I was fortunate enough to be there. I watched all the practices, and the races. Garry was on the cover of the program that round. I was fortunate enough to be staying in a small guesthouse with two of the 250 teams. I met Anthony West, Abe and had dinner right next to Ron Haslam and his wife. I talked to them a bit, and they were supporting Leon with his first 125 ride with ItaliaJet. The manager for Team Advance Shell Honda gave me a pit pass, I met all the guys/racers at the track, and was even in the garage during the 250 race. What a great experience! The next year I met up with a guy who I had met there, in Germany and we drove to Assen, Holland to catch the Dutch TT. After the race, someone cut the fence, we ran across the infield, and I got showered with Champagne from Valentino Rossi, the winner, above me on the podium.
Who else remember 2000, where Rossi used that year to find his limit for the years to come. Lots of crashes, but well worth in order to achieve the title in 2001 and onwards.

Yeah traction control is ridiculous. It just makes vehicles like Motor Bikes have too much control. I'm still trying to find the best MotoGP season too. LoL
If memory serves me right Rossi said Garry was one of the best riders he ever raced. Pure talent & his ability to drift a 500cc bike into corners was just amazing to watch! I personally agree, Garry was a pleasure to watch ride!!!

The good old days when traction control was your right wrist wheelie control was your back brake and the green stuff on the other side of the rumble strip was grass and touching it was penalty enough .
I don't think that a season will be possible until August. Then we will always have to have 3 GP weekends in a row and extend the season until December, maybe then 13 GP's are possible
not sure Kyalami is up to the standard required for MotoGP which is why Phakisa was built....then MotoGP changed the rules and Phakisa become not good enough either

It is true that MotoGP is not as attractive as before, now it relies on electronics, not skills. But remembering the past, Rossi with his win and his celebrations really made MotoGP interesting to watch every race. At the start, VR46 will definitely go down a few positions and when a few laps ends, then VR46 shows racing skills until VR46 wins. That's what makes MotoGP interesting to watch. So what about now? mm93 only thinks of winning, starting at pole, immediately away from the opponent. Yes, the motor is very fast, but it makes racing not fun. Although mm93 beats the VR46 world champion record, but it won't be as good as VR46, the legend of MotoGP race (and don't forget, the dirty mm93 race that made VR46 fail to win and make JL99 world champion) everyone knew
id like to see one of these insane machines fitted with todays suspension and more importantly todays traction control and riding aids software.... im thinkin the old smokey two smokes wouldnt be embarassed by todays bikes at all pretty sure itd be a nasty little grudge race....

I wish Motogp would come back to South Africa. We have another beautiful Race track called Kyalami in Johannesburg.
