I greatly admire his ability to look at life and to share his interpretations with us. Depression is hard. Digging yourself out of it is a life's work. Keep on with the introspection and honesty, Bruce Springsteen!
Wasn't in the best mood today. I just watched this and feel better. This happens not only with Bruce's music, but also with his interviews and life perspective. Very wise words regarding depression. This man is everything, still. Thanks Boss!

In the 70's I was a bartender In a college town in Ohio. After his show, he walked in to the Bar. So I still remember serving him a Heineken. A great moment that I still treasure and brag about.
Talking about his voice, WOW, back in the day and for years, he could wail like no one else! It always gives me goosebumps. I just woke up so still on slow mo, but listen to the end of either Jungleland or Backstreets, especially when performed live, and you hear a voice that’s unmatchable! If you don’t know it, there’s copies of those early shows you can download. Do yourself a favor, if you weren’t a fan back then and get you a couple.
Bruce has Heart. His brilliance and humanity are still pervasive. He has always embraced the humble way he grew up never forgetting the struggle of working people. Thank you Bruce, his family friends and others, including the musicians he works with. The joy he has given they music with a message
Why did he have to espouse his radical left wing BS? Why couldn’t he keep his mouth shut? I used to admire him as a poor man’s Elvis but I realize Elvis had more character not to mention talent in his pinky then Springstern will ever have if he worked at it 10 hours a day for 30 years and he STILL won’t have a sliver of elvis’ class and character as an entertainer

He truly is just a natural born storyteller. Musically but also in conversation. Everything he says captures attention, and flows like a story with a start, middle and end.
I am 59 years old , at age 52 I found out I am bi-polar type 2 with clinical depression. I was never happy, I thought happiness in others was a social construct to fight sadness, to achieve not sad - not happy just blah. My best days were blah. Now I am on meds, the mania is less sharp, I stay more in the middle between crushing depression, and manic fear. Life is good.
Live No One...reaches out to a crowd takes in their struggle loves them and gives back universal love truth faith and understanding. Bruce is truly gifted.
Imagine someone I've always love everything about especially his voice, saying he doesn't have the nicest voice. What a very humble personality you are bruce Love you more
My dad was my north star, I cared for him as he died. But I never was able to reconcile with my mom, even though I cared for her as a nurse. She was emotionally locked up. I grew up with a mother who was severely mentally ill, but I grew up to be a nurse working in mental health, I got her illness finally. And accepted it. My mom was an AXIS II PD'S, so medication does not help. My beloved father was a beautiful, poetic, depressed, Scotsman. I recognized and related to him. It took going through school to understand my AXIS II PD'S tortured French Canadian/Potowatomi mother.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I get the impression that Springsteen never really made a mark in his home country. He seems to be way more popular in Europe, Asia and South America. He was voted the most influential musician in Norway a few years back. He has done a lot of touring up here and we all love him, even the younger generation.
I think he is popular in the U.S but they struggle to separate the man and his politics...which in Europe is seen as humanitarian and admirable and in the U.S as radical . We just embrace the music and the man more.
I was fortunate enough to see Rod in ‘84 and he covered Hungry Heart. Just as he had done w/ Dylan he made the song his own. Nice to hear The Boss give him his props!
How interesting that at 9:50 he says he'll "never record definitive versions of someone else's songs; that's why I have to write." Fast forward a few years: Bruce recently released an album of cover tunes, Only The Strong Survive. Regarding it, he said, “I’d spent my working life with my voice at the service of my songs, confined by my arrangements, by my melodies, by compositions, and by my constructions,” he said. “My voice always came second, third or fourth to those elements…[On this new album], I put my own spin on the singing, and my team mastered and sonically modernized some of the most beautiful songs in the American pop songbook. I had so much fun recording this music.”
That was an insightful, intelligent interview. Utterly superb Ms. King! As Michael Schmitt has already commented I could easily watch another hour of this.
Talented humble man. The song always overrides the voice. Look at Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, the Manic street preachers lead vocalist, forgotten his name :).....None of them have brilliant voices, but the songs are great. IMHO. Everybody's got a hungry heart..........

I'm an admirer of both Gayle King and Bruce Springsteen and many other people but I keep in mind that even good people can be wrong about their opinions or assessments of others. That happens with politicians, entertainers, our parents, and even ourselves.
Was it religion and the power of guilt that caused the mental issues? I'm irish myself, and I've seen that a lot of those patterns in my own family and others.
Everything was great until we get to honorary recognition by our Presidents. When is Freedom equal to Peace? The lion to lay down with the lamb, and an understanding that our Servant is our Master? We all need each other. We all make up one body. What would we be without our right arm? Our left eye? Just the same, we're only part of a body without any one of us. As an American, I can identify with the meaning: "United we Stand"... May we all stand up with each other, even when a painful delivery could be forgiven.
I've been a Bruce Springsteen fan for over 40 years. I'm not interested in an artist's politics. That's the best way to get me to stop listening to them.
