I learned the hard way in becoming an Owner operator, but I had to do a lot of research to change it., And now I see why a lot of Owner operator had gone out of business.
Well now days I love my indepence of been an Owner operator. How to charge for a load, fuel surcharge rates, operations cost, D.O.T. regulations, truck maintenance and basic truck repairs.

Trucking is a skill AND a business. I have known many great truck drivers who failed at trucking business. Good cooks don't always make good restaurant owners. If you want to be an owner operate who is successful and profitable....learn business as well as driving. A single truck business is no different from a Corporation ..fixed expense, profit margins, op costs all the same worries. But if you nail it...its wonderful!!

In this episode I've learned that it's all about controlling all your loads, the big loads and the smaller loads too. I still have a hard time controlling my arrival times, but my load always arrives!

Wonderful video, thanks very much! Many years ago, I lost everything and couldn't feed my own wife and our little baby and it was incredibly frightening. Our situation changed as soon as I started using my "crazy gratitude experiment" (search for it on UA-cam). After only 3 days I started experiencing amazing synchronicities that even effect me to this very day. Everything changed when I changed my dominant thoughts and feelings. I later went on a bestselling author and a very successful entrepreneur. It was truly painful experience, but I'm deeply grateful for learning just how powerful our minds are and that we really can change any difficulty.

the world of O/O aint what it used to be. the cost of everything has skyrocketed along with government intent on regulating us and taxing us clean off the road. God Bless all the truckers out there trying to make a dollar to feed the families. Keep the hammer down and may god be with you

I operate out of Phoenix Az home office. I enjoy trucking and would not quit, its profitable and rewarding and best of all expandable with the times/economy. Something brick based business is not. Its frustrating dealing with license/regs/IFTA/DOT etc.. but even though I bitch about it...its still worth it and rewarding. I also work with Owner Operator Associations to help resolve some of these issues. Trucking is great. Good Luck and thanks for your service. Semper Fi!

Run is right. If you are thinking of driving for a living research these acronyms. Eobr, csa, fmcsa, carb, and ooida. Otr drivers are not unionized and can not unionize. Each carrier company operates differently. However, the carriers have on thing in common, when push comes to shove the driver loses always. Never lease op. there is no lease op available that offers you better deal than a company driver. When you make enough as company and you saved 30-50 grand then buy your truck used. Then yo

I just love how everyone makes it out to be some glorious job when it isn't. Every company out there promises you the world to get you sucked in and then hands you a bucket of shit instead. Twenty plus years of it, my bucket is full and I'm still dreaming about all the promises I never received.

If you are thinking in becoming an Owner Operator, first of all you have to understand your operation cost, States and Cities where the load is going to be delivered to all that knowledge will help on how to charge for the line haul. There are dry Cities and States, when I said dry that means that there's no loads out that City or State,,,, ANY HELP? Reply back to me for more advice.

Cont-- then you can lease yourself to a carrier or get your own authority. While company driving learn lanes and rates and how to figure a 5-6 day work week. Being a truck driver is a lot more than driving. 70 hours can be spent driving a week, add another 20 for all the other bullshit we have to do and then it's close to the truth. Keep in mind. Avg driver bring home $550 a week.

The problem is that in USA(and Canada where I live) is that we have been duped by the ultra-rich that we can generate wealth through work. In the 21st this is completely impossible as the ultra-rich have gained total control of USA and Canada(and many other countries), the working class is merely labour for the elites, we are not allowed to have real wealth.
Wealth should come before work, this way we can choose what our work will be(and also our leisure)....

I own and operate trucks. Its a business, just like a resturant/parts store/clothing store etc. except by office rolls. I have fixed expense, non fixed expense and emergency expenses, payroll etc. But what I have that most business dont is over stringent government regulation. I have to deal with DOT, state, county and city enforcementand the tax man like a gauntlet. They dictate how long I work, when I work, where I work and how I work. They all want to profit off of me.

It should say "Starting a trucking business ...........DONT!"
now a days you can barely find customers to give you enough work to survive... then IF you do get customers they dont pay on time ....and the ones that do pay on time want a discount on top of the reduced price you gave them to get the job to begin with.......SMH.... Im 24 and been have had my trucking business for 3 years now and it has been a COMPLETE STRUGGLE....to conclude; You need money to start and keep a successful

Somehow .. can't build this attachment to something "I do not own" ..
"dry cities" .. no loads out .. ehh .. yeahh .. sometimes you need to get out of Phoenix empty .. or haul bottled water form FL just for some shitty "diesel money" ... Wonder if you had compiled any "MUST KNOWN MANUAL" for a guys like me. Would highly appreciate any more insight you may share

The ideal is that your work leads to wealth not merely subsistence level living. Also, every citizen has the right to a wealth endowment, be it through inheritance or merely because they have the full right to share in the wealth of the land.
Communism does not address the issue of wealth for all citizens merely work for all citizens which is a big difference.

oh yes the 90's. things are changing. if it isn't government regulation, it's trucking companies with stupid policies. sending you down 2 lane secondary highways to save 5 miles on a 800 mile run. and yelling at you for trying to drive around a traffic jam because you went a couple extra miles. dictating when and where you buy your fuel because they can save a couple bucks by buying it from a particular place. making you sleep in a 120 degree truck cuz they won't let you idle.....sigh*
