      That sound created is largely due to
      spinning @ high rpm, or large diameter/low pitch prop, or both?? Reason asking is having the Taft Yak 11 version, but having the lower KV motor in it, and wanting having similar sound like this...

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 роки тому

      It’s from the prop and motor combo and it spinning at higher rpm’s. Maybe grab the prop and motor from HK and drop that in there?

    • @MLOO123
      @MLOO123 2 роки тому

      @@Thercgeek I thought can cheat by changing lower pitch prop to get some sound without changing motor and larger esc...😂

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 роки тому +1

      You can by going to a smaller prop. There will be a balance you’ll need to find between the diameter and the pitch to get the rpm’s up to where it needs to be. Just be aware that as the diameter decreases, you’ll generally want to increase the pitch to make up for the lost thrust and performance. So, you’ll have to experiment with different combinations.

    a minute into the video I started thinking: I wonder what Chris is going to do to this one? since im on a Reno Air Racer kick right now, I had to check out Checkmate. She's polished metal! Oof Dah! How Ya gonna do that trick? I have a whole fleet of 1100mm racers. Dago Red, VooDoo, Critical Mass, Galloping Ghost (no Strega yet) . That Chrome Yak is a fine looking bird.

      Well, I bought some paint in going to try on it, so we’ll see how it comes out. Plan is to fill the panel lines and smooth it out some, but not go too crazy with it. Hopefully it’ll look pretty good. 😊

    Hi Chris…another great video. I have a technical question not necessarily related to this plane. Is it always preferable to check the CG with the gear down? Thanks

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 роки тому

      Thanks! On the cg, it makes the most sense to me to cg in the most critical config to ensure safe control which would be takeoff and landing (gear down). That is my default for checking. That said, some manufacturers may recommend cg with the gear up (though I don’t see that very often), but the hope would be that they’ve accounted for the cg shift that can occur with retracting the gear on some aircraft.

    I love the sound! I have a flightline 1600mm spitfire with a 16 x 10 4 blade with a 390kv motor. All stock. Any idea how I can get it to sound like this?

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 роки тому

      Well, it has to do with the 2 blade prop and the higher RPM it's spinning. To get that from the Spitfire, you'd probably have to swap to a higher Kv motor and a smaller 2 blade propeller.

    • @scottbusby12

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 роки тому +1

      @Jonathan-vo1vt 2 роки тому

      @@Thercgeek Cool! Just wondering, since I'm considering this plane (it's one of the best sounding prop planes I've come across!), which ESC did you use? I'm a Spektrum guy and would probably end up doing the same as you. Also, in your experience, do you know of other prop planes of a similar size which sound as good as this or better?

  • @leecollins9112

    Hi I'm putting a lot of detail on FMS Pitts V2 about same cost as kit but be fun l. There are two unknown factors the first one molotow chrome I know ok on plastic but have you tried it on epo foam?. I like to put it on grills and rivet details if not used it on models before I'm thinking trying on package foam the model comes in first as it's not so strong. Also Pledge floor Polish I want to use that to make pitts have gloss look on paint work and cockpit screen will Pledge turn yellow in time or is it ok to use. Cheers

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 роки тому +1

      I’m not familiar what that material. That said, epo foam is extremely resilient to solvents, so I’d be surprised if it didn’t work. Do be aware that the packaging foam is eps foam, not epo, so it will likely react if there are heavy solvents involved.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 роки тому +1

      Well, it’s propped for 6s, so you’d probably want to look at using a more appropriate prop for 4s. Otherwise, performance will probably be pretty lackluster.
