Panel discussion
Speakers: Prof. James Young, Prof. Omer Bartov, Dariusz Popiela
Moderator: Dr. Edyta Gawron
2022 marked the 80th anniversary of “Aktion Reinhard” - the German plan to murder all the Jews of Poland living in the General Government. To mark this anniversary, Galicia Jewish Museum, the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre and the Ghetto Fighters House invites for a program titled 80 Years After “Aktion Reinhard”: The Industrial Killing of European Jewry - a series of four online lectures given by some of the most recognized scholars in this field, each one focusing on a different aspect of the Holocaust and related to this key event.
During the last event, we discussed issues related to memory.
Prof. James Young described the process of commemoration at the Concentration and Death Camps itself. Prof. Omer Bartov looked at the processes of transmission of the memory of the Holocaust in Israel. Finally, an activist Dariusz Popiela showed how small communities and nongovernmental organizations work together to bring back the memory of the Holocaust in the context of rural Poland today.
The discussion was moderated by Dr. Edyta Gawron of the Jagiellonian University.
