I worked in the medical industry for many years and yes if the breath sounds on each side aren't equal it's pretty easy to tell. Even if it's a small puncture looking at the mechanism of injury and seeing multiple injured ribs on the same side you could make a pretty accurate guess a lung injury is present. Even with the bleeding you could see in that second quarter he was pale, shaking at the stoppage obviously in a medical state of shock. 1000 percent he should have been straight to hospital, if he said no or the coaches said no the doctor should have overruled them. Joey acts like it's a joint decision, no it's not if the doctor thinks they shouldn't go back on they can 100 percent refuse to give the player their clearance, which would have huge insurance issues for the AFL and club if they were sent back on against medical advice.@@joshuasadler9243
There is no excuse for Petracca not being sent to hospital straight away, he could have died on the field. I cannot understand why people are making this piss weak excuse for those involved that “it’s a tough decision to make, it’s his choice.” Bullshit, the doctor is a medically trained professional whose job is to protect the players from themselves. There’s only 2 possible scenarios in this extreme case. Either the doctor did run the appropriate tests and assessments, but is borderline incompetent somehow missing all the warning signs. Or the doctor did no such tests and simply went off the word of the player and his own assumptions about an injury. Any trained medical professional let alone a sports doctor would know the location of the spleen and its sensitivity to physical blows. It is simply inexcusable that he was allowed to play on and the league is incredibly lucky this didn’t turn out worse.
