  • The Lord Of The Rings original team including Pam Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis and the rest of the WETA family are coming together again to bring us 'The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt for Gollum' due out 2026. New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers have partnered to bring us this new adventure into The Lord Of The Rings mythology. Warner Brothers involvement does have some cautiously optimistic being that they were involved with the making of 'The Hobbit' which wasnt as adored by fans the way they were with the first trilogy.
A separate, animated Middle-earth movie, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” is due on Dec. 13 via Warner Bros. and director Kenji Kamiyama. That movie is set 200 years before the events of “The Hobbit.”
Warner Bros. first announced in February 2023 that then-newly installed studio leaders Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy had brokered a deal to make “multiple” films based on the beloved J.R.R. Tolkien books. The projects will be developed through WB label New Line Cinema. Freemode, a division of Embracer Group, made the adaptive rights deal for books including “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” under a venture named Middle-earth Enterprises.
I am very cautiously optimistic that this turns out well but excited none the less! What do you think? Are you excited for these new movies? Let me know what you think!

I was wondering why amazon is having a new LotR MMORPG in the making, now all makes sense. Looking forward for both game as well as movie 👍

Hmm, I have seen a new LotR is due next year and the trailer has American accents and weird CGI (so much so that if it were April 1st I would be suspicious) No thanks to that!
Peter Jackson you would think would do sonething good - BUT I intensely disliked The Hobbit trilogy. Just full of nonsense and no adherence to canon, whereas LotR trilogy did largely adhere at least as far as time and medium allowed
    But The Search For Gollum?
Maybe it is from The Histories of Middle Earth (of 1200 pages, 15 (fifteen) are about Gollum) but it certainly isn't in LotR or in The Silmarillion, both of which I read every 18 months or so.
So it looks like another I'll miss out thanks.
Peter Jackson has rights to The Silmarillion whereas Amazon doesn't, so I'd rather await a trilogy (or more) of The Silmarillion from Jackson - if he goes back to canon and not some screenwriter's made-up story like The Hobbit.
Have you heard the BBC audio serialisation of LotR? That was superb.

I actually have that BBC one you just mentioned! I have been a fan of Tolkien ever since I was a child and loved the trilogy (The extended version not so much the theatrical but after you have been spoiled with the extended version its hard to watch the theatrical version) I wasnt so much of a fan of The Hobbit, I thought it had potential at first but soon realized it was going to be stretched and filled with stuff that never happened with characters that never existed... I only recall the mention of Gandalf and Strider looking for him but it never goes anywhere as far as I can recall but I have to admit I havent read every little bit of the appendices'. I have several versions (hard cover, paperback and stylized) of the Silmarillion and several Tolkien encyclopedias and I still cant recall any actual story of the adventure of finding Gollum it basically just mentions they tried to track him down but couldnt find him.. In the extended versions its mentioned real quick when they show him getting tortured real quick... I think they are doing this because it allows them a little more freedom with the story telling and finding a way to connect them all maybe... I'm trying to be optimistic but with extra caution
I wish they would tell some of the stories out of The Silmarillion or I would like to see that made into a trilogy or maybe even a double trilogy because its a lot to take in so there is a lot of story to show and tell....

Yes I have several editions of all of them. It's a while since I read the Gollum section of The Histories but I can tell you right now that 15 pages does not a 3 hour movie make, let alone 2 movies.
Maybe I'll get to re-reading that section tomorrow (my time).
I found that audio version enthralling. Yes I was already a fan but it really came to life .
Robert Stephens was an inspired (though controversial at the time) choice and Michael Hordern can do no wrong for me.
      Happy days those.
