As pilots go, it’s a good set-up for the series premise. I don’t recall my initial first impressions; I just remember at the time that it was something new after TNG ended, and I watched both Voyager and DS9 religiously. Looking back on VOY, I feel like it took a bit to find its footing and only got better as the series progressed. I definitely agree about the character assessments. I always found Tuvok to be annoyed and grumpy…like, all the time. But after a while, I just got used to him being that way. It always felt like Tuvok was tolerating Neelix being on board the ship, but harboring this unspoken annoyance being in the same room as him. At the time, I remember just fawning over Jennifer Lien as Kes. Yeah, her pixie cut was a mess, but I loved it when she finally let her hair down and “matured.” Unfortunately, it happened a bit too late. I remember being so upset that she left the show (and I hated what they did with her when she came back in “Fury”), but I very quickly fell in love with Jeri Ryan. Her performance during the last 4 seasons of the show was truly something special. It’ll be great to hear you both start discussing her role on the show at some point within the next decade! 😜 Great discussion! I love hearing both of you talk about this universe, even when you go off on intentional tangents! Keep up the great work! 🙂 ~Damon
