      @@onefoot7Only a Christian could've written this. Never met an Atheist capable of taunting and musing about the painful, messy, death of a fellow human being suffering a lengthy cancer battle. For nothing but personal entertainment, or else possibly for less... to tell themselves they're leaving a great ol' zinger to mock and project moral superiority so they can pat themselves on the back and chuckle.
      Now this behavior is exclusively contained within Christians. Usually men. Usually young. Not always. But mostly younger male Christians are who spew such hatred with a ring of self-satisfaction that's appalling, inappropriate and (above all) is a behavior and a thought process and a mindset - all three - that Jesus IS ASHAMED OF AS YOU THOUGHT, THEN COCEIVED, THEN WROTE OUT, THEN POSTED PUBLICLY, THEN CHUCKLED TO YOURSELF WITH A HINT OF "GOTCHA" PRIDE... making fun of a dead man's final days and using a stab at publicizing his most private dignity as he lost his life on this Earth.
      Jesus is love and light. He teaches to love your neighbor. Love the non-believer. Witness to those unaware of the faith. Be an EXAMPLE. DO. NOT. JUDGE. Reject vanity. Suppress pride. Be slow to anger. Educate yourself and teach. Be generous. Uplift your fellow man. Don't quarrel. Live as Jesus lived. Remember that above all else, Jesus was first a SERVANT. Humility. Grace. Forgiveness. Inclusion. Community. Helping fellow human beings, ESPECIALLY when they can do nothing for you in return.
      How I know this is a purely Christian kind of comment? Only a Christian mind would say this WITH the element of self-satisfied "haha you lose, nah-nah nah nah-nah". Its Sadistic. Unique to Christian. (A minority, FOR 100% SURE. But, just Christians do this, in my experience.)
      *MY EXPERIENCE:
      - in my 42 years on Earth, 15 years a Christian and 13 years an Atheist. The first 14 years of my life I was a disinterested child -

      Me too, I would love to have asked him why we should suspect never mind expect as thinking animals why chemicals acting on chemicals should produce anything resembling proper logical inference never mind anything resembling truth and why there should be any evidence for such and also what the evidence was for such and what it " looked like". I can only guess his response would mirror that one offered to Douglas Wilson during their encounter on the documentary " Collision" in 2009 when Wilson asked repeatedly " by what standard Christopher". Hitchens replied " ehhhhhh, ehhh, eh, eh, human solidarity.

      N00bcrunch3r I would agreed. I'm a biochemistry undergraduate student and always have suffered of the question of god. It was not until I ran into Richard Dawkins which the argument against god solidify and cause of Christopher Hitchens, politicizes. Where Dawkins provided the crude evidence, it was Hitchens which used it tirelessly to cripple superstition. His movement continues with his Dennet, Krauss and Dawkins. Once I have able to establish my ethos as a scientist I'd like to also pick up where they leave the off.

    • @N00bcrunch3r
      @N00bcrunch3r 9 років тому +1

      Indeed! New Atheism really lost its charisma when Hitchens passed away. Dawkins can debate really well, but he allows himself to get put on the defensive way too often and rarely actually attacks his opposition.

    This is a late late late time to say this, cause I currently fell in love with his way of arguments and his arguments in general. I had just learned about Christopher Hitchens, I have been readings up on him and watching all his videos. Then later learned that he died several days later. I was amazed such a great thinker, of our time had passed away. I used to be Muslim my self, however after discovering him and his colleges, such as Dawkins and many others. Reading up on them and hearing what they have to say, I choose to become and Atheist. This was not a choice made overnight, I had several years building up to it, and hearing him I was so glad that there were other people not afraid to think like me, not only that but to have the guts that I never had, to come out and say bullshit to those who deserve to hear them. All I can say is, Thank You so much. For letting me know I am not alone.

      intelligent and educated and very hated by the people who's minds are
      clouded or washed away by religion because they don't have a single
      argument that is any good against a bright mind who tells it as it is.
      It's really hard to argue when all you got in your hand is mumbo-jumbo,
      isn't it. And to loose an argument EVERY time can't feel good, they
      hate him even now he's head... And when your god, according to the
      manuals, bible or so, is a massmurdere who stood for killing 2.200.000
      men, women and innocent children, then it gets hard to defend what you
      are thinking, saying and doing. Not to mention the bible's
      contradictions, talking donkeys, general nonsens and a god that can
      order you to lie on your side side for 190 days and eat your own shit,
      baked. Mate! That's not a club I wanna be a member of !!!

