He knew how to show off that amazing physique! Perfect blend of mass, shape, thickness, balance and symmetry, not to mention a class act and true professional
It’s crazy for just about every decade bodybuilding had that one guy that dominated: 60s- Sergio 70s- Arnold 80s- Lee 90s- Dorian 2000s- Ronnie 2010s- Phil 2020s might be the first time we don’t have that guy.
@@michaelmillar7061 I feel like he’s going to have his hands full with a few guys that might prevent that. Hadi, Samson and Walker possibly even Neckzilla if he really gets his package together. Honestly wouldn’t even be talking about Derek if it wasn’t for last years controversy
Lee looked totally awesome here, it is a shame such a dominant champion. Gets mentioned so little in comparison to the other great champions. Especially considering he set the record at 8.
He was a token champ. Arnold was doing movies and lee Haney just did what joe said and Weider didn't make any real money until Dorian was champ! I should now I worked there.
@@bigmac-k5t Lee didn't have the international appeal Dorian did. As far as being a token champ goes, he was a solid family man who set a good example for others to follow. Him doing what Joe told him to do and doing it as well as he did would mean he was a great employee which is what most bosses desire and that is a good thing.
@@bigmac-k5t Well, I contested a little with them in those times, and Lee was by no means a ‘token champion.’ Lee was not an actor nor did he want to act. Lee improved opening the sport of bodybuilding to many other black people to train and compete, especially without the use of steroids. There were other black competitors in the sport before Lee, but non compared to Lee in symmetric’s with size and charisma. Arnold used steroids. And Dorian had a severe arm injury, bad too, which might have cost him a movie career.
@@Cornbread-gi6kt Lee used steroids too. I was a drug enforcement agent back then and watched the first drug free Olympia, Lee and everyone else looked bad because they weren't using .
i never stated that lee, retired in fear, it was more about health, lee knew that if he pushed it more then what he already had, he would be going into unhealthy waters, dorian was pushing it, lee valued his family and his health, as you can see from time, lee, is really in good shape compared to alot of alive and dead bodybuilders
Insane. Flawless everywhere. This is the greatest bodybuilder in history if we take into account the number of sandows under his name and the convincing fashion in which Haney attained them.
lee looked good, but, mass monsters that had 50lbs on him had more depth, i am talking more in the future, but that is what is to come, lee was like the bridge between aesthetics and mass for his time, then came dillet, dorian, paux, most probaby in relation to adding gh to the mix, which alot of mass'rs had trouble dialing it in, but dorian figured it out, dillet and other still had trouble and ran into trouble, even falling into shock, ronnie even mentioned this befor, flex mentioned about how he had to go to hospital afterwards, andreas munzer died after a contest, etc
Not really. Dorian was being g dwarfed especially from the back and in the chest. He wouldn’t have beaten Lee in 1992 either. 1993 Dorian would but who’s to say Lee wouldn’t have also improved. After all, he retired at 32 yo. He could have kept going for a decade, kinda like Arnold who retired at 28 yo (the first time)

greg d, keeps bringing up that i somehow said that laney retired "in fear" i never said that, that is ridiculous, i am only stating as only a person in person, lee saw something
He beat Dorian cleanly in this contest. Don't push the BS that he retired out of fear. Lee won eight in a row, setting a record that hasn't been broken, and decided to move on to the next phase of life. Simple as that.
@@tylerclarkson5660 By "not an unknown comment" you mean an idea that has popped up before in comment sections like this. Could Dorian have beaten him going forward? Possibly, but Haney was only 31 and had the frame to pack on more size as well. He may not have wanted to take his body in the direction he saw the sport going, but that doesn't mean he was afraid of losing to Dorian Yates. Did Dorian retire after 97 because he was afraid of Nasser and Ronnie? Did Ronnie retire because he was afraid of Phil? No in either cases. Like Haney, they reached the point where they felt they had nothing left to prove.
What a physique! Totally shredded, symmetry ,hard as diamond, small waist, no bubbleguts, no gyno ! That's true bodybuilding!!!
When I was 32 it was watching Haney on TV that motivated me to get in the best physical condition of my life.

His lats are insane
Legend.
Haney ,was and is a legend. What's amazing even in this kind of shape and condition, today he'd be in the classic physique category.
Lee was the greatest of all.
Greatest of them all. Things went downhill after him.

Lee Haney c'était la Ligne et symétrie.
Son dos reste unique ❤️😍👌
And all the time he was winning the Olympia, Matt Mendenhall was trying to get his pro card😢

Pure muscles, no synthol.

he woudv beating dorian in 92 also. but not 93

More pleasing to look at than many. That should be considered more. He has great proportions and symmetry. His physique flows well for his frame.
