT doing well before Iron Man). And my favorite by Rhodey, "Yeah, it's me. I'm here. Get over it" as there was a LOT of pushback when Terrance Howard was replaced. I think Don killed it, myself.
So excited to see you on this journey Shanelle. All of us await the emotional rollercoaster ride you are in for. Try to insulate yourself from spoilers. Enjoy the ride.
The birthday DJ is DJ AM formerly of crazytown. He was a former drug addict who got clean. He was in the plane crash with Travis Barker that killed the crew and burned both of them severely. A year later, he filmed this scene. The pain killers he was put on were similar to his addiction drug, and he relapsed and ODed in 2009 before the film was rekeased. The film is dedicated to his memory.
The MCU does follow the comics when it wants to, but they pick and choose and change certain things to build tighter story arcs (and dump the more embarrassing or meaningless junk). In the comics, Black Widow started out as an Iron Man _villain,_ because, you know, it was Cold War Days. She would team up with Hawkeye (who we'll see briefly in _Thor_ before he gets into the mainstream action) against Tony before they joined the good guys. In the MCU they're already SHIELD agents. (Edit to add: Even Ivan Vanko is a mashup of two Iron Man foes, Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo.)
The villain from this film, Ivan Vankoff, is an MCU combination of 2 Iron Man villains from the comics--Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo, the latter a Soviet response to Iron Man.
I never noticed it when I first saw the movie, but someone pointed out that the Hammer Industries' "ex wife" was stated to be a kinetic kill weapon, and so there was almost no way that it would work at that distance, because it did not have enough time to accelerate to a high enough speed to be effective...
So I heard Roger Corman passed away last night. Roger Corman was a legendary filmmaker, king of the B-movies, and launched so many careers. So yeah, definitely, I gotta recommend a movie to honor his passing. There are honestly so many horror movies I could choose from, but I think it really comes down to one choice: One of his Edgar Allan Poe movies. His Edgar Allan Poe are celebrated and regarded as some of Roger Corman's best work, and for good reason. Roger Corman tried his best to adapt the Poe stories while also being original and paying tribute to Poe. They're gothic movies dripping with atmosphere. If I had to suggest any of them, I would recommend either the 1960 movie House of Usher or the 1964 movie The Masque of the Red Death, if that's OKay? Those are the two best of the Edgar Allan Poe series. It'd be another reason to react to them. I think it'd make for a fun reaction 🙂
Damn, Roger Corman, the legend himself. He knew how to squeeze everything out of the small things he had to work with, and sometimes um...."borrowed" from other productions going on. RIP.
"Is it agreed upon that Jon Favreau makes the best Marvel movies? I really can't see me liking anyone better." Oh, Shanelle... You just wait. Lord knows I can point to any number of given MCU movies, but in name alone, the four movies that The Russo Brothers make are just on a whole other level.
40:22 Notice that the newsreel that on Tony's display at this moment is the same newsreel from "The Incredible Hulk"? Showing where this fits in the timeline.
One reason mcu films are always exciting is because they always build up all the characters in the movies. And there are often multiple heroes in a movie that is titled by just one hero. So as the main character you expect iron man to survive, but who knows about black widow and rhodey and pepper (obvs they survived but who knows at the time)
the monitor at the end where Tony is meeting with Nick Fury again is a new story on the school rampage from The Incredible Hulk. so based on that the timeline of things is a bit clearer- this movie & Hulk take place at around the same time.
Arrggghh! Everybody's favourite line after Tony first meets Black Widow (who, BTW, is already an employee of Nick Fury and is spying on Stark) and she's walking away and he says to Pepper: "I want one!" like a kid seeing a toy for the first time.
Girl, I gotta say, it's so excited seeing you getting excited about these movies. It just reminds me of how it felt when the MCU first started. Even if the MCU is not this good anymore, watching it all up to Endgame (and to some extend up to No Way Home, if you watch the Spider-Man movies), was an amazing experience.
I had no idea that Scar Jo was Black Widow until the donut shop scene. Lol My biggest complaint is they never paid off Hammer's threat to Peppee. I wish they had brought him back somehow.
I never understood the hate for this one. I always thought it was great! Justin Hammer is actually one of my favorite parts. Sam Rockwell played him like an obnoxious twerpy Owen Wilson. Technically, the new element Tony created was vibranium. I think they changed it, but I still keep that as canon in my head. That he created it independently since almost nobody else knew it existed.
24:22 - And works in nicely with all that peppering of the story elements you mentioned a moment ago. This is also what David Lynch does: spoon feeds the story to you, one tiny little bit at a time.
The theory is he doesn't like to he handed stuff because in the first film, the last thing he was handed were the pictures showing his company was double dealing weapons to bad guys and that Obadiah was the one who was behind everything.
No, Tony was putting his affairs in order and speed running his bucket list. Including things that just randomly occurred to him like, "I wanna race in the Grand Prix."