    Farewell to a great man, we will miss him. He saw the flaws in the Religious teachings and in the Bible. And he let the world know about these flaws. Now we must rethink the teachings in that Bible. We now know that Christ didn’t document his teachings, his Apostles were illiterate, so the writings were done by unknown Greek and Roman writers. Can we trust these writings? Thanks Christopher Hitchens!
    It has been my experience, 60+ years, to dig deeper than the flaws, and look for a kernel of truth; the possible existence of a higher beings known as the “Spirit World”, whose nature is undetermined. Like Marie Curie’s tireless work, sorting through tons of pitchblende to isolate her discovery or the element radium.
    There is abundant proof now, that there IS a superior Intelligence, we refer to as the “Spirit World’ in the form of “Marian Apparitions. For centuries, these Apparitions were limited to one, two or three small children; and it was easy for the skeptics to dismiss these as “delusions” or “hallucinations” and not real. However, since 1968, Apparitions have been occurring in many countries (See Egypt Apparitions), and spreading rapidly. Now everyone in the vicinity can see the Apparitions and photograph them; Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Agnostics - everyone. If these Apparitions continue spreading, we may all get a chance to observe one. So, the Atheist/Skeptic will go the way of the Dodo Bird and the Dinosaurs! jdh

    So thankful for people like him, and thankful for him in particular. He shows you don't have to face your life and knowledge that you will die, with some fantasy to make you feel better. You can face it rooted in reality and humility. Encouragement for yourself and others. He didn't deserve to suffer but he did so with the knowledge that this was a part of his life. So grateful for him.

    It's so frustrating when a religious person says something happened to someone because of sin, how do they know that? They don't, even if god exists and their text of choice were true they still wouldn't know such a thing. I debated with the westborow baptist protestors on this when they were in Tulsa and saying a pastor here died in a plane crash because he supported homosexual marriage, I asked how they knew such a thing and they literally couldn't answer, not only that but when Jesus was asked this question in the bible about a tower that fell and killed someone, he said it wasn't because of sin, so anyone claiming such a thing is doubly incorrect even by their own text.

    • @95TurboSol
      @95TurboSol 9 років тому +1

      MisterProdigy89 True and even babies die of diseases, it's one of those things that there is no way they know such a thing, even if some people were killed because of sinful behavior we simply couldn't distinguish who was and wasn't killed because of that behavior, they are using it as a tool to scare people. It's extremely frustrating when a pastor dies of some disease they say "it's the devil attacking" , then when someone they disagree with dies of the same thing it's God that killed them because of sin, they confuse correlation with causation, terrible people live long lives all the time, why don't they ever look at that fact?

    • @95TurboSol
      @95TurboSol 9 років тому

      MisterProdigy89 Yeah great points, I agree, when people (all do this but especially religious ones) run into something unexplained it's very typical to just make something up with little or no argument or evidence for it. The only caveat I would hold would be the empirical equivalence of what happens in nature being intended to have happened that way or just non directed brute fact, in other words if some consciousness or super intelligence grounds reality then it would be trivially easy to design it so the dominos fall a certain way (IE certain people die at certain times etc), that said I fall back on my first issue that nobody could know what intentions were behind such things, so they really are just pulling stuff out of their rear.

    • @JohnInTheShelter
      @JohnInTheShelter 9 років тому

      95TurboSol It's indeed frustrating, but IMHO it's just as wrong to make rash statements like some folks do about religious folks (you haven't done that). Those of us who do not believe have to be careful of not indulging in the habit of thinking we know it all, as in, "Such and such proves there is no god." Not about being ashamed or self-censoring one's atheism, in my case, but not thinking our view is anything but our own valid view of reality. The faithful are not expected to believe in science, for example, because if there was evidence of their god's existence, there'd be no need for faith. My point in bringing this up in reply to your post is that as frustrating as it is to deal with those who believe, in my experience it shouldn't lead one to thinking one can debate folks like the westboro bunch--such an experience can have no positive end when both parties have completely different goals and standards. Best to you, JSW

    • @95TurboSol
      @95TurboSol 9 років тому +1

      JohnStephenWalsh Yeah I can definitely appreciate that concern, you might be surprised to find out I believe in God, and even find arguments for Jesus pretty decent, my problem is with knowledge, the way I see it is, there are some things we are justified in believing and some things we don't have justification for (blind faith), the things people claim to have knowledge about yet have no justification for I criticize, and even some things people will provide some reasons for believing are just so weak or unclear or have too many other possibilities for explaining it that the one reason they came up with from their own worldview or experience just isn't enough for any level of confidence when you understand how little we know overall, especially when they act like they are positive about it! I take a very humble view about my knowledge, even views I hold that may be considered "justified" could be wrong in light of new evidence, so I don't act like I'm certain about things I'm not certain of. Best to you as well, John, take care.

