I can’t really speak on your personal feelings and experiences, but I don’t think the league’s ratings going down actually means anything. The NBA is a league adored mostly by young people. With the current state of the economy and with old traditional tv being so expensive and infrequently paid for by young people we have seen a dramatic rise in streaming for watching games. Then when you factor in local blackouts and the price of streaming legally, you realize just how overly expensive it is. Young adults not earning enough money who are being price gauged with rent, car payments, health insurance, a phone bill, student loans, and potentially a child don’t want to spend an extra $20 dollars A MONTH just to watch their local Lakers play when they are able to just stream the game for free illegally (being an LA native Laker fan is crazy expensive). Even filthy rich people illegally stream games (I am sure you have seen the famous picture of LeBron doing so). I think people pointing to 3-point shooting or the long season are missing the actual problem.
Kinda hilarious that even UA-camrs aren't considering the fact that 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck as a reason for declining viewership numbers. What normal person can still afford cable? For the price of basically every other streaming service combined, you can have sports, news coverage that's available on UA-cam, and I guess reruns of Ridiculousness. Like, bro, I've got a bridge to sell you.
That doesn’t explain the drastic decline YoY. It’s not like cable prices suddenly skyrocketed over the summer. You would see a steady decline if cable/streaming costs were a factor in less viewership
@MyChannel-w7u That does explain drastic decline. I love to watch Sacramento Kings, Hornets, Seahawks, Chiefs, random college basketball games, UFC, Tennis TV and Netflix/Prime/Disney+ for various things. If I had to pay legally then I have to pay some min. $500 per month. Overdose of streaming has ruined the way we consume entertainment. Of course, I don't pay that much for everything and stream NBA games illlegally. There's millions of nba fans who watch illegally
@@baconeggcheesepodcast9390 I like to watch games but I cut cable and I'm not paying for another streaming subscription when I can just watch it for free with a little delay and a good ad blocker
The TNT viewership decline I think may be in part due to it being the last year and people checking out. I think NBC being a more recognizable channel will help boost viewership. As far as the repetitive "shoots 3s and layups/dunks only" style, I think it'll be some time before teams start to see that those who can employ the strategy successfully (Celtics) are themselves the anomaly and is not something achieved by everyone. As far as the sitting out games and "checking out both figuratively and literally," again I think it will take some time before teams start seeing that, ever since that attitude has started to become the norm, absolutely no time who employed that strategy has won or even made the finals. There's a bit of medical data that I think needs to be more promoted that exposing your body to intense physical activity, then stopping, then starting again, then stopping is more of a risk than consistent regular exposure to physical activity.
I can’t tell which channel of yours I like better, Bulls Central or this one. I have been with Bulls Central since the beginning and I’m a Bulls fan so I should say that one, but I love all the content on this one too.
the logic is so simple. Generally, older ppl watch nba on tv, younger ppl watch nba on streams. More and more older ppl have quit watching, therefore the viewership decline. But more younger generation watchingit doesn't reflect on viewership.
Here’s a thought to bring some excitement back to the NBA: What if we shortened the regular season to 50-60 games so every matchup counts, then expanded the playoffs to the top 20 teams? Imagine the early rounds as best-of-5-each game would feel like a must-win, keeping the intensity high and fans on the edge of their seats. Then, as we get to the Top 10, Final Four, and Finals, switch to best-of-7 for those epic battles we all love. It’d give us the drama, the upsets, and the big moments that make the NBA special while keeping fans engaged all season long.
You kind of hit all of the main reasons why a lot of fans have turned away from the NBA. While I do think the changes play a role in it, it's probably the extent to which the changes have occurred that is the issue. 3pt shooting would not be as frequent if it was used more sparingly, thus teams would have different play styles. Load management would be less problematic if it was used when it actually made sense. A lot of players would be more available if they played through minor injuries or take better care of themselves (I'msure they do, but there's always room to grow). Player movement could be limited to some degree. All-Star weekend could involve less spectacle and more substance. The list goes on.
It’s not how they are playing or the style which is they play. Most people aren’t watching because the NBA has no true superstar besides LeBron and he is older. There is no new face of the league. The guys coming up aren’t as exciting to watch. They are all messing key elements. Ant is a great basketball player but not a killer. Luka is a great at offense but not defense. Wemby is just too young and not ready for that spotlight. There is no one of a kind player who is standing out. We have a lot of young players but no young stars yet. Also side note but the new TV deal made it harder to watch games because you need League pass or a set type of cable provider.

these issues have been prevalent for years. this year the ratings declined.

Nba needs to change rules. Rules are too tilted to a offense side. Scoring 20 ppg is not a achievement anymore, for example!
I think illegal steams have something to do with that but not by much

Too many injuries already man
You’re right
I litearlly can not watch games in chicago :( i can't see my team, im a stat of why it's declining viewership, I just cannot access it
While I hear you on that, the ratings actually refer to the national TV broadcasts
A lack of viewership is also no Bulls on tv 😂. Jk jk

Man, I thought I was crazy I honestly feel the same way. Doesn't help that I can't watch my damn Bulls games on UA-cam TV
Right?
Idk whose idea that was. Why would you promote the hell out of that service for watching NBA games only to take it away the next season smh
preach
Isn't the decline in ratings also related to the ever increasing cost of getting access to watching the games?
Pay some of the nba salaries to fans
I knew that Hield was golden 😊
With all due respect, this 5:19 is nonsense.
You think the game is played exactly the same way it is today from what it was 10 years ago?

Well, let's be honest: LeBron has not helped the ratings at all. He is a huge reason why the NBA has declined in popularity if we're being honest.