The exploding globe was in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York, the globe is called the Unisphere and has been there since the 1939 World's Fair. 17:55 how did you get arc reactor from that? 😅 they literally said bird the one Ivan was drinking with in the beginning.. and he doesn't need Tony's mind to create his own arc reactor as we saw in the beginning 😬 great reaction though! 👍👍
Watching the "Thor" franchise and the "Avengers" franchise might change your mind about villains. Just saying. Enjoy this awesome ride! It just gets better and better!
Most of the time, Shan is on top of things, making keen observations, making commentary. Then... sometimes a big, glowing neon sign just goes whooosh over her head. Don't change, Shan-Shan~
ScarJo's character, Agent Natasha Romanoff, wasn't becoming the Black Widow, she already was since "Black Widow" was the name of a type of female spy created by the KGB. Romanoff had already defected to SHIELD and was undercover at Stark Industries as "Natalie Rushman from Legal." In the comics, she was still a KGB agent when she first tried industrial espionage and sabatauge at Stark Industries. Her flirting with Stark is part of her spycraft--to use her sexuality as a weapon to gain information, leverage, etc.
The Black Widow "pose" is just the act of planting herself and dissipating momentum and angular momentum with the upper portion of her mass. You gotta stop moving somehow.
They made what was called one shots that they put on the Blu-ray discs I think.. Should check out the one titled, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer. It is available on UA-cam... Clark Gregg, Agent Coulson thought when he had a bit part in the first IronMan that his scenes would probably be cut, then he returns in IronMan2, he asks why is my character going to New Mexico? He was told, they didn't tell you, you are going to be in the Thor movie.
Howard Stark wasn’t talking about world peace with a weapon. He was talking about world peace through free energy for the world.
Good to know.

The beauty of having the threads of shield is that it makes essentially all of phase 1 really Act 1 of a gigantic continuous story.
That’s a good point about the ex-wife
@@TedinCalgary1952 we must have watched different movies, I have 3 way down the MCU list near Thor 2 and Captain Marvel.
What ever you do, don’t make him angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.
@@ll7868 I once made a parody of the "Monkees" theme.

My favorite Mickey Rourke movie, by far, is "Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man."
Please correct me if I'm wrong, didn't he try boxing later on, too, that's kinda how his appearance started to change?
@@justinrichards7822 I know he did a match about 10 years ago, a year or two after this role, in Russia when he was in his 60s, he won. His appearance changed after a botched facelift.
Ì think she might relate to "Fighting with my family" as the main character is a woman. Minor spoiler, it's about her dream.
Not domestic abuse.
For some reason, everyone misses the Stark/Vanko connection at the beginning, so don't feel bad. They give the full reveal later but it would be cool to see you pick up on that for when they meet on the racetrack.
Shanelle: can't see me liking anyone better than Favreau
Russo Brothers: Hold our beer.
You beat me to it. lol.
Gunn on Guardians Coogler on black Panther. Whedon on the first avengers Waitihti (sp) on Thor Ragnarok. There’s so much more
True of Winter Soldier, certainly.
Ah… a caveat. Worst writing UNTIL Secret Invasion or maybe She-Hulk.
@@qjinx1 Waititi? Hes a joke compared to what Favreau did with Iron Man and what Russos did with the Cap movies
You keep talking about Rhodes being bad but he's not. He's military and as such he has priorities that can override personal allegiances.
Military people are bad
I think besides Hulk the MCU did a great job of really focusing on the personalities of the characters. Sometimes that means the villains are so-so, but the movies are still so much fun to watch.
Even though we all knew ScarJo was BlacDow(?), this is NOT how any of this happened in the comics. The MCU is it's own separate universe from the comics. Stark didn't reveal he was Iron Man, he made up the story that Iron Man was Stark's personal bodyguard. When Tony reveled that he was Iron Man at the end of the first movie, that shocked just about every comic fan.
Because it came from RDJ and not the writers.😂
Who the heck is BlackDow? Black Widow.
There's no funnier line in an MCU movie than "you look like two seals fighting over a grape".
I’m so glad to vicariously watch these for the first time again with you
Had to do some research... "Tony Stark's New Element (Symbol: NE), unofficially known as Badassium, was researched and theorized by Howard Stark, and later synthesized by Tony Stark. It was theorized as a replacement for the palladium core in Tony's Arc Reactor, which had been poisoning him."
36:56 - “you guys, we’re not just fighting one villain, we’re fighting an army of drones!”
…whelp, glad you like that-it’s how like 78% of these end
Shanelle, please don't wait so long for the next one! 🖤🌹🖤🧛
29:53 The disrespect... I'm not forgiving Tony for that one.
11:36 She _was_ originally an Iron Man villain, so it does make sense for her to turm up here.