    • @JohnInTheShelter
      @JohnInTheShelter 9 років тому +1

      That's exactly how I see things--that we humans know SO little of what there is to know, and we should all be questioning our beliefs daily as new information about the universe--and in a much simpler sense, as we learn about folks around us--comes in. Best, John

      The phrase dormit in pace (English: "he sleeps in peace") was found in the catacombs of the early Christians and indicated that "they died in the peace of the Church, that is, united in Christ."[1][2][3] The acronym R.I.P., meaning "rest in peace", continues to be engraved on the gravestones of Christians from several denominations,[4] especially the Catholic Church, the Lutheran Church and the Anglican Church.[5]
      In burial services of the Catholic Church according to the Tridentine Rite, which include the Requiem Mass, the phrase appears several times.[6]
      To satisfy a vogue for rhyming couplets on tombstones, the phrase has been parsed ungrammatically as:[7]
      “ Requiesce
      cat in pace ”
      This verse has been found inscribed in Hebrew on gravestones dating from the 1st century BC, in the graveyard of Bet Shearim. It speaks of the righteous person who died because he could not stand the evil surrounding him. A recapture of these words, read as "come and rest in peace," has been transferred to the ancient Talmudic prayers, in a mixture of Hebrew and Aramaic of the 3rd century AD. It is used to this day in traditional Jewish ceremonies.[8]

    what's great about Hitchens is that his demeanor and his objectivity doesn't waiver even in the face of his own death. he's just as straight-forward, candid, and humorous about the subject as he is about everything else he's ever encountered. he could have been melodramatic or long-winded or pity-seeking and he never was. whatever point of view you hold, we should only hope for more people who live and think like he did.

He speaks truth, unlike religion and religious people. He went out like a champ! No horrible suffering, no lengthy drawn out battle, he was smooth. I'm impressed. I despise religion and I do not believe there is a God (not the one you hear about at church) controlling all of us just waiting to sadistically punish us for every little thing when we die.

    His "leave the party" analogy is very individualistic. It also suggests that you leave the party to go be somewhere else - so it's not the most apt analogy. The truth is that the only place to be is at the party, and when you die you cease to exist - but people (and animals) keep being born at the party, and so If we cease to exist after death, then the experience of an organism born, (somewhere in the universe) after you've ceased to exist, will be the experience that comes after you're gone. You'll no longer be around anymore to stop that from being the case.
    So there's nowhere else to be. Only experience is experienced. If it's not your experience that's the experience, then it's a new organism that has the experience that will come after your's has ended.

But an operative term for these "new genes" you speak of that might shed some light is transposons - try reading up on those. Also, realize that NEW genes does NOT mean genes of a different species (like your two dogs mating eventually making a cat)
    Some viruses get new genes via taking in extra-chromosomal DNA, although viruses arent considered living organisms.

    how utterly sick that one who calls him/herself a Christian would get down on their knees and pray that this man suffer a horrendous death. It only makes it more understandable how Nazi death camps, genocide, Islamic terrorism etc... can so easily happen and exist in such abundance. Vile, horrible people exist and in great numbers it seems. If you were a truly caring person who believes in the words of jesus Christ you would be praying for his health to return and if nothing else that he have a great afterlife if one does exist. If god exists then he most certainly wants us to use our brains that he gave us and thus could not blame mr hitchens for his lack of beliefe based on the evidence.

    sure, religion is a tool of control by the state and as a weapon of authority for the oligarchy but it can also be a tool of resistance for the poor and when it does it is then that the forces of power start to vilify religion and that is exactly what is happening today and what hitchens was doing!
    Humanity is driven far more by survival than by religion! The religious farmer prays for rain after doing his part of the deal and is patient but only when the drought keeps coming year after year, it is the hunger that makes him snap and lose his mind.