The ending with Gary 😂 watching his show way back when one of my favorite parts in this one😂Awesome show 👏 Keep up the terrific work 👌 👏 👍 😀
The birthday DJ is DJ AM formerly of crazytown.
Next up should be the short film, "A funny thing happened on the way to Thor's Hammer"
11:33 - Nah, that movie has an origin story of its own. This might be the origin of Scarlet's involvement with Marvel.
29:19
Jarvis: "Unfortunately it's impossible to synthesize."
Tony:"Challenge accepted."
Death Race 2000
Damn, Roger Corman, the legend himself. He knew how to squeeze everything out of the small things he had to work with, and sometimes um...."borrowed" from other productions going on. RIP.
"Is it agreed upon that Jon Favreau makes the best Marvel movies? I really can't see me liking anyone better."
Oh, Shanelle... You just wait. Lord knows I can point to any number of given MCU movies, but in name alone, the four movies that The Russo Brothers make are just on a whole other level.
Came here to say this.
Why would she say something so stupid? She's like, only 2 movies in.
@@the-NightStar - For real. Some of her early MCU comments so far are really jumping the gun.
40:22 Notice that the newsreel that on Tony's display at this moment is the same newsreel from "The Incredible Hulk"? Showing where this fits in the timeline.
30:27 - I had my first full-on nerdgasm when I realized what Tony was doing here. He's SYNTHESIZING VIBRANIUM in his GARAGE!!
One reason mcu films are always exciting is because they always build up all the characters in the movies. And there are often multiple heroes in a movie that is titled by just one hero. So as the main character you expect iron man to survive, but who knows about black widow and rhodey and pepper (obvs they survived but who knows at the time)
You will be introduced to a villain in "Thor" that I believe you won't find boring at all.
Shanelle: "What a superhero, what a movie star"
Me: "What a dick."
the monitor at the end where Tony is meeting with Nick Fury again is a new story on the school rampage from The Incredible Hulk. so based on that the timeline of things is a bit clearer- this movie & Hulk take place at around the same time.
Lol
My biggest complaint is they never paid off Hammer's threat to Peppee. I wish they had brought him back somehow.
37:04 "time to make the chimichangas" when I tell you I subscribed instantly..
6:53 - If it wasn't I must say Larry King sure does look a lot like Stan Lee when he grows out his mustache! 🤪
I already love that you're stoked about watching this. Let's goooo..
Yes, Senator Stern was portrayed by the late Gary Shandling. Rest in peace, Gary.
The final scene on the roof of the apartment building was filmed on the roof of the building John Favreau used to live in.
Have you seen the Movie "Chef?" John Favreau little drama. A couple of MARVELous cameos.
No, Tony was putting his affairs in order and speed running his bucket list. Including things that just randomly occurred to him like, "I wanna race in the Grand Prix."
I forgot how fun the early MCU stuff is. Some really good stuff coming up, and some okay stuff. I look forward to seeing more!
Glad you liked this one! Iron Man 3 doesn't get talked about so much but I think it's super underappreciated ^_^
I personally love this movie, as it features my first hometown, Flushing, NY.
Needed some Shanelle. The live is to far away. You should get a package tomorrow.
The exploding globe was in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York, the globe is called the Unisphere and has been there since the 1939 World's Fair. C'mon, Shan, you should have known that, you let it slip right past. It's also where the final battle between Agents K & J and the giant alien cockroach takes place in Men In Black.
The is a arc in the comics called "Demon in a Bottle" which address Tony's alcoholism.
17:55 how did you get arc reactor from that? 😅 they literally said bird the one Ivan was drinking with in the beginning.. and he doesn't need Tony's mind to create his own arc reactor as we saw in the beginning 😬 great reaction though! 👍👍
7:59 - He sorta giving off that vibe.
Watching the "Thor" franchise and the "Avengers" franchise might change your mind about villains. Just saying. Enjoy this awesome ride! It just gets better and better!
20:42 - Yeah, I get what you mean. Little variety here and there adds a little spice to it.
I am REALLY enjoying how much you are enjoying these movies. Thank you for sharing!
I liked this one out of all the Ironman movies the best. All because of Justin Hammer. Sam Rockwell is so awesome.
Most of the time, Shan is on top of things, making keen observations, making commentary. Then... sometimes a big, glowing neon sign just goes whooosh over her head. Don't change, Shan-Shan~
This movie, like a lot of Marvel movies is also an origin story for other characters who will eventually become major heroes in the future.
Nice reaction.I really enjoyed this movie too. Loved relationships between the characters especially Tony and Pepper and Natasha.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Definitely the best Iron Man movie!
Fun fact, retroactively, the kid in the Iron Man mask at Stark Expo was Peter Parker.
it's rumored that the little boy with the Iron Man mask that Tony saved was none other than a young Peter Parker.
Speaking of Mickey Rourke, Rumblefish is on TCM this month. What a difference 27 years made.
